    I have done this mod on my 2nd gen Tacoma, but Toyota replaced the secondary airinjection under warranty, I just thought I'd share that i use and cap off a spray can,I found that the cap of the armor all tire foam cleaner spray fits best over the filter,and helps protect the filter from mud splashing on to the filter 👍

    K&N part# 62-1370 was the part I bought for my 2012 Toyota Tacoma DCLB. I experienced the same issue when I clicked the link in the description. My air pump and valves were replaced twice. The first time I did myself because Toyota at the time said it wasn’t a high enough reported incident. Forward three years later I get a letter from Toyota stating a recall on the air pump and valves. Air pump and looks exactly the same as the first one. I recommend keeping the OEM parts to put back on for smog checks.

  • @BigPinger

    4:10 yes the foam filter breaking up can cause damage. The foam blows its way down into the check valves that let the air flow into the exhaust system and can either block them closed (check engine light and trac light + error code P2441) or get them stuck closed (I believe P2440ish?) Regardless, blocked closed isn't too big of a problem, but if they get blocked open then your engine can blow hot exhaust back up through the secondary air system and burn it all up.

      As long as the filter is kept clean and oiled it will keep out any particles that could effect your truck. Also the whole point of this mod is to keep the filter for deteriorating and getting sucked up through your pump into your engine. The secondary air pump only comes on for mear minutes during start up and that is all. It is just used to improve emissions.

      No, it doesn't. It only saves you if when the filter falls apart, it doesn't mess up your intake or injectors. The secondary air pump is only good for emissions on startups. And to remove it, you will need a 200$ part to keep you check engine light off

      Sorry guess I should have explained better. If you are covered by there warranty then all it will save is up to a week of being without your truck. If you are past that then. The sponge filter inside the pump over time breaks down and gets sucked into the head. It can cause alot of problems. IE removing the intake and heads for a clean.

      @vikingveteran  2 года назад

      The only thing I can say to check since it has the new frame is when you test drive it. Make sure you pop it in 4x4 and check that it is smooth. I know multiple people with tacomas with over 500k miles and the engine still runs like new. But matinance was always kept up with. So right after your drive just check the oil and make sure it doesn't look foamy. If you do get it change ALL the fluids unless he has receipts that he changed them.

    • @vikingveteran

      No need to be sorry. The way it saves you money is. If the original filter in the secondary air pump falls apart. It is going to get sucked up through the pump destroying it. Then traveling into you engine. This will not save on anything. But is just a preventative measure you take to save on unnecessary damages due to a cheap filter. Yes your 06 tacoma could use this.
