I came to Canada at the age of 55 with a big family (7). I could attest to my family's success story, with all my kids now earning well. Just came back from one hell of a time from Cancun with my entire family including my daughters-in -laws & my other sons girlfriends.

The younger you are when you move to Canada, the more advantages you have. For instance, arriving at the age of 50 means you have only about 15 years left to work before retirement. The job market in Canada today is highly competitive, unlike 25-30 years ago, so securing a good job with a decent salary can be challenging. Living costs vary by location, but renting a one-bedroom condo in Toronto, for example, costs over $2,000 a month. The initial years will be a period of adjustment, followed likely by purchasing a home, with a typical mortgage amortization period of 25 years, so do the math. However, if you're considering the move at 50 primarily for the benefit of your family and children, it could be worthwhile, though you should be prepared for some hardships and challenges. If you are single and financially secure in the Philippines, you might be better off staying there.

My family and I came to Canada, way back in December 2000 and moved when I was 43 years old. I got tons of experience in a Middle East hospital. I managed to get the same job after a month. It takes a lot of effort and networking to be able to get my first job. Since then I have and still working in a hospital. Ages is not a problem it's about accepting reality and dreaming of having your children the Canadian education they deserve and here we are now getting it for themselves. I am also at my retirement age but I don't think I will go there, as I believe if you enjoy it let it be. Cheers guys.

I went to Canada when I was 43 years old in 2009. I was the principal applicant even though my husband is 4 years younger than me because I gathered more points. I took our moving as a new phase in our lives, leaving a high paying job in exchange for a relaxed and simple life. I found out that stress is not good for my health as I grow old and would want more time with family and friends.

If you are old when you arrive in Canada, can you still buy a house? I think it will be difficult to find a bank that will give you a loan (unless you have a large down payment). Retiring without your own debt free house is not comfortable and you will always be at the mercy of the landlord.
