in 2009 i had no experience of farming or the realities that came with it. That soon changed when I met my other half Roy, I had a job as a carer and in every spare moment threw myself into farming. I had only ever driven a Nissan Micra and had experience with horses, I learnt the hard way as nobody had the time to show me and soon after arriving I found myself mothering on calves to three quarter bred limmy cows. We spent every available moment on the farm between our day jobs. Fast forward to 2016 two children later we moved into our very own farm overlooking the northern Pennines, Laitha.
we are in a transitional period at present and will finally be milking cows and making the final switch later this year, after years of planning and implementing infrastructure we will be milking 120 Jersey cows on two Lely robots. This will be a huge change and a steep learning curve
I will be taking you all along for the ride so hit that subscribe button and see you every other day for farming vlogs.
I am overjoyed to be a farmer. I feel so fortunate every day to wake up and do what I love and even better share it with the world and hope it inspires more young people from Preston to spread their wings and think outside the box the world doesn’t need more childcare workers or hairdressers it needs more farmers.

Well said Charlotte 👏 I'm with you all the way . Television companies should not be allowed to get away with spreading bullsh#t , it is disgusting that farmers work their socks off 24/7 and get lies broadcast about their industry! Keep up the great work you do and keep the videos coming !! Respect 😊
Not seen the TV programme so I can't comment. Cracking video
well said i totally agree with you tv companies should not be allowed to spread rubbish and lies ❤️👍😊😊😊😊😊😊
Keep the videos coming Charlotte, to much bad press for British farmers from people who have never worked or even ben on a farm, looking forwards to your new dairy enterprise 🐄🐄🚜
Thanks Alan it’s getting exciting cows are sorted robots are here Gary is coming in January to kit the shed out
You are a independent farmer. The programme gave so much manure that you would be able to grow crops, On those mountains you run your sheep on😊😊😊😊
Oh they don’t even know the meaning of the words marginal land, we should be growing carrots and lettuce up the top of the fells like stainmore 😳😳😳😳
@@charlotteashleyfarm Thank you for the good giggle

Love that Owl, they always look grumpy, bit like me! Great video as ever, i guess old remidies still work on the poor sheep.
Oh my god Charlotte ❤❤❤
Interesting about using soap that's something new we use castor oil always seems to work .the owl is cool
It worked tup❤❤
big Roy is bang on with the poultice i was always told to use brown sugar but it works don't dismiss old farmers and some of there remedies you could learn a lot
You never know with the old remedies but always worth a go. Result!!!!!! ( until it comes back 🤣🤣)
Ahh yes there is that 😂😂
The principle of the poultice is sound Carbolic is a disinfectant, Sugar helps draw out and promotes healing. In healthcare we use Honey a lot for wound care.
Ahhhhhh yes well I did get some tcp and this time I might add a bit into it, so how does the sugar draw it out it’s all very interesting
If you could get honey that has been made during the ivy flowering time supposedly has a lot of heeling power. Any bee keepers near
Remember as a lad getting a prod of a briar and it turned sceptic and mother put on a poultice of white bread and hot water it was very hot for the first minute or so but it certainly did the trick and drew all of the crap out
Yes I have just googled poultice recipe and saw that one and another with an onion
Wow, really impressed by the Big Roy poultice. I bet he's full of old-fashioned remedies. Someone should collect old farmers' remedies before they are all lost and forgotten.
Sugar and iodine has been the best combination I've used to draw out infection

I think the problem with those type of programs that paint a bad picture of farming is that they show the program without getting all the facts right first and millions of people watch it and think .......oh farming again what bad things are these bloody farmers up to now. And then we farmers have to try and defend ourselves after the shit has hit the fan. And another thing that pisses me off is as you say charlotte the chap who presented the program sometimes presents countryfile which is suppost to be a program that highlights the good things that are happening in the farming world / countryside. He obviously wasn't bothered too much about being loyal to UK farmers........you know the ones that make sure there's food on his table everyday
Ha ha,u never heard of that cure? If u get a boil or similar, sugar and soap on a plaster, gone the next day lol
No I e never heard of that at all ever, Tracey my sister in law said the same she said you can do it to humans
@@charlotteashleyfarm yep,and any kind of soap, doesn’t have to be carbolic soap

Yes I bet he did nothing worse than that black thorn stuff I got one in my finger when we were hedging what a MESS I never thought a thorn could do so much damage
I wouldn't work for the ADHD for free, have you seen how much they pay themselves?
