I love the amount of abilities Heisei Mothra has, especially the antenna rays & lightning arcs that I wish she had kept in subsequent films along with the venomous powder. Her wing patterns are also my favorite here, though I prefer the wing texture from Tokyo S.O.S that gave her a wider range of motion. Battra is also a gem! I hope he returns in a future film along with Mothra. (I'm also so happy they didn't use that MechaMothra idea, I think it'd kill the divine moth inspiration >.>)

0:55 Aha, I love the idea of Mechani-Kong vs Godzilla!
That seems like such a nice way to make a new match-up we've never seen before, while not actually adding a totally new kaiju into the setting.
While also serving to blend a sort of rematch of Godzilla vs both Kong and Mechagodzilla at the same time.

One my favorite films of the Heisei series! For pure non-stop monster action this movie can't be beat. Plus the design of Battra (especially the larval form) is great.

I personally thought it would have been interesting if Miki was made into Battra's herald thanks to him connecting to her telepathically. That way, there would be more of a reason for Miki to be there other than as a walking Godzilla alarm.

Not my favorite of the Heisei series but I do enjoy the Battra larva's design and the overall film is still enjoyable, especially for those who appreciate a more fantasy tone to their Kaiju eiga. Great work man, loving watching these again to see if I can notice what has been added or edited.

You know. I look forward to Godzilla and the Titans on AppleTV. However I hope Toho makes more movies too one day.
Personally I would love it if they either re-start the series in the Showa series or follow marvels lead and link all the movies together. Can you image a movie called “Gigan” then have like a deleted scene of Manda showing up or something like that? The Showa series basically was pretty much a Marvel series with the continuity before it was even a thing. I believe the Universal Horror Classics was the first franchise to develop a continuity concept. Will see…

I really have a nostalgic soft spot for this movie and still get a lot of enjoyment from this one. It has flaws such as a very heavy handed message about earth pollution and maybe at times being a little too much like Mothra, and Mothra vs Godzilla. That being said I found the movie to be a lot of fun, Battra is a cool monster (and in general I like the idea of a "dark version" of mothra) the human characters are actually fairly good and the score is seriously one of Ifukube's best.

Hey, how's it going? Just found your channel and I've been binge watching everything for about a week. This is awesome. I got hooked back in the late 60's early 70's with Ultraman shows every day and I saw Godzilla vs. Hedora in the theater when it came out and all the movies on a Saturday monster movie show they had in Cleveland on the UHF tv.. Anyway... you're right it's hard to find anyone to share it with. Most everyone says they love Godzilla, but no, not like I do, y'know? I want to know every ;little factoid detail. I like that I'm pissed about continuity or canon mistakes! :-) So anyway, thanks for all this research work you've done here. I'm being greatly entertained. Best line so far was in this video with "Godzilla just comes in and fucks it all up. I'm the badguy!" hahahaha

Finally got to see it when TriStar released the VCR in 1998. 2nd best Heisei film. Big improvement over Mech-G v.s. Battra looks great. The underwater battle is fantastic. Godzilla swam through a lava river and comes out of a volcano. Final is great too. Sony/TriStar treat it's American G-fans like unwanted stepchildren, still don't have a widescreen Japanese version.

I’ve never been in the “shut your brain off” crowd. It’s kinda hard to just enjoy the monster fights because usually humans are like 80% of these movies and the fights make up the rest. Kinda hard to “just enjoy the fights” when the fights don’t happen all the often lol. I think if people really looked, they’d notice a correlation between the most beloved Godzilla movies also having generally well-liked characters.
Sometimes I think people confuse “good characters” with “Oscar-worthy performances and writing”. Characters don’t need to be amazingly well-written or terribly deep to be interesting.
“Who watches Godzilla movies for the characters?” they ask. Well, almost no one really. However, once again, I’m with them for 80% of the film so I’d rather it be an enjoyable time than a dull experience. Also…Godzilla stories usually relate to humanity as a whole, so why does everyone act like the humans should be treated as afterthoughts?

    • @Kaiju-bm4ts
      @Kaiju-bm4ts 9 месяцев назад

Uh...dude....there's something called "fast forwarding" if you're watching these movies on a device with that option which in most cases, is the exact case for most fans who watch these films on streaming or on DVD/blu ray players. All of which have that option. You can watch just for the fights and skip the human stuff, many fans (including myself) did so for many movies as kids whenever we had that option.
Only times godzilla fans do turn their brains off is when the stories absolutely suck and there's nothing redeeming about them but the action is still good. Everyone treats the humans as afterthoughts because they aren't the main stars or attractions, the monsters are.
In regards to the heisei era, the human characters were mostly alright but not all entries were that interesting in regards to the human stories, the heisei gamera trilogy on the other hand....yeah sort of beats out heisei godzilla in the human story department.

Thanks for pointing out the questionable environmental message in this movie. I did a list several years ago of my least favorite Godzilla movies and this was on it partly because of that. Everything that happened was because of the meteor hitting Earth, AND there isn't any actual environmental damage shown, and yet they keep saying that somehow everything that is happening is humanity's fault for not protecting the environment, for some reason. I know it was the 90's and this was the big thing then, but not only was this absurdly heavy handed, but just like Godzilla's role, it doesn't fit.

I'm always amazed that they typically only have 1 single for lack of a better term "hero suit" for the Kaiju? Any American Film production would have at least 6 suits made for each movie. Not to mention damaged or special purpose variants. And just watching that news story about the stolen suit explains why. The BioGoji suit cost $39,000 to make. That's less cost than a single days delayed production. Better to have a backup.

#2 - I couldn't get into this one quite as much. The human actors were pretty good. Mothra looked ridiculous. She looked like a patchwork of 70's shag carpet.
#3 - The "Godzilla Girls" weren't the most fetching, although still fine.
#4 - It seemed the sizes of Mothra and Battra kept changing.
#5 - Not a fan of the silly and blatant Indiana Jones rip-off...unless I accept it as a silly homage. :)
#6 - Ooo! I LOVE the idea of gothic twins for Battra!!!

I actually think Godzilla being the dark horse character in this movie is kind'a important to the metaphor he's always represented. Goji isn't natural. He's a direct result of humans screwing things up - basically karma incarnate. And as Goji vs Ghidorah pointed out, he's basically inevitable. Somehow he always gets created, and even the futurians attempts to stop his creation end up being a self fulfilling prophecy that leads to his creation. Basically man will always find a way to screw up enough to create their own demise. Mothra and Battra, meanwhile, are supposed to be these natural ying/yang deities that preserve the natural balance between civilization and nature and they periodically have to go at it to reestablish the balance and then both go back to sleep till they're reincarnated again. So in the movie they both wake up to start the cycle over again, as civilization is once again threatening nature, and their deific powers attract Goji's attention. So they're trying to have this divinely ordained battle for the balance of the world, and then suddenly here comes this giant nuclear dinosaur, which is the biggest travesty of human interference, and he just starts stomping on both of them for entering his territory. So they're like "who the hell invited this guy?" and have to team up to kick his giant scaly tail. Which doesn't work cause he's Goji, so they settle for tossing him back into the ocean from whence he came, which always seems to cool him off.

Very confused film. G unit didn’t know why he was on set. “Who has my call sheet? Where are my pink pages? Someone get me an espresso with krill sprinkles!
