Washing buildings I’m filthy wet through!!! Lambing begins with a bang and bobcat saves the day

- Getting the big wagon in to move the last of our own stock to carlisle, major rush as lambing kicks off early shed progress with the plinth going down for the tower and the last of the concrete work being done, cladding next. I set to cleaning the buildings and disinfecting them ready for the sheep coming in, big rush on
in 2009 i had no experience of farming or the realities that came with it. That soon changed when I met my other half Roy, I had a job as a carer and in every spare moment threw myself into farming. I had only ever driven a Nissan Micra and had experience with horses, I learnt the hard way as nobody had the time to show me and soon after arriving I found myself mothering on calves to three quarter bred limmy cows. We spent every available moment on the farm between our day jobs. Fast forward to 2016 two children later we moved into our very own farm overlooking the northern Pennines, Laitha.
we are in a transitional period at present and will finally be milking cows and making the final switch later this year, after years of planning and implementing infrastructure we will be milking 120 Jersey cows on two Lely robots. This will be a huge change and a steep learning curve

I am overjoyed to be a farmer. I feel so fortunate every day to wake up and do what I love and even better share it with the world and hope it inspires more young people from Preston to spread their wings and think outside the box the world doesn’t need more childcare workers or hairdressers it needs more farmers.

one of your best videos charlotte........farming is not all sunshine and roses and i respect the youtubers that show the good the bad and the ugly side of farming. i been watching sam shutt farming videos too and there busy calving and soon to start lambing they too are not afraid to show everything......it's the way farming is and it's good to get it out there to show those that don't know what is involved to get the food on there tables
Lambing seems to have came very quickly on you! Last year you were ahead of the game. We hope Roy realises how very lucky he has you along side him! There are wives that wouldn't know where the sheds are let alone cleaning and feeding stock.

Hell girl!! You are even more of a grafter than I thought, based on this post! Woolly backs looking good, ours are a week away yet but they will be at the back of the ditch because we have nowhere dry enough to let cattle out and the sheep do less harm, yard full of calves as we are locked up and can’t sell anything ( tb) luckily we had a very poor scan lots of singles, some twins and only a few triplets ( who are in at least) but not many empty at that. Spent the evening sorting out single pens in the straw shed, not ideal but needs must! Regards from Ireland

Hi Charlotte, what's going on! It's cattle out, clean the shed and then put the sheep in. You and Roy were under the pump to beat the rain and looks like you just made it. You should know you can't rely on sheep to lamb when you want them to, they will have them early or late to please themselves. The shed is ready for the sheep, so you and Roy are now on lamb watch night and day. Good luck and I hope it all goes well. Looking forward to the next episode at your life on the farm.
