Thanks for the great comparisson video. I am personally contemplating on how to approach my personal favorites in gaming and your videos are a good approach to compare two games, I feel. Just wondering: in terms of a personal view on games, how much do nostalgia and emotional connection towards a game impact your view on it? Would you say it's fine to love a game based of that you simply had a lot of fun with it personally, even if it might be qualitatively not the greatest nowadays?
Ive noticed a lot of people saying they "just couldnt get into the witcher 3 after a few hours and give up". To those people I say, the game doesnt even start til after you leave white orchard which is literally a tutorial area. So pick it back up and give it a real chance. This is one of if not the greatest game ever and you're missing out fr. I say this as someone who also couldnt get into the game at first and now ive beaten it 5x with over 1000 hrs.
I agree. I was actually one of those people, I only played for an hour and I didnt feel the game maybe bec of the controls too, same with botw for the first 5 hours , its kinda boring but then it turned out fantastic. I love rpg and based on the reviews W3 is one of the best, so I just need more playing time, practice.
@@exterminateccp1642 the details and side stories in TW3 is incredible, like in White Orchard you choose to make a witcher potion to save the girl who got attacked by griffin when going out to meet her lover. I didn't know if she will be saved or not and I forgot about it until later on story, I met a soldier thanked me for saving his lover. Spoil: At the start of the game you already met the final boss of the last DLC, I returned to that point as I remember that I asked that guy before.... and realized he never lied but his words guided me
Can confirm. Tried on PS4, played for an hour or two, never touched it again. But the Switch release invigorated my interest and I gave it another chance. Now I’m SO incredibly addicted, more addicted than I’ve been since BotW. It’s that good,
Same, after 18 hours of play i finally understand how the game works and loving it till now, the first time i buy it because so many people say that it is a really great game. And i saw a 80 percent discount on steam and i buy it directly, the complete edition one. At that time i still play skyrim special edition mostly with mods. Then i started to play witcher 3 for an hour everyday. Cause i still dont feel it, understand it, dont like it. After 18 hours of gameplay, it become one of my finest game i have ever play in my life.
It always rubs me the wrong way when people say the lack of music is a bad thing in Breath of The Wild. Clearly those people don't realise the music was toned down on purpose so you can listen to the sounds of...well THE WILD, the clue is in the games name.
There are moments when this concept works perfectly, but so many scenes fall flat because of the lack of music. Why is there no majestic track when I'm riding across Hyrule field? Why is there no instrument in this game? Music was always an important element of Zelda games, some of them even had their name given in regards to an instrument. I offen enjoy tue minimalistic tunes of BOTW but climbing Hyrule Castle and suddenly enjoying the fantastic track just makes me wish that more areas featured their own songs.
Made In Heaven You're right But you can't be mad to zelda fans who hate it Botw needed just a few more heroic bad ass tracks that every other zelda had It was almost always way too calm imo Its not bad, just could have been much more Especially the epic trailer music not being in the actual game...what a shame
Exactly. It also perfectly fits the theme of the game, making breath of the wilds world feel all the more... well, breathtaking. The only thing the soundtrack really needs are more epic and badass music tracks for those epic and badass moments
Made In Heaven Yep. It was clearly a design choice and they made the right one. Light ambient music works much better than overpowering orchestral pieces in an open world like that. You can actually feel and hear the wild of the world and just enjoy the subtle sounds of nature. Nintendo knew exactly what they were doing. They usually do.
To me they're both two halves of the perfect game, both succeed where the other doesn't quite get it right. Zelda has better gameplay mechanics, whereas The Witcher has a better storyline and sidequests.
@@jasonramjattan1063 I prefer BOTW over witcher anyday. But still, the story is better in Witcher. I liked the main idea in BOTW,but the memories felt very lackluster
SEGA master system better gtfo Nintendo bitch. My console has blast processing making it run games like the ultra realistic Pac-Man at 10 frames a minute. Bet your console can’t do that ;)
I just finished Zelda BOTW yesterday and now im starting Witcher3.. All I can say is that both games are superb.... Doesn't matter which is better as long as we are enjoying the game
I agree what a great time to be a gamer many years ago I had little hope in gaming but oh my after playing both of these masterpieces I must say we are in a golden era once again
If you like exploring and puzzles: Breath of the Wild If you like combat and intricate stories: The Witcher 3 EDIT: A lot of people pointed out that they think BOTW has the better combat mechanics, but that wasn't really my point. When you look at the pure content ratio of each aspect it is clear which game goes in which direction. So my point still stands.
Do not make fun of E.T for Atari 2600. That was my childhood before Nintendo rescued me. Some random stranger gave me a 2600 and I make my mom buy me a new game every month. One of those months E.T was the game. I don't know why I'd picked it? I have never heard of ET. I remember falling into the pit time and time again and each and every time its a pain in the ass to get out but I was new to video games so I still enjoyed it. Now thinking back I'd throw that shit at a wall.
@@FirstNameLastName-oz5ij It's not really that bad as a game. It's considered the worst game ever because it almost Destroyed gaming industry. If we are Talking about absolute worst games : -Plumbers Don't Wear Ties - Crazy Bus - CD-I Zelda -Superman 64 -Big Rigs over the road racing -Ride To Hell retribution -Cheetah Man 2 -Action 52
I know BoTW gets a lot of criticism for its limited use of music but personally, I find this to be incredibly refreshing and makes the game much more enjoyable for long play sessions as the music adds an atmospheric presence that adds to nature of its gameplay (exploration) and momentary silences give the world a sense of realism missing in many games with continuous music
A beautiful game, no doubt. My only issue is weapons breaking. I couldn’t get past that mechanic. Needless to say they made this Zelda title unnecessarily difficult.
Jason Gooden play it for 60 hours and tell me if you still feel that way. I got so bored by the end because there’s no progression in abilities like in other Zelda games. There’s just weapons with bigger numbers to kill the enemies with bigger numbers.
@@Faint366 I agree with you, I had a blast for the first half of the game, but then the other half was disappointingly boring since there was no more progression in weapons for me since I was basically endgame by then. There are some balancing issues, like in cooking for example, and a lack of progression systems later on in the game. There is little incentive to use other options of fighting when you already have a whole arsenal of weapons later in the game really destroying that feel of freedom when you can just use weapon to kill enemies, so weapon breakings was actually a good decision to add in imo. Once the progression system fails you realise how empty the other parts of botw are, like the story, dungeons and shrines for example. Hopefully with the sequel they could improve these issues, especially not trolling completionists with korok seeds, but for the first half of the game I would definitely rate it a 9.5/10.
I dont recommend witcher 3 on switch unless you are a real big fan of cd projekt red and want to give them extra money. I first played it on ps4 then pc now switch. I payed the full price for it and its too blurry to play on handheld (update 3.4). Things keep popping up and the world with all its textures loads in front of you. If you dont mind that its a real awesome game! Cant believe they managed to put it in this small Card.
I wasn't aware that people compared these two games. Honestly, with how much sex, nudity, blood, and general violence is in Witcher 3, I was kinda surprised to hear it was releasing on Switch.
I didn’t play the Witcher 1 or 2, or read any of the books. I didn’t play the past 3 or 4 Zelda games and typically say I “don’t like” the Zelda series. I have about 250 hours invested between these two games. Truly remarkable to win over someone like me who really *shouldn’t* care, but gets sucked in anyway.

@@ranmouri5648 breath of the wild is the better game, hell I'll even go as far as to say link to the past on the super Nintendo is better than the witcher 3.
@@mr_m4613 you are wrong, I too loved Botw since 2017 played it two time already with the expansion but dont always statisfy with your game cuz it will not grow further, there are still too many can be improved in BOTW as well, don't get carried away like Nintendo after winning GOTY they rushed into releasing the expansion for champions of ballad and what do we get? A motorcycle! After clearing BOTW I feel ackward playing another open world games until The Witcher III came on switch, simply bcuz it was the one that I need to play after BOTW. Both world are alive and feels with secrets to discover, more importantly how you can interact with the world itself
What do you mean breaking weapons = what botw lacks? Imagine botw, but without weapon durability? It doesn’t work, it won’t be as good. Weapon breaking is one of the main reasons why we keep on exploring to get better weapons. And that’s also the reason why we sometimes run away from enemies or trying to kill enemies with creative ways like rolling the big boulders or using magnesis. It’s fun. And it helps us get better with other weapons and adapt with changes.
I haven't played BotW as I don't have a console for the last few generations, but I think weapon durability does add different elements to adapt to. It can be good or bad depending on the game, but sounds like it is a good strategic thing for the BotW. I think the way The Witcher 3 does it works well as repairs provides a good money sink, and weapons can be switched easily as there is no shortage of finding them, and repairing or using a weaker weapon is a good choice to have available.
The lack of an ability to repair weapons that you really like, I believe, hurt the game. I would explore to find a great weapon and NEVER want to use it because I didn't want it to break, but because of that I never really got to enjoy it. Permabreaking with no option to repair prior to the break penalized the desire to search for great weapons and use them.
I loved BoTW but didn’t enjoy the weapon durability. Not knowing which weapons to use on which enemies for fear of breaking them and not being able to replace said weapons wasn’t fun for me. And a lot of the time my tactic was using bombs and getting enemies to chase me. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVED the game, but this one aspect was the biggest drawback for me (well, maybe the lack of traditional dungeons and variety of dungeon bosses too)
Weapons breaking is not a flaw. It creates a necessary variety of gameplay and fighting. If not for breaking weapons why would you pay attention to the other 99% of weapons left in Hyrule.
I just wish the rarest weapons would not break though. It is very frustrating especially in the first few hours when you are up against a high leveled enemy and all of a sudden your weapon breaks leaving you vulnerable.
The element of breaking weapons makes you second guess enemy encounters. Where as in the Witcher you can fight enemy’s more often before having your weapons break and needing repairs. I’d say there two different elements one not being better then the other. I do wish you got things from enemy’s in botw like rupees or some incentive to actually want to attack them besides possibly stronger weapons.
I never really liked weapon degradation in games. If I get a cool new weapon, I just want to use it. I can understand the decision to add it but it really ruins the feeling of excitement whenever you get a new weapon because you know it’s just gonna break after 5 swings.
Toledo Christian Matthew lol that’s the point of them, item management is an integral part of the game and if you leave the wrong weapons and pick up the wrong ones, then that’s your fault not the games.
I work as a music producer and mixing engineer, so i always listen carefully all music and sound fx in every game I play. For my personal opinion, the music point is going for both the titles because how the music is treated in relation to the story and the gameplay. In Breath of the Wild, I found they’re artistic choice perfect. You have few tracks going on so you’re mostly focusing on the natural environment. But than the music pops up and when it does, it feel so good, so precious, enhancing the moment perfectly, and that’s because the game wake you up from the habit of not to ear it. It serves your senses. In The Witcher 3 the music is used in a more “canon” way, giving every place and situation a clear identity, and the composition level is stunning. Every track is memorable and perfectly placed, just think about how beautifully is riding over the Skeillege Islands... The Witcher world is so stunning also because of this. So, both games use music for serving 100% the purpose of the gameplay, the identity and ofc, the world surrounding the player. And that’s why for me they both deserve the music point! Sorry for the long comment and my poor English grammar ehehehe, thx (P.s. I totally agree with you in any other point. Nice video and nice examination!)
I think I like the Witcher 3 more. A good story just really emotionally satisfies you. I have read the books so it does add more weight, but even then the voice acting and script are so well done. BOTW is not a bad or even good game by any means. It is a great game for different reasons, but it does not have as much emotional depth. I think with BOTW 2 or whatever it may be they can reconcile between these to give both good gameplay and a great heartfelt story.
@@ihatefanserviceanime364 witcher got it all lol and its not even close bro. im big zelda fan, i played twilight princes, windwaker, skyward sword etc. heck even tok connot be compared to witcher 3.
Zelda BOTW is easily one of my favorite games of all time. I’ve always been a fan of these types of games. Before that it was oblivion and Skyrim I sunk many hours into. But after playing BOTW and finishing the game to 80%-100% five times, I can say it’s my favorite game of all time. It has its flaws but the life of this game is fantastic. I’m saying this as someone who has never played a Zelda game before BOTW. The Witcher 3 is also a great gale but I’ve only put about 10 hrs into it. And the switch port is my first time playing it.. So far I think the gameplay mechanics leaves something to be desired but the story and the monsters, and all the characters seems to be great. I’m looking forward to playing more of it and I really appreciate the realism in this game. It makes all the fantasy/ Sci-Fi Have a real aspect.
Yeah the witcher 3 is best played alone with headphones after the bloody barron quest the game gets better and better just saying the family matters quest is amazing just put more time into it
I just finished playing witcher 3 for the first time and i have to say BOTW is not my favorite anymore, its now my second favorite. I love both games dearly but the witcher 3 wins all the way. only complaint is i was wishing geralt could climb and glide like link then the game would be perfect. in the skillega mountains for example was missing link as a character to control since geralt would easily slide down mountains and hill tops, it was so frustrating.

@@likom9813 your comment makes 0 sense. Not liking the weapon mechanics in botw dosen't = ppl like being handheld or suck at harder games. Stop with that bs statement.
Broken weapons in botw is good idea. Ever play rpg with millions combination of weapon stat but in the end players only use the best set available. While the other weapons just garbages on the road.
4:30 - just a fact check. Breath of the Wild is NOT just 61 square kilometres, it's 360. Breath of the Wild's map is about three times the size of the Witcher 3. It also has significantly more vertical space, making it even larger than a width times height map area would suggest.
@krono069 Except you're doing the exact same thing, hypocrite. BOTW has objectively a larger map. Measurements have already been done, and the above comment is just reiterating that. Quit fanboy-ing, and look into facts.
@@heckingbamboozled8097 >> Google it genius. Holy crap. BotW fanboys are the worst. It's not as big as W3 with all maps combined and that's not including the DLC! How about YOU take your OWN advice and look it up before you fanboy out with your stupid little Link avatar. lol
Tigar0411 Arkham In actual ways they can be compared. RPG vs Adventure game. World (Design) - BOTW and it shouldn't even be argued. Story - Subjective. Writing goes to The Witcher 3 though it is worth mentioning that the story of BOTW is optional. The Witcher 3 isn't. Gameplay - BOTW Bosses - Witcher 3 Controls - BOTW Music - Subjective. Use of music probably works better in BOTW's case though being an open world game and all but they are too different to compare. There isn't a whole lot that can be compared between the two games fairly but if we take each into consideration Breath of The Wild ends up being a superior open world action adventure game than The Witcher 3 as an open world action RPG. Since the open world and action aspects are clearly in Breath of The Wild's favor as far as actual game design is concerned. And both do amazing jobs at the last aspect. RPG for TW3. Adventure for BOTW.
What I hate most in witcher 3 is that there's a lot of question marks on the map. You can take a look at different stuff to find or fight monsters on these question marks. This is good but however, it gets rid of that exploration and suprise factor to it as the question marks doesn't show up when just running around without having to open up the map to mark the waypoint to these question marks. It could've been done better if they just didn't show the question marks on the map. This way there's that sense of adventure, exploration and rmrandomly finding stuff when just exploring and roaming around randomly
World - Botw i agree with the physics and climbing Story - hands down its witcher 3, botw story is too straight forward Gameplay - botw simply because of the combination of different element like physics, weather and etc in the battle, witcher 3 combat can be repetative especially if you stick to one style like pure sword or pure element Sidequests - witcher 3, no need to explain! Bosses - witcher 3 for variety Controls - botw, complicated but super satisfying. Witcher can be dull when it comes to controls. Music - witcher 3, their musics can hype your adventure and adds to the mood of the world But the point here is botw and witcher 3 are 2 very enjoyable game. Spent 100+ hours on both of them.
Witcher is far more involved than Zelda. Very much more an RPG, whereas BoTW is more action adventure. To fully appreciate Witcher I feel that you need to fully experience and immerse yourself in the whole story, which means if you have got 100 odd hours spare, you won’t appreciate, whereas Zelda is very much a game you can easily dip in and out of in intervals and go explore the beautiful open world. For the record, have only just started Witcher III on Switch and barely a few hours in - it’s crafted MAGNIFICENTLY from the point of view of a story but can already tell BoTW is more accessible and more fun to play - the joy of Witcher lies in unravelling the story, whereas the joy of BoTW is in the world that’s been crafted to fully explore.
I don’t agree with the soundtrack one. Botw has an amazing soundtrack system. It has a lot of “invisible sound mechanics” for example the combat music changes based on the enemy, but not enough to make you notice, but enough to make you not start to get irritated by it, also when fighting, when you land a hit it actually plays the hit sound to the closest beat in the song, making it satisfying. The soundtrack seemingly changes during night, because it was recorded in a studio using real instruments, not digitally. There are a lot of sound tracks for the game. Told me you leave a village or a town you will most likely hear the wild soundtrack kick in, but what’s cool about it is that it actually changes a lot of times, making random notes and creating unique combos. The music is amazing and the fact that it sometimes doesn’t play is a good thing, because the sound design is amazing in this game
Lou Ryan just gonna disagree with you. I understand tree branches and such, but swords and clubs should have way more uses before they break. I prefer repairing weapons than to have them copied (or whatever botw has). Inventory management shouldn’t be that tedious.
Lou Ryan I just avoided most fights because the reward for winning the fight was just one more royal sword to replace the one you broke killing the enemies.
The 200 hours I’ve put into botw are 200 amazing hours I’ll never forget. I haven’t played Witcher 3 so I can’t really form an opinion but the game looks amazing am I’m gonna give it a shot
The physics of BoW might be better, but W3's world is literal art. I dare you be a be in grimy Vellen and then not have your breath taken away by a golden sunset as you see how a little light change reveals its beauty.
@SmokeSesh520 I will almost certainly be buying it (Miyazaki FromSoft titles usually are guarantee buys for me). I'm definitely eager to see what the gameplay looks like when they reveal more information.
I think the music is perfect in The Witcher 3, but I agree that the combat could be improved. Love Dark Souls, though I wonder if it would get tedious if the Witcher 3 had such a combat style as the game is just so vast with so many enemies to kill.
Another interesting category: replay value. While both games will feel different with multiple playthroughs, BotW will only change depending in what you're decide to do first. The decisions made in The Witcher go deeper and will present you with alternate endings to quests and stories. For me, the option to choose between Triss or Yennefer for romance was enough to warrant a second playtrough.
^not even to mention the ways of doing (SPOLIER) who you want to rule THAT country... or how you want the main ending to be. Add to that Blood and wine, and ive had like 3 playthroughs and are all fantastic. Replay value i would say goes to witcher. But.... you can always keep playing BOTW. More stuff to do in the game world, imo
For me Breath of the wild is the best game of the history, I mean... We are talking about videogames and the gameplay, mechanics and FUN, that's why I choose Zelda games, if I wanna watch stories is better to play a movies or tv series
You are wrong about witcher 3 , yes it gives you the option to switch off it's marker but it is not playable in this state. One man in a side quest tells you about where to go by stating location's geography. But when i reach that location. I find that location is completely different from what he says. For example he state that their is a board which tell you where to go but it is not located there.
I'd go with Breath of the Wild, if we're going specifically the Switch versions, because of the Switcher 3's visual downgrades. If we were comparing BOTW against the original Witcher 3, then it would be tighter.
Supposing the drifting issue on switch, as it mostly only occurs to heavy gamers and that it is better play witcher handheld on switch, this game can be very ... very frustrating while looting and travelling times; tho that is not the case about BOTW and Skyrim at all. I finally decided to pick witcher and play it ,after these years of ... digging in Dark souls series, still on switch specifically instead high end pc or ps4 because of portability and personal handheld preference. Notable saying there are some wise visual decisions over character details in dialogue scenes that actually models look pretty nice and close to console standards which helps deliver solid experience.
What i really hate in botw is the enemy variety. It makes me bored fighting the same monster again and again. The game only chance the colour of the monster. I hope there are more enemy types in botw 2, like the witcher did.
George Massora Yea. I hated all those small copy/paste points of interest in The Witcher 3 myself and the way they left the marks by default of each one before you even discover them. They both still have some things that can definitely be improved in future titles.
its not so different from the repetitiveness of korock seeds and same monsters defending a chest. witcher at least put a diary that you can read to get immersed in the story of what happened at the ? location. zelda is just monsters waiting to be killed. @@gamersinger5118
Anthony Harris for as cool as that’d be, he can’t be in. Characters need to have originated from a video game to be in Smash while Geralt is from a novel. Soul Calibur 6 on the other hand...now this, I like
I do think you disregarded the fact that BOTW has a ton of secrets. The story might not be good, but one of the things I found so great about it it's the fact that you can only imagine what happened to the dozens of abandoned villages, statues, temple-like structures and so. I think it gives it a different feeling to its own story.
I actually really dislike that about BotW. It takes hardly any effort to just copy/paste a few broken buildings and say “oooooh what happened here? How mysterious! It’s totally just as interesting after we do the same thing 5000 times right?” The fans are the ones putting in the legwork to make those areas interesting because the game doesn’t give us any actual information about them. Ya there are tons of areas to find in BotW, but what can you actually discover? A shrine? A treasure chest with some rock salt inside? Another Knight’s Sword? Cool... Think back to ALttP when you could actually find completely unique items by exploring hard to reach areas. What does BotW have that’s even close to that?
Faint366 you can explore Hyrule castle and find both Zelda’s and King Roam’s diary to see further into the lore. The story is filled with little nods to what had happen that the developers put in, not the fans
This is a tough one cuz this two are the best game there is, however for the Expansion and DLC I got to give to Witcher III Everything else is cool with these two simply cuz the world is alive and full with secrets to discover! Congrats both!
I think the music design choice for Zelda BOTW is logic as part of the spirit the game wants to convey. I think it did not make much sense to compare them in this cathegory
BotW would be in my best games of all time if not for some serious issues I have with it. As it stands, Xenoblade X is my top game. -Weapons are too fragile and there's no way to repair/craft them. -Side quests, aside from maybe one or two, are terrible. -I wish there was more to do with the "new champions", especially Teba. Teba's my favorite Zelda character. -Motion control rotation in shrines was horrendous. -Korok Seeds were a bad idea. Makes 100%ing very discouraging. -I wish photography was more rewarding. -Best way to get arrows is to abuse the guaranteed diamond at Satori(?) Mountain, sell it, and buy arrows. -No way to properly craft armor.
Both of these games are masterpieces, in the truest sense of the word. Idk if I could even pick which I enjoyed more. They’re both excellent, each in their own way with their own strong points and weak points. When a game is as good as these, it’s like comparing infinity to infinity. Which is greater? Even mathematics itself cannot tell.
I found Witcher too difficult to understand. The simplicity of BOTW makes it more appealing. Witcher 3 had me so confused and frustrated. I didn't know if I was doing things right. Also, mixing potions? Taking elixirs? How do you beat a boss if the game doesn't teach you how to do these properly? At lest with zelda it's easy to know when you cook something how it will turn out. Maybe I missed something in the Witcher tutorial, or maybe the game falls short of teaching and it's not my fault. Or, on another level, maybe Witcher 3 is simply just not for casual gamers like myself. I bought Witcher 3 digitally on my switch so there's no returning it. I will give it a shot later, but for now, I'm way happier with BOTW. and that is from a huge Witcher book and TV show fan.....
Gerald: so Link... Might want to play a few rounds of Gwent? New DLC clue: Hyrule cards Details: -special power: triforce power, you can make a peaceful or a complete doom the match depending of your heart -unique cards: link (can destroy any evil card of your opponent), Ganon (you became a magicians and when you play jaskier it becomes an infernal beast) and more -new armor for Gerald: the Grand Master heroe of time in kaer Morgen -new habilities: if Gerald gets the treatment with the Hyrule mutagen, he will be able to use the paraglider This is what I call the most epic crossover we want because of this video
You know, I'm getting SICK of people harshing on BotW's music. Just because it's not EVERYWHERE doesn't mean it's bad. Not only that but BotW has more variety in it's music. Also, Witcher's music applies to a specific tone. So, sorry but Witcher should get the point for music.
Chris Griffin It’s a minimalistic OST, it’s supposed to be a substitute for the world & its’ atmosphere, not some grandiose, orchestrated Hans Zimmer shit!
Witcher 3 has great story, some really memorable side quests and great characters and humor (plus it takes a special place in my heart because I'm a pole), while Zelda has great gameplay, physics and gives you a incredible feeling of freedom which can really bring out your creativeness. Chosing which is better is like chosing a favorite child but, personally, I would lean slightly on the witcher's side.
I love both games, and now with Totk, these are my most played games on the switch. I only recently got the witcher 3 this march, after playing botw for almost 2 years, I got it a lot later than most people, in 2021. And the witcher 3 was everything that I was expecting, I had wanted for so long a medieval game, and this was exactly it. I love the story, I love how alive the world is, the fact that every single character has voice acting and dialogue, not only main characters but also pedestrians, shopkeepers etc, makes the game incredibly immersive. The fact that every dialogue choice will impact the story is insane, one dialogue choice can end with characters dying later on, that is fascinating. The side quests are amazing, I love the monster contracts, every single one is like a little detective adventure and I love it. Botw lacks all of this for the most part, there are a few good side quests but most of them are really short and super easy, and most are a variant of the same thing, like getting something specific, in the witcher every side quest and contract has its own fleshed out story. Botw is better than witcher 3 in other aspects, like combat. I definitely enjoy the combat more in botw, flurry rush is so satisfying, spinning with a two-handed weapon too, you can freeze, burn or electrocute enemies, it is just a more fun experience in that aspect. And the physics are just insane, you can feel the weight of things and the world is much more interactive than in the witcher, you can climb, cut down trees, pick up rocks etc.
I never played any Zelda game before BOTW, and as a switch lite owner i had no expectations from the game either, and goodness i did not even realise when did i hook myself into the wonderful brimming world of Hyrule. I would love to try Witcher someday.
The experiences that I had with Witcher 3 and Botw are some that I will never forget. The characters and storyline in Witcher 3 are some of the best ever.. and even the sidequests are so good. Geralt is a great protagonist with personality and choices and moral dilemma. it has been 3 years since I last played Witcher 3, and even now I remember the storylines of some memorable sidequests. Also, the bloody baron storyline is one of the best. Combat is fun too. Whereas in BOTW, the sense of openness that I got from the entire map can't be matched by games 10 times it's size in playable area. It is always fun to experiment in the BOTW physics engine, and I am never bored by the vast nothingness in the maps.. there is so much to do. Every aspect of this game is fun.. even the breakable weapons part. There is something you can always do in BOTW even if you 100% the game
What do you have fun doing in botw? I'm playing it now and trying to have fun but having a hard time. I had most of my enjoyment early in botw in my ANTICIPATION of what might be on top of a mountain in the distance, or on an interestingly shaped island, only to be sorely disappointed when it was another tedious shrine, korok, seed, some fancy but breakable weapon which means I don't want to use it. It just felt so empty, boring and repetitive, and unfinished once the novelty wore off. The map is very beautiful and visually interesting and all that, but the content people are praising wasn't nearly interesting enough for me I guess. I appreciate the open format and lack of hand holding but I think they really need to put more out there to make the exploration worth it.
@@Atomicunderware of course theres another weapon but not necessarily another FANCY weapon just around the corner. It makes you want to hoard the nice things because it's so fragile.
Great video, currently I own both games on Switch, and love both for various different aspects of each game. However if I really had to pick one as my favorite, it will have to be Zelda Breath of the Wild, the main reason been Zelda overall just feel more whimsical and relaxing to me, this is a more personal thing though, never the less both are great games to play on the go~
In botw it just feels like you can do what ever you want and it is just a great feeling when travelling hyrule in comparison to witcher 3 but the witcher 3 story is so interresting what botw lacks
Hard to compare these games. While both are open world they are too different in so many ways... Finished Botw 3 times Witcher 2 times currently on my third Witcher playthrough ...
Played BOTW almost 2000 hours while my wife surpassed me with over 2000 hours and I call myself a Zelda super fan. I played Witcher 3 for a few hours and call it quits because of its sluggish control and battle. I am a huge Nintendo fan so I am used to almost perfect control and character reaction. I played Red Dead Redemption 2 and its slow motion control made me never want to play that game again. I have not had too much success with non Nintendo games. The last non Nintendo game I beat was Dragon Quest 11. I might one day give Witcher 3 another try.
I ain't even mad, I've sunk 100's of hours in BOTW, I have yet to play Witcher 3 but I need to. It's on my list. At this point even if you haven't played either game just hearing all the stories about them all over the internet shows you how amazing both of them are.
Lol botw had the worst puzzles of any zelda game I've played. Only a few were good, the rest were easy and unsatisfying. Skyward sword had the best puzzles.
@@tyrael43 that's an excuse, Nintendo could have delayed the game to give more time to other aspects if they wanted to. Shigeru Miyamoto has a famous quote about how a delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is bad forever. However, they had a deadline though for the switch release date which was important. They had to sell the console and obviously the launch games were a big part of that so they needed botw ready for then.
I personally think The Witcher 3 is a better game. Running around getting all the shrines and trying to get my health and stamina up in BOTW was exhausting and not fun at all. Whereas running around and doing contracts and sidequests and everything in Witcher 3 was hella fun and i never felt bored, there was so much in depth content it was insane. BOTW felt like a shallower version of witcher 3 to me.
You're crazy about the music. I've been playing Witcher for over a week now, and I don't know any of the songs except for the screaming ladies when I fight... I know every Zelda song by heart all the way through and the main theme will bring tears to your eyes.
Man I'm torn between these two...I like the playstyle, physics and simplicity in Zelda but I also like the story, challenge and making your own story in Witcher. To be honest no matter which one I choose I'll be busy for quite a while before I'll able to afford to buy the other one as well lol
I’ve played Botw, my dad played Witcher, neither of us have played the other game. We always argue which is better, but if I could I would most definitely play Witcher, but my dad refuses to play Botw, still trying to convince him to play tho👍
To this day I listen to the Witcher 3 soundtrack in my car whenever I get tired of the radio haha .. tbh I love both these games so so much and wanted to make a video similar to this because I do love both games very very much but genuinely felt insanely sucked into The Witcher 3 zelda always holds a special place in my heart and I loved Botw but something about Witcher 3 just captivated me - nicely done video comparing the two(:
I remember being genuinely shocked when rain didn't put out fire in TW3 and that my torch stayed lit even when it was storming. Idk what the point of the weather was if it didn't really effect anything. And I know for a fact there's at least a freezing buff of sorts in TW3, not sure why he didn't get cold in extreme weather outside of that world overtaken by the White Frost. The only place I've found so far where it matters outside of that is a few of the decoctions + potions which have special effects during certain weather.... but I live absolutely fine without them, I only use a few select ones and so it's still pointless to me xD (That said... the workd and story and how it firs the world is a BIG thing for me. That's why I ended up preferring TW3 even though I played it after BotW. I really got into the world that was set up and really got my teeth into characters, so to speak. I loved the dynamics between them and I enjoyed that gray area the game constantly put me in. I'm the type to pour hours and hours into just reading everything in the game available, from random books lying around to bestiary entries. I did the same thing with the Wizard's Companion in Ni No Kuni, I swear half my hours in the game was just me reading things xD Buuuut that's my tangent over)
Witcher made me tear up in the end. Working on BOTW kind of realizing that I'm not into the cartoonishness of it. It's also kind of frustrating that there isn't much guidance in this game. I was new to the world of witcher too when I came into it but the introduction to the world was much more effective.
Medieval is my favorite setting in video games and in books, but I absolutely cannot force myself to play a single Witcher game more than an hour no matter how hard I try. It pisses me off so bad to not be able to experience these games with all the love there is out there for them, but I just hate every gameplay element about them. They have interesting settings, characters, and stories. They have great music, and gorgeous graphics. They control like a bull in a glass factory, high on meth, with 3 legs, and blind. The inventory system is clunky and frustrating. I end up having to watch people play it to get any real enjoyment from the game, because I find the controls to be such balls that I can't do it. I just can't do it. I play Breath of the Wild for hours just messing around with physics and hunting for things I may have missed, despite it being my 4th play through already. Can't get enough of the gameplay on Zelda. If they took Zelda's gameplay and added Witcher's rich attention to environment and dialogue (and music), I'd never be able to stop playing.
Your reading comprehension is just completely broken. I don't know how many times I can say I wanted a game that looked like Witcher 3 but had Zelda's controls for you to understand. You are so sad. I KNOW WITCHER IS DARK AND MATURE AND REALISTIC I JUST WANT IT TO NOT HAVE ASS CONTROLS. ZELDA WOULD BE A GOOD CONTROL SCHEME TO COPY. DO YOU UNDERSTAND ENGLISH? OKAY BYE
@@Anonymous-jh1ci I honestly don't know. I didn't like the idea that someone thought I wanted Witcher to look like Zelda. I want Witcher to look exactly like it does, I just want to be able to enjoy playing it as much. lol. I'm over it, though. I'm surprised he was even able to type out a few replies with the reading level he's rocking.
so im currently on a play through for the first time of the Witcher 3, I now understand why the hell this game is so praised. Its so good. I think BOTW Has unique concepts but like in my opinion the Witcher 3 is better. The story and character building, and item management is just better. Not to mention the crafting system and witcher senses and the beautiful voice acting in the witcher 3. IDK man I love BOTW But it fell short for me in many ways. (I hope that the botw2 fixes this.) But the economy in the Witcher actually gives you a reason to do quests. Zelda is so unrewarding in this regard.
I cant wait to play The Witcher.. its been downloading for 2 hours now, 1 to go i hope + my internet has been slacking but whatever lol. Ive heard so much stuff about this game so i finally came around to it. paid $60 for a 7 year old game(the complete edition), im fine with that.. i love BOTW. honestly thought it was one of the best games and im not huge on Zelda.. last i played Zelda was on nintendo 64 haha
to sum it up, if you're mature, like a good storyline, tons of different enemies, and a larger number of variables and abilities in combat, play the witcher. If you like speedrunning, and a smaller variety of enemies, and or prefer not to see blood or graphic content, play Zelda.
I remember playing Skyrim for the first time. I could not put it down. I eventually got into Botw and when I found out both games were on Switch I beat Skyrim and then went back to Botw and still haven't beat it yet.
I agree with this. I’ve played and completed both games. I love them both. The difference to me is this. When I finished the Witcher 3 I didn’t have any desire to play on a harder mode. When I finished Breath of the Wild I couldn’t wait to go back and play it on a harder mode. When the dlc dropped for the W3 i got it but didn’t finish it right away. When the dlc dropped for BOTW I didn’t stop until I completed everything and Trial of the Sword which was so fun to me. As far as pure gaming fun I give the nod to BOTW
The Witcher 3 has horror, drama, serious romance and smut, action, fantasy, sci-fi and pretty much a little of every genre packed into it. Something for literally ANYBODY that decides to pick it up and try it. BotW has......... Cool physics.. yippee.. Although LoZ is the greatest series of games EVER MADE
You just don’t get it. LoZ games have never been story heavy. The very first LoZ was all about exploring an open map freely and BoTW expands on this ten-fold. If you think the only thing BoTW has going for it is it’s realistic physics you’ve missed the entire point of the game.
These are games, not movies. Gameplay mechanics and physics can't simply be dismissed as something on the side. They're front and centre of what makes a game fun to play.
I’ve never been into 3rd person games, favouring a more immersive 1st person experience, and I never really liked the BoTW art style. But I decided to give them a chance and play them. And damn are they good!
Loved Breath of the Wild but after one long playthrough I didnt care as much for starting over again. With The Witcher 3 I've had multiple playthroughs on PS4, PC, Switch. Love both regardless.
I have been playing BOTW for years I love that game and have been playing Witcher three for the last three months and cannot constantly play it cause frankly it annoys me... I will finish it I payed for the damn thing.. and its two extensions but I bought master mode in BOTW and never looked back.. yeah you can finish this and finish that but there are always new skills to learn (part of the skill of the game is knowing when to throw your weapon and use a new one it is not a downfall it is an adventure) and things to try .. I am not a huge "yeah let's read a novel " kind of game player. I want to get in have fun and enjoy. I have been hitting all the side quests on witcher 3 and so far the game is not challenging but maybe as it goes along it does... to me it is following your normal online, upgrade and conquer way of it. I am waiting for next Zelda to come out and have heard mixed things so trying to not get too pumped up, I will finish witcher but Zelda is my winner.
How far along in the story are you in The Witcher? I felt the same way, played it here and there for many months but it felt like a chore...but I kept playing because something about the world was fascinating to me, a mix of the music and the beautiful sunsets, and certain characters. Now I really love the game and I'm glad I took a chance. I still haven't played BOTW though, but that's next on my list.
Witcher 3 is amazing and my second favorite game of all time but i gotta give it to botw. Honestly the most addicted ive been to playing any video game. My dream open world game would be botw level freedom and exploration mixed in with witcher 3 level side quests
I have to give it to the witcher. The depth of stories and gameplay and maturity of game are far superior. Plus the ending didnt suck like BOTW. I mean... heart of stone... that story alone.
This took way too long to put together, but it's finally done! Hope you enjoy the video, make sure to leave a like so more people can see it!
You know since both Witcher and BotW are both game of the years games, will there be a crossover DLC between the two games?
@@pimsutter that would be cool you could even have a dodongo that looks like a dragon
Witcher 3 is the better game of the two. Had about an equal amount of fun playing through both (to 100%) though.

It’s that good,
You can be 30 hours into the game and still be st the beginning lmao
Made In Heaven also the music also represents how link is alone/lost as he explores hyrule
Made In Heaven
You're right
But you can't be mad to zelda fans who hate it
Botw needed just a few more heroic bad ass tracks that every other zelda had
It was almost always way too calm imo
Its not bad, just could have been much more
Especially the epic trailer music not being in the actual game...what a shame
Exactly. It also perfectly fits the theme of the game, making breath of the wilds world feel all the more... well, breathtaking. The only thing the soundtrack really needs are more epic and badass music tracks for those epic and badass moments
Made In Heaven
Yep. It was clearly a design choice and they made the right one. Light ambient music works much better than overpowering orchestral pieces in an open world like that. You can actually feel and hear the wild of the world and just enjoy the subtle sounds of nature. Nintendo knew exactly what they were doing. They usually do.

If you like combat and intricate stories: The Witcher 3

I know BoTW gets a lot of criticism for its limited use of music but personally, I find this to be incredibly refreshing and makes the game much more enjoyable for long play sessions as the music adds an atmospheric presence that adds to nature of its gameplay (exploration) and momentary silences give the world a sense of realism missing in many games with continuous music
I only just got a Switch and started playing Breath of the Wild. Once I started playing it, I knew it had to be game of the year.
Yeah i totally agree with you but if it was released the same year as the witcher 3 then it would lose in almost category.
Faint366 I’ve played the game for 350 hours and I still have a blast when I play it

If the durability was less harsh the it would’ve been great the weapons just break to fast
The issue isn't them being breakable. The issue is them being weak as paper, and there not being a way to craft and repair, and upgrade.
I loved BoTW but didn’t enjoy the weapon durability. Not knowing which weapons to use on which enemies for fear of breaking them and not being able to replace said weapons wasn’t fun for me. And a lot of the time my tactic was using bombs and getting enemies to chase me.
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVED the game, but this one aspect was the biggest drawback for me (well, maybe the lack of traditional dungeons and variety of dungeon bosses too)
Imagine a game that combines the detailed world, combat, and freedom of BOTW with the story and quests of TW3...
That would belong to the upcoming breath of the wild 2
@@Sympyismoon yeah I really hope nintendo does that.
^ that would defeat the purpose though. If some weapons did break and others didn't, you would just blitz it to the unbreakable ones and be done
Sorry for the long comment and my poor English grammar ehehehe, thx
(P.s. I totally agree with you in any other point. Nice video and nice examination!)
Lmao literally all of the witcher soundtrack is in D minor
I think I like the Witcher 3 more. A good story just really emotionally satisfies you. I have read the books so it does add more weight, but even then the voice acting and script are so well done. BOTW is not a bad or even good game by any means. It is a great game for different reasons, but it does not have as much emotional depth. I think with BOTW 2 or whatever it may be they can reconcile between these to give both good gameplay and a great heartfelt story.

4:30 - just a fact check. Breath of the Wild is NOT just 61 square kilometres, it's 360. Breath of the Wild's map is about three times the size of the Witcher 3. It also has significantly more vertical space, making it even larger than a width times height map area would suggest.

In actual ways they can be compared. RPG vs Adventure game.
World (Design) - BOTW and it shouldn't even be argued.
Story - Subjective. Writing goes to The Witcher 3 though it is worth mentioning that the story of BOTW is optional. The Witcher 3 isn't.
Gameplay - BOTW
Bosses - Witcher 3
Controls - BOTW
Music - Subjective.
I like how Nintendo put witch 3 on switch knowing there are some interesting cutscenes 😏

World - Botw i agree with the physics and climbing
Story - hands down its witcher 3, botw story is too straight forward
Gameplay - botw simply because of the combination of different element like physics, weather and etc in the battle, witcher 3 combat can be repetative especially if you stick to one style like pure sword or pure element
Sidequests - witcher 3, no need to explain!
Bosses - witcher 3 for variety
Controls - botw, complicated but super satisfying. Witcher can be dull when it comes to controls.
Music - witcher 3, their musics can hype your adventure and adds to the mood of the world
But the point here is botw and witcher 3 are 2 very enjoyable game. Spent 100+ hours on both of them.
Sounds like Witcher is more Lord of the rings than Zelda.
Witcher has a more Game of thrones vibe to it
Well, Witcher 3 in (my opinion) is far more similar to Shrek than LoR.

@@easy3088
I mean, I watched the movies and I am reading Fellowship of The Ring, but I do not consider myself a LoR fan.

The physics of BoW might be better, but W3's world is literal art. I dare you be a be in grimy Vellen and then not have your breath taken away by a golden sunset as you see how a little light change reveals its beauty.
If The Witcher 3 uses
the same art-style, it'll run better.
I prefer BoTW. 😭♥️
Story and side quests of the Witcher, Exploration/physics/music of zelda, and the combat of Dark Souls. That would be my perfect game.
YES YES YES
@SmokeSesh520 I will almost certainly be buying it (Miyazaki FromSoft titles usually are guarantee buys for me). I'm definitely eager to see what the gameplay looks like when they reveal more information.
I think the music is perfect in The Witcher 3, but I agree that the combat could be improved. Love Dark Souls, though I wonder if it would get tedious if the Witcher 3 had such a combat style as the game is just so vast with so many enemies to kill.
Witcher 3 music is 10x better.
Zelda only has a few piano strokes lmao
Anyone else find the shrines to be extremely underrated?
For me Breath of the wild is the best game of the history, I mean... We are talking about videogames and the gameplay, mechanics and FUN, that's why I choose Zelda games, if I wanna watch stories is better to play a movies or tv series
You are wrong about witcher 3 , yes it gives you the option to switch off it's marker but it is not playable in this state. One man in a side quest tells you about where to go by stating location's geography. But when i reach that location. I find that location is completely different from what he says. For example he state that their is a board which tell you where to go but it is not located there.
Music of breath of the wild is underrated. It completely fits it's world.

Even on the Switch, I still think Witcher looks better
What i really hate in botw is the enemy variety. It makes me bored fighting the same monster again and again. The game only chance the colour of the monster. I hope there are more enemy types in botw 2, like the witcher did.

Yea. I hated all those small copy/paste points of interest in The Witcher 3 myself and the way they left the marks by default of each one before you even discover them. They both still have some things that can definitely be improved in future titles.

@@dvornikovalexei Ive actually never played Witcher 3 haha, I cant wait to play it in my Switch!

I'm a Nintendo / Zelda fan, but I think TW3WH deserves more credit, BOTW lacks lots of details compared to The Witcher
Gwent is amazing ,so much strategy for such a simple game.
I think the music design choice for Zelda BOTW is logic as part of the spirit the game wants to convey. I think it did not make much sense to compare them in this cathegory
Me too
Despite this fair comparison , These 2 games are my best game of all time , actually they are my top 2 .

Right on. Both are amongst the greatest games to ever be created. No need to compare the two in my opinion
Good analysis

I have a good laugh when they hand the first category to breath of wild. I just can't comprehend how the cartoonish looking can be over Witcher 3.
Radio music is trash these days nothing beats the beautiful melodic artistic music from video games
@tom gu NieR Automatta is another one of my favorite games as well as one of my favoriteee soundtracks 😍😍
The only place I've found so far where it matters outside of that is a few of the decoctions + potions which have special effects during certain weather.... but I live absolutely fine without them, I only use a few select ones and so it's still pointless to me xD
(That said... the workd and story and how it firs the world is a BIG thing for me.
Lol made witcher a ridiculous cartoony embarrassment? Fuck off
Your reading comprehension is just completely broken.
OKAY BYE
@@lxxvx why do you even bother with this guy. It's obvious he still struggles to read 3rd grade level books
@@Anonymous-jh1ci I honestly don't know. I didn't like the idea that someone thought I wanted Witcher to look like Zelda. I want Witcher to look exactly like it does, I just want to be able to enjoy playing it as much. lol. I'm over it, though. I'm surprised he was even able to type out a few replies with the reading level he's rocking.
lxxv Try Dragons Dogma, by Capcom. I have a feeling youd like it.
so im currently on a play through for the first time of the Witcher 3, I now understand why the hell this game is so praised. Zelda is so unrewarding in this regard.
keep playing, i was the same. But after some time, witcher 3 got repetitive.
@@andyc6542 bro. I love both. I stated this. It's just that Witcher 3 is on another level of epic
These are games, not movies. Gameplay mechanics and physics can't simply be dismissed as something on the side. They're front and centre of what makes a game fun to play.
@@RS-ni3lj they are books actually and games were made from those
@Todor Samardzhiev what's even remotely bad about that?
@Aaron9 the fuck is your problem?
Watching this makes me wonder how the playing experience would change if you could swap the dynamic soundtracks.
I have to give it to the witcher. The depth of stories and gameplay and maturity of game are far superior. Plus the ending didnt suck like BOTW. I mean... heart of stone... that story alone.
