4 Steps to learning how to "Beat Juggle"

  • Many aspiring "Beat Juggling" masters watch other masters do phenomenal stuff and understand the hand moves said masters apply to the turntables, yet don't know how to put the moves together themselves in a creative way. Today I'm going to show you.
    Step 1: Define your motive
Your intent sets the tone for the success you will or will not have. So long as your desire to learn is rooted in healthy motives like experiencing yourself as a creative person, you'll learn. But if your goal is to grow your social media followers, chances are you'll give up the minute you experience the challenges that come with learning these techniques.
Step 2: Gather the proper tools
Gathering the proper gear is essential. The masters who created these techniques did so with 2 turntables, a mixer and vinyl. The only think you'll learn using Controllers or other gadgets that omit a turntable's tone arm are bad habits.
    Step 3: Find a mentor
The feedback you receive from a mentor is essential. Mentors help guide your progress and help you adjust your learning methods to better code specific hand movements.
Step 4: Enforce a rigorous practice schedule.
Most people really like the idea of having a bigger bicep muscle. But hate the idea of the physical it work required to make your bicep grow. Take pride in how often you practice for if you want to get good at doing something, you gotta do it over and over and over again.
    Good luck!

In terms of simplifying the complex....Rob Swift is to turntablism what Carl Sagan was to Astronomy.

But if you listen closely to what the student was doing when the video first started he had a dope juggle going it was fresh and then Rob Swift comes with the basic patent and it throws him off cuz he was catching the Bell or cowbell or hit rather then the snare or kick drum

I actually really like that delay on the rewind to the snare, cause it let the one note of the guitar come in, and keeping that makes it funky as hell. I think it could be kept to good effect. that's just my taste though.. let it ride 2 beats and bring it back. big props.

Amazing as always Rob. Would you say it's more important to have your eye on the track you're back spinning to get it to the right position, or the one you're scratching that's playing with the fader open? I can imagine it's a bit of both, but any light you can shed is always appreciated.
    Thank you!
