I can totally relate to Gilda's experience. I left Philippines because I cannot see the systemic corruption at all levels of government going away and same with the state of safety and security. I wanted to raise my child in a safe and enabling environment and have a better education to compete in global setting. We came early 2000 and I can definitely state that finding job is not that easy but persistence and determination is the key. I totally prepared myself and shed my "title", starting work in Canada as factory worker and with the grace of God I'm now working with the largest employer in Canada. So power on pinoys, if the "Gilda's" can do it we definitely can do it too!
She is Absolutely correct when she said that Old time Pinoys in Canada faced the same struggles back then as newcomers now.... it's just a different time. Crimes were also always present, only difference is ack then the media didn't report it like they do now, plus there are way more people now also ...it's all relative. Great episode Ate Ina !❤

Always a pleasure to inspire our kababayans and newcomers regardless of race. Libre ang mangarap. Hold on to tibay ng loob and pananampalataya. God never fails to prove that He is God.
This is great content Ina. It's all about getting to your goal, focusing on that and not settling and you can go beyond what you see and re-focus on your goal. Focusing on your children is a great goal! Don't forget your faith- great lesson!
I hope that your viewers can see the positive message of this interview. The corruption in the Philippines has been a given ever since the father was the president. The persistence for something better should be a spark that can motivate us not to settle and find something better.
I see myself in Ms. Gilda. I also want to pursue a PhD abroad and eventually live there. My line of work is also in research, so thank you very much for guesting her. such an inspiration.
Not having Canadian or US work experience really makes looking for a job like you used to do in the Philippines or elsewhere more challenging. It took a year and dozens of interviews for my husband to get a software engineer position in General Motors. Tiyaga lang talaga at lakas ng loob makipagsabayan sa mga graduates dito at may experience na.
That's why we left the Philippines, too. Will better hurdle the uncertainties and challenges in Canada than to be in that kind of world. My son and daughter can't take the CULTURE sa ating bansa. They've been exposed to traveling to first world cities and they saw the BIG difference. No regrets to give up our very comfortable life back then.
And still after all those years nothing much has changed and I am leaving for the same reasons its like watching myself rationalize. Above all it's all about FAITH. This is the best episode for me very inspiring. Hope to see more of this. Thanks very much.
