You wake up in a hospital you're told that you have suffered a stroke the news is devastating, you are in denial, you search for reasons that what you have been told by doctors and nurses must be a mistake…after all you're too young, only older people have strokes! Unfortunately statistically the chance of having a stroke under the age of 40 is rising. Roughly 30 percent of stroke survivers will experience problems with speech. Broca's aphasia is arguably an almost impossibly cruel twist of nature, leaving your intellect intact but depriving you the ability to talk with friends and the people you love, the isolation you feel is brutal... your world has been turned upside down. However, It's humbling to watch the diary made by Sarah especially when seeing her remarkable courage in facing this condition head on and making such amazing progress. Surely Sarah’s video diary has, and will continue to provide hope and inspiration for people living with aphasia.

Just found you Sarah on youtube. Impressive recovery I have to say! I had aphasia as well and after many years I noticed my speech getting slightly more fluent so it's not the case that all the recovery is done in the first year.

Never give up Sarah Scott. It took me 10 years to reach the point I could begin talking to people again. Mine is Anomic Aphasia from being knocked unconscious in a car accident. Not as serious as yours but shows heavily in my writing. Our brains are marvelous and I have had many little victories along the way. You are much braver than I as I could not make a video. Keep going, never give up! You give hope to many

I think the journey you've taken many of us through has been incredible, I've been studying neuropsychology this year and I think for Brocas Aphasia, you've been incredible for my learning which I'm so grateful for.
I'm wondering if you can answer a quick question, are the pauses in your speech where you look as if you're thinking about what to say, as a result of Brocas, or as a result of simply forgetting the word (tip-of-the-tongue forgetfulness)?
And how was this journey for you? In terms of motivation, I presume there have been times it's felt a bit much, how did you get through it?
Again, you have been incredible and I cannot thank you enough. Keep safe and take care.

Is the fatigue a result of the stroke? If so there may be medication she'd find very helpful, methylphenidate perhaps? It's used primarily for ADHD and narcolepsy but don't be put off by the bad reputation drugs of that kind sometimes get, they can be incredibly useful where there's a therapeutic need and generally are very well tolerated by most people. Look into modafinil also!

Fish oil and coconut oil causes brain cell regenerator per army and sago mine disas ter victim. I've had aphasia. Multiple strokes, one couldn'tt understand English. Omce could had to stand up and learned to walk again. I could only crawl and stumbling. Try to walk 20 to 40 minutes a day..it releases BDNF..a brain factor. Patience. Brain rereginerating is slow but I've been there several times .

One should perhaps tread with caution when it comes to oils (all oils) and supplements:
"I experienced iron overload (excessively high ferritin levels) after taking Cod Liver Oil (Vitacost brand) for several months. I have an acquaintance who experienced the exact same problem (different brand), with skyrocketing ferritin levels after taking Cod Liver Oil. After discontinuing use, both of us returned to normal iron/ferritin levels within 1 month. High iron levels can lead to deadly bacterial infections. We both were hospitalized with bacterial infections (separate occasions) during our time on Cod Liver Oil. Looking back now it all makes sense.
A case study needs to be presented regarding the danger of Cod Liver Oil on iron overload. Do NOT rely on iron serum levels to determine your total iron status. Mine were normal several times, even when my ferritin was abnormal. Doctors will only check iron serum, unless you specifically request ferritin. You MUST test ferritin levels if you are taking Cod Liver Oil. I suspect it is related to the high levels of preformed vitamin A found in Cod Liver Oil.
Please add to this post if you have experienced something similar as I want to find more possible cases so we can raise awareness as to the potential iron overload dangers of Cod Liver Oil." - E Nate (comment on Amazon)

@@DorsetRadio where’s your doctor degree? Where’s the scientific proof? Offer those and I might consider what I believe to be a bogus claim.

    • @DorsetRadio
      @DorsetRadio 2 года назад

@@ellaelliott4415 and/or @debbi ramsey Hello, how are you. You may be right about the fish-oil benefits-provided they are prescribed appropriately. Still asking you (and/or debbi ramsey) to signpost us to your source of evidence about the claim, please? Various claims are made around the world about various substance benefits. From the alleged cognitive performance improving benefits of fish oil (e.g. Durham countywide fish-oil "trial" with about 3000 GCSE pupil participants) to the allegedly aphrodisiac properties of rhino-horn (see links below). Unfortunately the results (e.g. Birmingham University, British Medical Journal) did not confirm the fish-oil boosting effect hypothesis. Which is why I asked whether you may have access to some evidence indeed confirming otherwise, for stroke patients, please. Whose dietary needs are attended to in Acute Stroke Units (acute NHS hospitals) by specialized clinicians and dietitians who up to last year at least, would not confirm the fish-hypothesis.
The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) does not seem to confirm the fish oil or supplements hypothesis either.
Maybe in research it's helpful to keep an open mind:
      1) A statement of expectation or prediction that has been tested by research is also affected by the methodology used. A different methodology could have yielded different results if the study was undertaken by another research group.
Hence, RCTs and systematic reviews offer much stronger evidence and are used by NICE
      2) The value the fish supplement market (e.g. fish-oil for Omega 3etc.) keeps rising, i.e. from $1.4 billion in 2018 to $5.58 billion in 2020 (see links), more and more people buy fish oil and relevant products. And where there is a market, there is also marketing - they could have us believe anything so as to buy their products; from cod-liver-oil in the past, to fish oil tablets nowadays.
      3) Physiological reserves in younger people affected by stroke are much higher than those of older people, hence the rate of recovery among stroke patients is proportionally higher.
