    Almost 4 Years later, this Video Helped me. So i got this problem my keyboard's Power Button went malfunction. I cannot power up my Laptop. Here is the solution i found from the Internet : You must unplug the CMOS Battery (That Round Yellow thing in this video) and plugin AC Power cord (Power Battery Bar must be removed first). Your laptop will boot, enter the BIOS by pressing F2 and then look for Power Management or Power. Enable the feature power on when AC Power Cord connected. Press F10 Save & Exit. Reassemble your laptop and then power on by pluggin in Power Cord from the AC Adapter. Your Laptop will automatically Power On. I know the simplest solution is to get a new keyboard, but if you dont have the budget for that, this will help save your day.

    When pushing back the trackpad part, lift the machine and take a look at it horizontally (from the front), see if there are gaps, mine had to be pressed down pretty hard.
    I had no replacement yellow battery pack thingy, but of course an aftermarket battery will work just fine. The yellow jacket and the wire connector are not (easily) removable, so I advise some duct tape magic.

    Can i turn on my laptop without the cmos battery?

    • @LenovoSupport
      @LenovoSupport  7 лет назад +5

      Yes, a laptop should be able to POST and boot without a CMOS battery. You will probably get date and time errors and have a BIOS that forgets settings. It really is a good idea to get a new one if you can.

      On my X230 (flat BIOS battery) I have to press F1 and set the year every time otherwise it won't boot (without big battery). I let Windows set the day, month and time via the internet after which is less effort. If you leave the big battery attached it works fine.

      You can easily analyze the crash dump with a program called WhoCrashed which might explain if it's a driver issue etc. It sounds like you bought defective RAM, check it with Memtest86.

After 3 days working without any problems the same: next day didnt start too. And now the X230.

    My X230 has some problems turning off or go to suspend mode correctly. Same problem with Win 10 and Linux, also Win 10 shows time incorrect after changing BIOS options before it can sync with time server again. @@LenovoSupport Thanks for reply. Both Windows 10 and Linux, Ubuntu, are up to date, BIOS has been reset to original settings from options. BIOS is the latest 2.77 for X230. Windows seem to be able to go suspend mode and shut down correctly if only a short while, few minutes, have passed since last bootup. Restart works fine.
      It's a minor annoyance that I can't use suspend mode to keep programs open and computer has to shutdown by holding power button. It just started doing that about a year ago and I understand 8 year old computer might need some spare parts this time.
