Good video mate.
Swap out fridge and slide ( slide is probably 30-40 kg itself ) for a fixed drawer fridge, rip out all the timber and carpet ( 50 plus kgs? ) leave the insulation bare, that's what I've done in my canopy, easy to get side tracked with trim that might look good but not required
Great stuff guys love the van. Lot of people are going the way of a lite truck. Hino. Fuso Isuzu. GVM. No problem. GCM. no problem. On my way around OZ. surprised to see lot of people upgrading to a lite truck.
We looked at them and even did some test drives etc but decided it wasn’t right for us in the long run. Perfect for our weight issues and it would of fixed all of our issues but there is also a big price tag on one, let alone the build to follow 😳
Now I’m worried after watching this, awesome insight to Van, vehicle and GCM guys, thanks heaps.
Worried about weights you mean? Don't be worried, just research lots before you make any firm choices and ask for advice from someone who knows them well. ☺️
Yeah nice, dealing with the every day legal gvm, lots of people overlook this, hit the cruise mode button on every thing you do, this is something to never be forgotten, family time, thumbs up rod storage, lithium batteries are a God send, you will love em, I've got a125amh, you will need a 200ish enerdrive dc dc is the go, up to 800 watts of solar, keep a diary, and a log book of expenses, it helps trim n hone in on maintenance and general out goings, hook up zoom for hands on live chat Q and A,
Cooking hints tips n tricks,
Nothing wrong with a muddie n a coldie, cheers, Davi b here, just subbed
Thanks mate, some good tips in there! You’ll find on our later videos we’ve just moved to lithium, so good 😍👌🏻 cheers for following our journey!
Wow how you guys have grown as in technics etc and equipments 😎👍
Well done for getting weighed, every caravan Owner in OZ should be made to do it. All light utes are just that, simply don’t have the carrying capacity as every body thinks. Isuzu N series trucks are a great alternative for towing heavy caravans and carting extra weight like water, fuel and tools. Good luck worrying about it and sorting it out. 😎
Best ever weight coverage....thanks heaps guys.
No problem Dennis! 😁
Awesome stuff guys getting those weights on the van and the car was very eye opening crazy to gear that ball weight crazy how loading them van different ways makes massive difference we are definitely having all ours done
It’s amazing how much you’ll learn from having a weigh! It’s not common knowledge hey about what’s actually involved and the changes involved...
gvm gcm guys this is why you do your maths prior to vehicle and caravan purchase, we do know this as were going to buy a trail and bt50 mazda with gvm pre rego upgrade but with the trail we were looking at enerdrive 300ah lithium to save weight as well, now tho we are going to go with 79 landcruiser with gvm upgrade as we were to close to the weights where now we have alot more to play with but i guess it comes down to $$$ too
Trust me, we did do the maths but we loved this car and wanted to make it work, it would have worked but Trails TARE weight ended up being 260kg more than what was on the brochure. Make sure you check the TARE when you get the physical van as we couldn’t compensate for that difference in weight because it was unknown at the time. Turns out this is a problem throughout the industry with most vans manufacturers. We’ve changed a lot in the van since that episode such as the 400ah gel batteries that was previously installed to a 200ah lithium with 2000w inverter and saved 100kg. If you want to, subscribe to see more, we’ve got a vehicle upgrade/build coming shortly and towing won’t be an issue! 😍 You can also check out our other video (episode 10) when we teamed up with Ezi-Weigh to explain weights, feel free to share this to help other caravanners who might get stuck short on their weights! 🤘🏻
Hi Guys, I just found your channel (late to the party I know), so I’ve started from the very beginning and will binge my way through to the present. Lots of fun viewing ahead for me 😀
Welcome aboard and thanks for being here! You'll love it and see the kids grow and us grow as RUclipsrs... I can't wait to watch it all again when were home lol 😆
Weighing your set up was really interesting. Everything has become so sophisticated now days. A lot of weight in that tool kit mate. It gives new meaning to everything but the kitchen sink. Obviously travelling with a family is more complicated than we are inclined to believe. Instead of being your home away from home, it is your home.
Now that we are changing vehicles we will have to do this all again as well! Will be interesting now we’re more knowledgeable on weights to see how we go ☺️
Loving the videos, I love that you guys are making the best out of a bad situation. Hardest thing is watching the kids not being able to use parks, pools etc due to covid. I'm glad fast forwarding till December there is some restrictions been eased off. Hope you guys had a Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you too. I see your flying through the episodes! Hope your enjoying it 😁 Cheers 🍻
Music tracks. Thank you. So smart doing the weights. Heard of some heartbreaking stories of people being over, Insurance finds out and no insurance, overweght so unroadworthy. You got rid of the toolbox. That had to hurt.
The tool box was a hard thing to leave but we’ve adapted and become pro bush mechanics now 🛠 😂
Gyday,
Jeez your lucky on the weights to be within specs . In the last few years some weigh bridges here in Vic leave the scales active so ya can just pull in check weights then keep on rolling . With a couple of kids and too much gear we had to do a post rego gvm/gcm upgrade to our ranger once we fitted tray etc (used to run with minimal gear in tub with tonneau cover and was still only just in on standard specs but toys seam to need more and more room). Water was our biggest nemesis 350litres when full. Happy travels 👍🏻
You understand our pain! Unfortunately we can’t run with full water or grey tanks otherwise we would 100% be VERY over! With a small amount of water and the caravan and car set up the way it was, we were 17 kg under… Since then we’ve done some more culling and we’ve upgraded the battery system to lithium and we’ve lost around 100kg, Chris and I just need to lose a few more kilos and then we will definitely have a great buffer zone 😂😂 thanks for tuning in 🤘🏻
Guys this is excellent!! Keep up the good footage!! 🤙🏻
Thanks guys!! 😁 🇦🇺
Very good thank you opened my eyes
Awesome that’s what we want, so good if people can learn along the way from our mistakes 🥰🙌🏻
Good stuff. We never wieghed, we did the gcm gvm upgrade post rego in Qld but it was super expensive . I don't think we could have done it at 6t, so glad we got the extra 1t. Can't believe your doing it in a manual, would love to know what fuel econ you get.
It’s tight at 6t but we’ve made it work!! Fuel economy on average is 15.1-15.5 L/100 depending on what the roads are like (hilly/dirt/hwy etc) it doesn’t take long to chew through our 70L tank though, we need a long range one next!! Thanks for following 🥰
Hey Jason, who did the gcm upgrade? I’m in the market for a vehicle & van and just can’t get what we want at 6T gcm and can’t stretch to a 200 series chopped. Need a dual cab really and don’t want a 79. If I could get a BT/Ranger or a DMax or a Rok with a gcm upgrade, I’m sorted
Love the look of your ranger. Clean and tidy. Very nice wheels, And extended tow mirrors are fantastic. Then your alloy box tops the look. Great rig, cheers todd.
Thank youuuu.... Chris is very particular with what he chooses and we both like a clean and simple but, practical car! 👌🏻
Looks like they are living the dream. I wish to be there one day.
It’s a great lifestyle, we are very lucky ☺️
love the drone shots.👍🏻
Chris is very proud of his drone shots 😍
Wish you all the best for your travel love watching your videos keep it up guys
Thanks Charlie! Another ep is coming out this afternoon 🙊
Not a Bad place having a Tully lock down for a Covid... .enjoy it to yourself as its such a busy park..
I know right! We booked this in the Easter rush initially expecting to be one of 1000 others away for Easter! 😮
Hi Great Watching, with your weight issues, you made no mention of the state of your water tanks, I think you said you had 4 * 70 ltr Tanks that,s 280 Kgs. Good idea to go Lithium Their a great weight saving,
That’s because they were empty!! We couldn’t travel with water 🤦🏼♀️ we’ve since upgraded our car and now we can take water legally 👏🏻👏🏻 we have 3x90L water and 1x90L grey water. We’ve also changed to 1x 200ah lithium battery 🥰 Thanks for getting in touch and commenting 😁
Time spent getting the weights sorted now will be worth it, In my job I have been to alot of van rollovers, and they do weigh the rigs after to see you are legal, unfortunately most are over weight.
Such a shame for owners in that scenario!
The whole ute tow rating in Aus is a joke......I knew you would be over without a GVM upgrade on the Ranger. Depending on what you want to be able to take, then 19ft van would be the limit ( depending on ball weight ) Such a shame, as you have a sweet set-up. Hope it all works out.
We’ve got plans in the making at the moment which means we will no longer have towing issues!! Super excited but hush hush for now 🤫 nothing was going to stop us exploring this bloody amazing country! 🇦🇺
well done , even with holding a Beverage
Can’t let go of the drink! 🤣
Unfortunately that’s the problem with dual cab utes, they claim to tow 3.5t but GCM kills you when u stat towing over 2.5t.
Keep up the good work guys.
I wish more people were aware when they bought their vehicles! Thanks for the comment and following our journey ❤️👍🏻
Big Oz Explorers yep the manufacturers should be held more accountable their marketing is very misleading with how they advertise being able to tow 3.5t. Gives people a false belief. Cheers
Nice love my drone rubbish at hop scotch stay safe
If you ever meet Chris on the road at least you know not to take a hop scotch bet, he’s bloody quick! 🤣
It’s surprising how easily your weight goes up! We had a major problem when we set off round Europe last year and ended up moving stuff at the side of the road. We have plenty of free weigh stations here in the UK so have no excuse. We just couldn’t get it under weight. We’re about 20kgs over all the time and we don’t have onboard water.
When you did the weighing did you fill all the water tanks? It seems that they often get forgotten about?
Keep going with the videos they’re great.
I wish we could say the same but free weigh stations are rare here, the few public ones around you have to pay for, about £16 a pop! A lot of caravanners in Australia know nothing about weights and travel oblivious with 100’s of kg’s over weight until they need to claim on insurance and can’t get a full payout due to weight, then they learn! Our caravan was a little heavier than we expected/planned so that’s why we were so close, we aren’t carrying water when we tow either, the next car will give us plenty of play room at least 👌🏻
Thanks for your support, we’ve got lots to come and look forward to sharing with you and other pommies ☺️ I (Sian) was born in the UK and love it over there, can’t wait to get back! 😍🇬🇧
Loose the rice cooker, I use a microwave one works perfect and super light and The lithium Batts will serve you well
Sian said she’d prefer to throw out half her wardrobe in equivalent weight over the rice cooker 🤣🤣 we do eat a lot of rice... we’ll have to look into what draws more power on the inverter- MWO or rice cooker 🤔
G’Day Guys, just siege question from the obvious topic of vans , trucks and Camping, I’m just wondering what you are using for your photography, video and drone. I’m assuming G PRO with a stick. And soft ware.? Cheers Jay
Hey Jay, we use 2x GoPros, the stick, our Apple Pro 11 phones and Adobe Premier Pro 😁
Thanks Guys, keep doing what you are doing, love it.
How good is talle.. I’ll be back there at Xmas.. last Xmas I was in your exact site 304.. but moving onto one of grass sites this Xmas..
It’s awesome down there! Couldn’t imagine being there when it’s packed though, would be a very different experience!
Wat sort of drone u have :) ??
We have a DJI Mavic Pro 2 drone ☺️
Haha antoniu was the same when we got our drone, big kids 😂 such a beautiful spot. Vids are getting better and better, epics shots of tally! 🙌🏼
Thanks Shani! Yeah the boys and their drones hey lol... we used a friends one many times so, getting our own was a long awaited moment! 😍 we’re sitting at the fire pit right now and it’s just amazing... Chris chopped a pallet of wood up with the hydraulic wood splitter today... loving the this next location thanks to your vid 👌🏻
Hi guys! We’ve just discovered you on RUclips and love the videos. May I ask what video editor you use? We are planing to do our big lap hopefully in the next year or so!
Hey Deb, we use Adobe premiere pro for our editing. Thanks for following! 😁
Big Oz Explorers Thank you so much for responding. What an amazing job you guys are doing! We love the way your vids are set up and how humble you are. Thanks again.
yeah, old mate on the weights is very good
We’ve got more footage coming up with Carl soon... stay tuned! 🙊
Are u going to get a bull bar and if so can u make a vidoe on it
We would love to have a bullbar with a big ol winch too, but we just can’t due to weight! 😭 our next rig will have it though... 🤫😏
Over GCM? Looks like the wife and kids will have to stay home.... lol.
If only it was that simple 😂😂
