Hi everyone! Some of you may be having audio problems. It seems that it is due to watching on an android device. If you watch on your laptop/desktop you should be all good! Sorry for the inconvenience, im not sure why it is happening! Has anyone had this happen to them before? Cheers team =)
Are you using stereo mics to record your sound? If so, flip the polarity of one of them, they might be perfectly out of phase. Right now, if they're close to facing each other at equal distance from you (or not facing each other at certain different distances), they could be pickup perfectly opposite information. That can be okay if the right and left channels get played back on separate speakers, but when it's played back mono (like from a smartphone), the exactly opposite signals may cancel each other out to silence. It's probably not this, but this is the coolest thing it could be.
i use the gx85 to film music videos. for the price, if you are not a vlogger, and only stay behind the camera, It's a microscopic powerhouse! I record all my audio externally anyway so its a no-brainer for me.
Sometimes they complain about AF but as a g80 user its not bad .Its not as fast as sony or canon bud its not bad or useless like they say What you guys think of the AF of the g85/g80
Maybe its because i dont use 4k ?? Ive noticed the AF working faster at 1080 than at 4k and its normal i think the processor got to work harder i think
Excellent video bro! Good info! I've owned all of them, except for the G9. I hope to eventually get one though. I sold my G85 and ended up buying the GX85 for photography and I am loving it. I'll have a video on the GX85 soon. I just bought a hand grip for it and it makes a huge difference in my opinion. Cheers!
The GX85 is made SPECIFICALLY as a small, pocketable camera. It's half to ONE FIFTH of the current price of the other cameras. Yet it has virtually the same image quality except possibly in very low light. I therefore think you gave it rather a hard time. It is a stunningly good camera for the price in most lighting situations and it has similar sensor quality to the others. BTW there is no such thing as B roll. It's a pretentious hipster corruption of old 16/35 mm film editing and splicing techniques. All video filming should be "A" roll as every scene in a decent film is important.
I hate when people say b roll. Like we all know your shitty landscape photos and cheesy slow mo videos or your girlfriend are not b roll for some large production. This is literally every RUclips. That being said I don’t mean to hate on this guy haha just need to vent
@@ConCon4444 You are so right mate! Also nobody today would consider the GH5 as the A-cam and the G9 or the G85 as the B-cam. Either two G9's or a G9 and a G85 or two G85's. The stabilization and the autofocus on the GH5 is simply too much behind.
Fair enough! Agree with your comment abut A-roll/B-roll. I suppose its become the way that people on RUclips refer to "secondary" and "primary" footage. But I know what you mean. Thanks for watching!
I'm looking to replace a Go-Pro for my travel videos and I love what the G85 offers for the price. I'm tempted to to go with the G9/Gh5 but I think the bang-for-buck is really unbeatable with the G85 right now and as much as I try to convince myself that I need pro-level gear...I don't : ) The G85 is currently around $800 bundled with a fantastic 12-60 kit lens at reputable camera stores, and I assume further drops/sales are on the horizon when that full frame S1 comes out. Add on a few more goodies and its a pretty sweet 4k filming setup for under $1k!!!
Totally agree mate! It's such good value. One thing I would say is dont expect prices to drop with the S1 and S1R releases...I think Panasonic is keeping the two systems independent of each other in terms of pricing.
I'm glad you put this information up, it's totally helpful. Amazon in the US had the G85 bundled with the 12-60 AND the 45-200 for $899 in December, too bad I missed that one! I've looked at every mid level video-centric camera and it has come down to the G85 or a Sony a6500. The auto-focus on the Sony looks amazing but I think I want a "real" camera in my hand and the Sony looks a bit too compact for my oversized paws.
I see the promo you mean, it's the GX85, not the g85, but an Amazing deal! That's a whole lot of 4k video camera for $600. Is it just me or have quality cameras gotten a whole lot cheaper lately? The industry must be hurting with people opting for their phone cameras instead...
@Michael Putnam I've heard that the 80d does great for video, but no 4k of course. I'm coming from a Nikon d5300, which I bought years ago when I had no intention of doing video. Then I got into making RUclips videos and found a GoPro much easier to use, but now it's time to up my game. Another thing about going with a "value" option over the Gh5/G9 is I don't have to protect it as much. Even if I could afford it, I don't want to have to worry about having so much $$$ in my backpack travelling around down here in Ecuador!
2nd video of yours I stumbled upon, so now subscribed! :) Thinking that G85 might be a good value for money camera to start vlogging my travels for friends and family... if you were to pick two lenses: one for vlogging and another for cinematic footage what would you recommend?
It sounds like one of your audio channels is playing inverted. It's a technique you can use to cancel out certain sounds. Normally you take right or left channel, invert it, and then merge the channels back to mono. It takes out sounds that are common to both channels. It really messes with spacial orientation when playing them through regular stereo speakers!
Thank you for this! I've been trying to figure out what the issue is. I thought that this mic was broken or something. Do you know how I could make it sound normal again in Premiere Pro/Audition?
I'm sure Audition has a method to do this, but I originally did the technique with Audacity, which is a free audio editing program. You can find some tutorials here on RUclips, here is one: ruclips.net/video/JYO7Fj5BORM/видео.html For your situation, you would want to split stereo tracks, invert one of the channels, and then play it back to see if it resolves the issue. It might not be the problem, but it sounds very much like what the audio sounded like when I was testing this technique. The effect isn't quite as noticeable with headphones, so you will want to play it through a set of stereo computer speakers to see if it is still a problem.
@@itsryanwilkes Shit man I apologize, I've been drinking too much box wine with my wife. I thought he wrote GX85. Even dumber still, I have a G85 sitting in my travel pack. I'll see myself out.
Great video! GH5 seems like the option I'll be going for in the future. My G85 is awesome and reliable but I want to upgrade soon for all the features the GH5 packs
I own both the G9 and G85 so am familiar with the Panasonic brand. I thought you did an excellent survey of the four cameras that would be helpful for people to know what to get. Panasonic provides cameras that are often the "jack of all trades" that do an overall great job. Weaknesses might be the smaller micro 4/3rds sensor and subpar video autofocus. Sony has struck gold with the new a7 III and Fuji silver with the X-H1, so those should be considered when buying. But I am a very happy camper with my Panasonic cameras and very pleased with your review.
Thank you Steven! Yes this is true, but I think that auto focus for video is overrated. For me, it takes 2 extra seconds to put on manual focus for vlogging, and with the tap to (manual) focus feature on the Panasonic cameras, manual focus is a breeze. But I still get what you're saying! The A7iii is incredible and the A7Siii is going to be one hell of a camera too!
G9 have also V-LOG and after FW upgrade - 10 bit internal, so it's even closer do GH5, probably only differences are in video modes (GH5) and hi res photo (G9).
What would you get with today's prices? GH4, GX9, GX85 or G85? They are al between the 400-500 euro range (used). I will use them mostly for photography and some videography and i'd like to have slowmotion.
@@itsryanwilkes And which one would the best be video wise? Cuz i also already have Canon 800D (REBEL T7i) next to it, but i'd like to get best of both worlds in one :)
@@1998djmelvin well either the GH4 or G85 would be the best for video. Just depends on if you want in body stabilization or not! I have never owned a GH4, but the G85 has amazing stabilization for video. But GH4 can do up to 100 fps (I think) and G85 can only do up to 60 fps, both in 1080.
@@itsryanwilkes Mmmn okay, thanks for the advice! I think i'm gonna go for the GH4 then since i dont mind using a gimball, or i might wait a bit and get the GH5.
Excellent overview video! I go back and forth between the G85 and G9... if you get the 2.8 12-60 with the G9 it doubles the cost of the G85 kit. It’s a hard decision.
The Path Less Traveled I have been a photographer for years but want to expand into video. So far all my videos i have done were done on my iPhone. My channel is the Reluctant Prepper. I will likely get the G85 as it’s a great deal and will provide a massive upgrade for the money.
Well, it depending on what you re using it for. Many people have been picking up the BMPCC4K as a bcam for their GH5. The GH5 is the only one compatible with log profiles, so if you are doing any kind of intense colour grading then that's your best option.
The price of the G85 is very attractive and I expect the price will go even lower soon. If I can sell the kit lens then I will be getting the G85 body for nearly $600 CAD.
Hi thanks very much for this great in depth and very helpful video. I am planning to buy a panasonic g80 here in the UK or from some where else if its any cheaper and instead of GH5 or GH5S either with native Lumix 12-60 f 3.5-5.6 or 12-35 f2.8 ii or sigma 18-38 f1.8 with speed booster xl .64x. G80 also comes with the same Lumix 12-60 as a kit for little more money which seems good quality and well made with IBIS but would you recommend 12-60 lens for paid work with G80? Could you kindly advice which setup and combination will be good enough for a start to shoot music videos and some events etc in the UK where natural light is always an issue? I am limited in budget hence will prefer G80 + 12-60 or 12-35 f2.8 ii over the others unless really required as well as for its dual IS mode for hand held shooting. GH5 or GH5S would have been any time better (until BMPCC 4K comes out in a few months) due to its 10 bit 422 400 mbps codecs, dual sd cards for back ups specially for paid work as well as for its image quality and colour grading flexibility in the post. Thanks very much again in advance. Cheers.
Hi mate, thanks for watching! If you can't afford a GH5 right now, I would get the G85 and the 12-35 (version 1 or 2, doesn't matter). The 12-60 is a good lense but not good enough for professional work. For my professional work I use the olympus 7-14 f2.8, 12-35 f2.8, voigtlander 17.5 f0.95 and voigtlander 42.5 f0.95.
Hello thanks so much for the quick reply. I had purchased a GH5S just few weeks back with 12-35 f2.8 and 2 super fast 128 gb sd cards from sandisk but returned all of them sealed pack unopened as the whole setup was getting kind of expensive plus I just couldn't justify its price after preordering the upcoming BMPCC 4K for £1170 here in the UK and also I need to buy a top specs imac for long 4k video editing. Have you ever faced any issue with the single sd card slot with your G85/80? Thats my main fear with the G80 as the sd card can fail while shooting for paid work. If not G85 then would you recommend GH5 instead of GH5S as its few hundred pounds less expensive and has IBIS but its not as good in low light hence I was trying to settle for G80 until BMPCC 4K comes out. But if G80's single sd card slot is strong enough then I would prefer it over GH5 etc with 12-35 f2.8 ii. Also kindly recommend some good sd cards for G80 if thats alright. By the way you have got some great pieces of equipments. Thanks again in advance. Cheers.
I wouldn't count on the BMPCC if I were you. There is no doubt going to be some bugs for them to sort out. It looks great on paper but we wont know until its out. In the mean time you could be making money from another camera! I would get the GH5 if I were you. Then you can sell it later if you get a BMPCC and really love it. Ive never had a problem with the SD card slot on the G85. Hope that helps man!
Super helpful! I have a g85 but might upgrade. I do mainly video. Gh5 is slightly more $ and bigger. G9 limited recording video, is that continuous shooting? For g9, what manual controls do you lose shooting at a higher fps video?
Yeah for continuous shooting on the G9 it cuts off at 29:59 recording time. You also loose manual exposure control. You can set th EV compensation but then the camera decides on the iso and aperture. It usually does a pretty good job though. Honestly the G9 is a bloody amazing camera. I just shot a documentary on Mt Kilimanjaro and I used the GH5 and G9 equally.
@@itsryanwilkes the slow mo without sound bothers me tho. I do sometimes use the audio but I guess it's not the end of the world. I read you also lose AF with slow mo? And auto iso, does it adjust if you go from let's say indoors to outdoors?
@@GadgetsGearCoffee you can always shoot in 60fps (in 4K) and still get 40% slow motion with audio recording. Yes it will automatically adjust when you go from dark to light or vice versa. Make sure you set your max iso to 3200. Any higher than that and it's a bit too noisy for me.
Thanks for a great video. You've helped me decide to go for the G85 for now and perhaps consider the GH5 later. Thank you! P.S. I also have problems with the audio on an iPhone 6 with latest iOS, but works fine on PC?!
James Rounce thank you! Glad I could help you out. Yes the audio issue on this video is so strange. I still haven't found the answer haha, I've just stopped using that microphone for future videos.
Great overview bro. Really making me want to go camera shopping. The G85 would really hit the spot for us! Sure is something to try and work towards! - Thomas
Thanks man! Haha you guys are killing it with the G7, probably no need to upgrade at this point! But yeah, the G85 is fantastic - if you can get it on sale I would snatch it up =)
Thanks man! Trying our best 😊 The G7 is an incredible camera and we love the results we get with it. My dream would be to have a G85 for our main camera and then still use the G7 for extra B-roll. Camera dreams 😀👍🏼
Great video, very informative, audio is a little weird lol. Hey, about the 4K60 on the G9, it's full manual right? it's not highspeed/auto like 150/180?
Still on the fence between the G9 and GH5. Will be using the camera for stills and video 50/50. The G9 record time limit is a real bummer but the skin-tone and 6.5 stops IBIS are huge pluses. Been on that fence for months now. Should the Lumix S1/S1r be out before I make up my mind, then it's a 3-way decision. 🙃😎
I know its a tough one! I doubt you would notice much of a difference in IBIS between the two, especially with a dual IS compatible lens. And im pretty sure that the colour science is almost identical between cameras...at least in my experience. If I could only have one I would choose the GH5, but I do about 70/30 video to photo work.
Appreciate your response. I plan on being around 50/50 use. The IBIS would be great for non-IOS lenses. I saw reviews from GH5 users who just picked up the G9 covering skin-tone et.al side-by-side and the difference was significant. So in hoping for a run-and-gun no gimbal camera, still on the fence after considering the size and weight of the Atomos Ninja 5 for the G9. The elusive "perfect" camera (for me), albeit likely very expensive (probably exceeding the cost of owning both the GH5 and G9, just too heavy though), may be the Lumix S1. Right now, not in a hurry as I don't plan to travel this year anyway.😉👍
Yeah if you are 50/50 the G9 is probably the way to go, and you'll save yourself a bit of money at the same time. I saw some really good black friday/cyber monday deals on the G9! They might still be on if you're quick haha!
Yes, there were some good deals. Sadly still not decided. I'll hope by the time I start my travels next year there will be great deals. I've pretty much come to the conclusion the the S1 will be way out of my range. So back on the fence between the G9 and GH5. Appreciate you taking the time to share your valuable time and opinions. Thank you.👍
I can’t hear you so sorry if I’m asking a question you already answered but I’m stuck between the g9 and gh5. I want to do phot and video but I really want to focus on video. I’m a little nervous about the gh5 because I’ve never really manual focused before. I have a canon 77d I could use for pics but would rather have just one camera. It’s good but I want the ibis and 180fps on occasion. Thanks
Hi Chelsey, thanks for your question. I would day the GH5 would be great for you. After the last couple of firmware updates the auto focus is actually pretty good. So no need to worry about manual focusing =)
Hello sir... I'm from India and professionally a Pharmacologist but in love with Streetphotography. Sir would you recommend G95 for Streetphotography ? How many still shots one can take with a full charge ? I don't shoot videos at all. Need your guidance 🙏 coz I'm planning for G95.
I already own a G85 since last August and I love it. I feel like 60 fps @1080p is a bit restrictive but I don't know if I want to double the expenses to get the G9. Right now I sold my Pana 25 1.7 to buy the Sigma 16 1.4 DC DN and I fell in love with the lens. Right now I have a 2 lenses (+1 vintage | Canon 50 1.8 FD) setup. The Lumix 12-60 3.5-5.6 and the Sigma 16 1.4, do you think that (for travel) I'd be better to sell the 12-60 to buy the 12-35 or to go for the Lumix 7-14 (or the Leica 8-18 2.8-4). The only thing I don't like of the 7-14 is that it's not weather sealed, differently from the Sigma & Lumix lenses I own. What would you do if you were me?
The upgrade to the G9 wont be worth it if you're wanting good slow mo, because you cant fully control the settings manually in the high frame rates in the G9. You've gotta go with the GH5 for that! Okay, I would sell the 12-60 and save for the 12-35 f2.8. Even the version 1 is amazing and weather sealed (I have the version 1). Then you have the 12-35, sigma 16 prime and your canon 50mm. That's a great 3 lens combo! The next thing I would look at getting after that would be the ultra wide (8-18) OR the 35-100 f2.8 DEPENDING on what kind of stuff you are shooting. The ultra wide lenses are awesome for vlogging but can be limiting for b-roll/detail shots. Let me know if you have any other questions =)
The Path Less Traveled I thought of the 12-35 v2 is the best choice because of IBIS. There is no DUAL IS w/ version 1, isn't it? Thank you for answering
The Path Less Traveled I know that the v1 has it but it doesn't combine the ibis with the lens stabilisation. Dual IS II works only with new lenses. Like the two 12-60, the v2, 35-100 v2 etc
Ohhh right, sorry mate I misread that. Yes you are right. What I meant to say was that people aren't seeing much of a difference between dual is 1 and dual is 2. It just depends on how much you're willing to spend =) I know that my 12-35 v1 produces very smooth shots with my GH5 AND G85.
I shoot on the GH5 and considering the G80/85. I want to use this as my b-cam. How do you feel about the missing headphone monitoring output? There is a mic input right?
Yes there is a mic input on the G85. If you need to monitor audio with the G85 there is a workaround that you can use with the HDMI output. There are a couple youtube videos that describe it in detail. Overall I think its a great bcam for the GH5.
What's your opinion on G85 vs GX9? I wanna do both stills and video, is the megapixel difference going to be noticeable for stills? And are the video capabilities any different? I know they both don't have low pass filters and are generally priced the same, pretty confused which to get :/
If you are printing your photos, the difference may be noticeable in larger prints, but for web/digital useage I dont think you'll be able to tell the difference! The flip out screen on the GX85 is definitely a bonus if you are doing a lot of video/vlogging. I also think the ergonomics of the G85 are better. With the GX9 you would probably have to purchase a grip attachment to make it feel more solid in your hand (Panasonic makes a specific one!). Also G85 is weather sealed and the GX9 isnt! Thats a big deal for me. I would go with the G85 because the better photo features on the GX9 don't matter much to me, and its not weather sealed =)
I'd say the g85 needs more respect. its not just a vlogging camera. it can take incredible pics.. as always, its down to the camera person ofcourse! no need to ungrade sensors..
Hello Dude, great video here. I have no doubt that GH5 and G85 is perfect for my travel videos etc. But would you recommend GH5 for wedding photography or better to stick with full frame for weddings? Take care and keep grinding.
DGisHERE hey mate! Thank you for your comment. Ooo that is a hard one. I think it depends on a couple of things. First of all how much you like to rely on autofocus. If you are okay with manual focus then a GH5 or GH5S can work just fine! Get some voigtlander lenses or speedbooster! Check out the channel "White in Revery". They are a wedding videography couple who shoot on the GH5. The other main consideration is low light performance. The GH5S is a beast, but it would require a gimbal for smooth movement. I have considered getting an A7iii just to see what all the fuss is about! I guess the moral of the story is that you can make it work with a GH5. Many people make amazing wedding videos with it. It is still the best bang for buck video focused camera for run and gun shooting. But is it better than a 1DX mkii? Probably not.
The Path Less Traveled thanks for your fast reply but I was asking about wedding photography not wedding videos. Can the gh5 do a great job photographing a wedding?
Haha right! My bad. I think it could do the job just fine with the right lenses. I would be looking at the Olympus PRO lenses. The 17mm f1.2 and 25mm f1.2 are some of the best lenses out there for any system. Also the Panasonic Nocticron is pretty legendary.
What mic are you using to record your voice? Your mic or something you did in post production is causing your voice recording to become out of phase, so when people play the video on a mono device with one speaker like a phone they can't hear it at all.
Hi Brian, thanks a lot for your thoughts. I thought this might be the case. I used an Azden sgm 250 to record this, it's a shotgun xlr mic. Any thoughts on how to possibly fix it?
Thanks for the overview! After some research it boils down to the GX85 or G85 for me as an affordable option. This helped to understand the difference in usability. One question: You mentioned shooting at 24 fps - I thought you can also shoot 30 (only in mp4 container?). I'd be curious why anyone would still want to shoot 24 instead of 30 since the majority of screens are 60 fps now?
No worries mate! We still shoot at 24fps because it gives the most "film-like" motion blur. When you shoot at 30fps it gives it more of a soap opera feel. Some enjoy that kind of look, but I always edit in a 24fps timeline =)
Ah interesting, thanks! When I first started using SVP to watching and upscale movies from 24 to 60 or 96 fps on my monitor I definitely had that feeling. But it's not really a quality of the movie, it's a learned association. By now I don't have that association at all, it just looks better. So I figure the slightly out of sync motion of 24 vs 30 has a similar effect, it is technically more artificial but reminds us of typical movies.
It's not as good as the GH5 but it's close! The main issue is that it auto exposes the image so you dont have full control over the settings. In good light you probably couldn't tell the difference between it and the GH5
The Path Less Traveled thanks for that detailed answer, I'm just looking forward buying a gh5 or g9 because I got a gx85 and i just miss some cool slow mo... and I can't decide which is my way to go.
Frozn Fire that's a hard decision! But I suppose the GH5 would be more suitable if you are doing a lot of video work or freelancing as a videographer. The G9 is a close second though, and it's cheaper. I also prefer the feel and the ergonomics of the GH5. They are both fantastic...but the buttons on the G9 are very soft and quite sensitive to touch (so can be accidentally pressed) whereas you really have to press the GH5 buttons to get a response.
The Path Less Traveled yeah I guess I will go with the gh5, because of like the 10 bit record and the higher quality with 400mb records... and I mainly use the screen to watch my stuff and it should be better than on the g9. But if g9 gets the videofeatures from the gh5... that would change all.
i am unsure between g95 or gh5 what would you recommend to me both cameras are good for filming for RUclips with V-log, how is the autofocus? I can not decide. And the G95 is 8Bit and the gh5 10 bit is that a big difference/role? Would like to make a video like for example short films ruclips.net/video/ZV5x4FLbXKA/видео.html....the G95/G91 is just as good as the Gh5 and how is the autofocus from the two cameras??I can make a video with the g85, just like on the link I attached in the text
I'm very aware. This is an old video and it hasn't happened since. I still dont know what went wrong till this day. Hope it helped you even though it sucks to listen to.
@@itsryanwilkes I just finished watching your video anyway. Thank you for the input.. I think I'm going to go with the G85. I've been watching several videos like this and I've made up my mind. I'll be buying it today. Take it easy!
Hey Jeff, sorry about that. Can't figure out why some people can't hear it. Any ideas why it might be happening? It might be only having problems on android devices.
Yeah I've never come across this issue before and it seems to only be affecting androids! Dang it. I'll look into a solution for the next video. Cheers man
Yes if you read the other comments that has been established...not sure why it happened in this video but it did. Try listening on another device if possible.
That's bizzare! Are you on mobile or desktop? This isn't the first time that someone has said this on one of my videos so I'm trying to figure out what's going on. Most people can hear it fine but there are a few who can't. Sorry about that man!
I can hear you but the sound is a bit muffled with a lot of background noise. The background music doesn't help. Not my audio settings or out of date flash, other sounds and videos are fine.
Yep I'm aware of the background noise. It's the best I could do at the time. I can't film at home and this cafe in town let me film there so I made the most of it.
Too much focus on the video portions, what about photography? IDGAF about videography really, you basically skipped out on all the photography portions of the cameras. You should have stated that upfront that you were primarily focused on videography, so I didn't have to waste 13m of my time...
I just take photos, mostly with 17mm 25mm and 45mm f1.8 primes. Its briliant for street with the Olympus 17mm f1.8. If nature rambling I also have a 14-140mm zoom but really prefer to use the 45mm with a x2 digital zoom. Hope you get a loaner. For me this was an upgrade from my lovely old GX7 and I love it ;-)
I have the extension grip on order for the 14-140mm, it hasnt surfaced yet in the UK. I love voightlander and have the 28mm f2 Ultron on my Leica M3 and T. When I use teh 45mm lens I also take an Olympus TG-3 in a back pocket to cover my low end zoom needs. I cannot believe how good the Panasonic x2 zoom is and it gives me 180mm equivalent for zoo animals etc. My Pani 25mm similarly is great for walkabout but x2 gives me 100mm equivalent for ducks. I have the digital zoom on the bottom back function button ;-)

TheSmeagol630 it's probably exactly that because you can hear it perfectly with headphones

Great choice man, you can't go wrong with that camera!
very good choice.
Sometimes they complain about AF but as a g80 user its not bad .Its not as fast as sony or canon bud its not bad or useless like they say
What you guys think of the AF of the g85/g80
Maybe its because i dont use 4k ??
Ive noticed the AF working faster at 1080 than at 4k and its normal i think the processor got to work harder i think
Excellent video bro! Good info! I've owned all of them, except for the G9. I hope to eventually get one though. I sold my G85 and ended up buying the GX85 for photography and I am loving it. I'll have a video on the GX85 soon. I just bought a hand grip for it and it makes a huge difference in my opinion. Cheers!
Thanks Marlon! Oh that's great to hear! You're right - I think a hand grip would really help out the GX85. Cheers man!
MarlonPTY which hand grip?Thanks!
Georgios Lachanas I bought the Panasonic DMW-HGR2 hand grip. I uploaded a video on it on my channel if you want to check it out.
do you have a link to the handgrip?
The GX85 is made SPECIFICALLY as a small, pocketable camera. It's half to ONE FIFTH of the current price of the other cameras. Yet it has virtually the same image quality except possibly in very low light. I therefore think you gave it rather a hard time. It is a stunningly good camera for the price in most lighting situations and it has similar sensor quality to the others. BTW there is no such thing as B roll. It's a pretentious hipster corruption of old 16/35 mm film editing and splicing techniques. All video filming should be "A" roll as every scene in a decent film is important.
Ya it is a little beast
Problem z dźwiękiem :(
Sound problem :(
I'm looking to replace a Go-Pro for my travel videos and I love what the G85 offers for the price.
Thinking that G85 might be a good value for money camera to start vlogging my travels for friends and family... if you were to pick two lenses: one for vlogging and another for cinematic footage what would you recommend?
You can find some tutorials here on RUclips, here is one: ruclips.net/video/JYO7Fj5BORM/видео.html
For your situation, you would want to split stereo tracks, invert one of the channels, and then play it back to see if it resolves the issue. It might not be the problem, but it sounds very much like what the audio sounded like when I was testing this technique. The effect isn't quite as noticeable with headphones, so you will want to play it through a set of stereo computer speakers to see if it is still a problem.
Thanks a lot mate! I will try this out
Thanks for clearing up. I thought my device is having problem.👍
Great video! Thank you for reviewing all four of these cameras. When you kiss the G85, I was thinking that must be a really good camera.
Haha thanks! I love that little guy
Seems like the G85 has the most bang for your buck for features and practical shooting.
I would agree with that.
Unless you shoot video. No mic input has ruined that camera for most people.
It has a mic input mate.
@@itsryanwilkes Shit man I apologize, I've been drinking too much box wine with my wife. I thought he wrote GX85. Even dumber still, I have a G85 sitting in my travel pack. I'll see myself out.
Hahah! All good mate, I feel you. I actually thought that may have been what you meant. Anyway I do agree with you!
love the information on the cameras Ryan, keep it up!
Thanks bro!! Will do =)
Great video! GH5 seems like the option I'll be going for in the future. My G85 is awesome and reliable but I want to upgrade soon for all the features the GH5 packs
Thanks man! I totally agree. I was in the same boat as you about 7 months ago and that's why I upgraded to the GH5. You will love having both!
I am an owner of the panasonic g85 and I am looking forward to upgrade to the GH5 because of the 10Bit 400mbps recording.
Nice! It is totally worth the upgrade!
Very true! Going to do an updated G9 vs GH5 video in the next month or so.
What would you get with today's prices? GH4, GX9, GX85 or G85? They are al between the 400-500 euro range (used). I will use them mostly for photography and some videography and i'd like to have slowmotion.
If you're going mostly for photography then I would probably get the GX9.
If you can wait and save a bit more the GH5 is worth every penny!!
With the CineLike D V hack I would now add the LX10 and LX100 to the mix
Those are pretty cool cameras. Major downside for me would be not having the option to change lenses.
Nice vid man. Keep it up.
Thanks mate!
Great comparison video. New subscriber!
Thank you! I appreciate that =)
Excellent overview video! I go back and forth between the G85 and G9... if you get the 2.8 12-60 with the G9 it doubles the cost of the G85 kit. It’s a hard decision.
That is a hard choice! Are you more video or photo focused? You really can't go wrong with the G85! The price is right and performance is great
The Path Less Traveled I have been a photographer for years but want to expand into video. So far all my videos i have done were done on my iPhone. My channel is the Reluctant Prepper. I will likely get the G85 as it’s a great deal and will provide a massive upgrade for the money.
Let's not forget the size... G9 is huge compared.
True, it is larger but for all the features it is well worth the upgrade in my opinion...especially at the current prices.
@@itsryanwilkes I upgraded ;) g9 time.
Nice one! I have the gx85 and love it but am wondering-would the gx85 lenses work on the other three? Maybe a dumb question since they’re all m43.
Yes it will work even with Olympus, as long as it's micro 4/3
Hey Greg, yes the lenses will work on all of the cameras in this video.
Which one should I pick as B-camera for BMPCC4K?
Well, it depending on what you re using it for. Many people have been picking up the BMPCC4K as a bcam for their GH5. The GH5 is the only one compatible with log profiles, so if you are doing any kind of intense colour grading then that's your best option.
The price of the G85 is very attractive and I expect the price will go even lower soon. If I can sell the kit lens then I will be getting the G85 body for nearly $600 CAD.
I agree! It's a great little camera. I still have mine even though I have a GH5 and G9.
Thanks very much again mate.
Sorry last one please.
Would you prefer GH5 over the GH5S?
Very much appreciate it.
Regards.
Thanks for doing this video.
No problem!
@@GadgetsGearCoffee and yes there is no autofocus in high frame rate shooting. That's the same as the GH5.
@@GadgetsGearCoffee and yes there is no autofocus in high frame rate shooting. That's the same as the GH5.
I still haven't found the answer haha, I've just stopped using that microphone for future videos.
can you use the same lenses on the GH5 with G85? also does G85 connect to your phone?
Yes they use the same lenses, and yes both can connect to your phone through the Panasonic imaging app.
Hi there, thanks! I know, sorry about the audio. Future videos will be much better =) yes, 4K 60 in the G9 has fully manual control
@kenneth saez no
Still on the fence between the G9 and GH5.
Thank you.👍
Any time mate! I'm hoping the S1 isn't too pricey haha but we'll just have to wait and see =)
I can’t hear you so sorry if I’m asking a question you already answered but I’m stuck between the g9 and gh5.
If that were me at 3:49: 4 cameras just went flying.
Hahaha thank god I didn't do that
Hey, the GX85 has a flash too. I didn't know it at first either, to be honest.
Ah you're totally right! Thanks for picking that up.
They both have dual IS actually. I've seen tests comparing them and you can't tell the difference even though the v2 is "Slightly improved"
Awesome channel...
Thank you =)
considering a g85 for my first camera
Great choice!
Explorastory Films I know that the G7 did not show video on external display when recording. Do you know if the G85 can do that?
@@Nqrgaard Yes I believe it can. I would double check with Panasonic though.
The Path Less Traveled Thanks for your input :D Appreciate it a lot
I'd say the g85 needs more respect. its not just a vlogging camera. it can take incredible pics.. as always, its down to the camera person ofcourse! no need to ungrade sensors..
Its a really great camera!
Sadly, the audio track of this video has phase cancellation issues (it is not mono-compatible)
Are you using an XLR to 3.5mm adapter to plug the mic into a camera? If so, it's most likely the adapter causing the issue.
Yes I have been using an adapter like that! I'll have to do some tests to see if that's the case. Thanks so much for bringing that up man.
No problem! You might have better luck with a different adapter or recording your audio onto your computer instead of through the camera.
Man, your video was great! It helped me a lot but, next time try to get better audio... that was the only downside....
Thank you Rodrigo! Glad it helped you. And thank you for the feedback 🤙🏽
Why is the audio so screwed up?
For now 08/02/2019, you still suggest G85 over G9?
No I dont think so. At the current prices I would definitely get a G9 or G95
@@itsryanwilkes And between a G95 and G9 which is better ? I would like to make travel vlogs and I need a good AF 🤔
G9 is better! Which did you end up going with?
Dejay Rezme you're exactly right!
do u know how the quality of the 180fps on the g9 is, compared to the gh5? thanks for an answer and cool vid keep it up
It's not as good as the GH5 but it's close!
I liked the analogy b/w G7 and GX85!
Thanks!
i am unsure between g95 or gh5 what would you recommend to me both cameras are good for filming for RUclips with V-log, how is the autofocus? I can not decide. And the G95 is 8Bit and the gh5 10 bit is that a big difference/role? Would like to make a video like for example short films ruclips.net/video/ZV5x4FLbXKA/видео.html....the G95/G91 is just as good as the Gh5 and how is the autofocus from the two cameras??I can make a video with the g85, just like on the link I attached in the text
You need to work on audio bro. You can get a $100 mic and it will help so much! So much background noise
Yeeep, this was a long time ago and things have been improved since then. Thanks for the feedback.
Great content, but you need to fix your audio.
The audio.... dude.. you gotta do something about that. It made it so hard to get through this video.
Enjoy it!
Video is broken! Just hear music no voice
Plesse read the other comments regarding this issue.
The background noise was way to distracting for me.
Sorry to hear that Nikki. Have a wonderful day.
Hmm, cant seem to hear anything.
Hey Jeff, sorry about that. Can't figure out why some people can't hear it. Any ideas why it might be happening? It might be only having problems on android devices.
The Path Less Traveled I am able to hear the audio 9n my macbook, but not on my android. Interesting
Yeah I've never come across this issue before and it seems to only be affecting androids! Dang it. I'll look into a solution for the next video. Cheers man
The Path Less Traveled great review though! 😁
Your audio is horrible from the get go. Made me not want to watch
Thanks for the feedback. I had microphone troubles on that day.
The Path Less Traveled I still watched though lol
Problems no sound (voice)....
Yes if you read the other comments that has been established...not sure why it happened in this video but it did. Try listening on another device if possible.
Can't hear a thing
That's bizzare! Are you on mobile or desktop? This isn't the first time that someone has said this on one of my videos so I'm trying to figure out what's going on. Most people can hear it fine but there are a few who can't. Sorry about that man!
The Path Less Traveled I'm on mobile. Tried my tablet as well, same issue.
Sorry about that man. It must be something with your audio settings. Maybe make sure your flash is updated to the latest version?
I can hear you but the sound is a bit muffled with a lot of background noise. The background music doesn't help.
Not my audio settings or out of date flash, other sounds and videos are fine.
Yep I'm aware of the background noise. It's the best I could do at the time. I can't film at home and this cafe in town let me film there so I made the most of it.
horrible sound
Great comment, very thoughtful.
Too much focus on the video portions, what about photography? IDGAF about videography really, you basically skipped out on all the photography portions of the cameras. You should have stated that upfront that you were primarily focused on videography, so I didn't have to waste 13m of my time...
Yeah you're right, I probably should have stated that. I do use these cameras a lot from photography though. Can I answer any questions for you?
bro, buy a mic
Bro, if you would have taken a moment and read some of the other comments you would understand why the audio is awful in this video.
Your audio is in my throat.
I know. It's awful. I've learned since then.
Pffft none of them, I have the new GX9 ;-)
Haha! Maybe Panasonic NZ will send me one to test out =) I've heard great things about it though. Do you use it for photo or video or both?
I just take photos, mostly with 17mm 25mm and 45mm f1.8 primes. Its briliant for street with the Olympus 17mm f1.8. If nature rambling I also have a 14-140mm zoom but really prefer to use the 45mm with a x2 digital zoom. Hope you get a loaner. For me this was an upgrade from my lovely old GX7 and I love it ;-)
Ahh nice! I love those focal lengths too. I've got the voigtlander 42.5 and 17.5, and the 14-140 as my telephoto zoom.
The zoom feature is awesome hey!? I use it all the time for video as well.
