Phil always describes himself as "a drummer who sings a little". He began as a drummer for Genesis and then became lead singer when Peter Gabriel moved on to do solo work. He became really famous after that.
The gentleman with the long white hair and beard is the fantastic Lee Sklar, who, in his over 50 years as a bassist has played with not only Phil Collins, but also James Taylor (whom he started out with), Toto, The BeeGee's, Jackson Browne and others.
I would like to add Karen Carpenter to that small list. She was a great drummer and an even better, unique vocalist. It's so sad that she passed away so young.
Phil Collins is a living legend. He was part of the group 'Genesis', too. Both his solo work and his work with Genesis are well worth delving into. 'Land of Confusion' from Genesis, and 'Another Day in Paradise' from his solo efforts are good places to start. I wore out the cassette (showing my age there 😂) with his 'Face Value' album back in the day. So, so good!
Phil Collins is an icon! He wrote this song about his divorce. It is very difficult to sing and play the drums at the same time and he does it with ease. Love your reaction!
When you stopped to comment on him playing drums, the Demons in Hell and the Angels in Heaven just STOPPED and YELLED at you, "HEY, I was LISTENING to that!!!"
Oh good lord. You've never listened to Phil Collins before?😉 You should go down that rabbit hole. He's wonderful.👏 This song was about half way through this fabulous concert in Paris. Stay safe
Originally Phil Collins played drums with a band GENESIS, he & the band were brilliant. Peter Gabriel was the lead singer at the time. He left at one time, leaving Phil Collins play drums & lead singer - just incredible He was a lot happier to have his own band as you can see!!!! 💝💝💝💝
Phil Collins says he came up with that famous drum fill late one night in the studio after everyone else had gone home. He said he was never happy that there was a gap in the song just before it all kicks off, so he played around on the toms then recorded a fill, not knowing if it would be kept in or not. The next day, the rest of his team heard it and loved it - and the rest is history. His son Nic Collins played drums on the last couple of tours with his dad, and put his own spin on this song. It's worth checking out.
I’m always baffled that younger people don’t realize that Phil Collins does the music for the Disney animated movie “Tarzan”. Phill is phenomenal and I don’t believe can ever be matched! This is one of my all time favorite songs and this live version is so extraordinary because it does change from the radio version. Love your reaction, thank you!
I was at his concert in Jan 1983 and heard him sing this. ( I was in college at Indiana University and he played there I believe in Jan) It was the most amazing concert I have ever attended. I have attended quite a few big name shows and it is in my top 5. Phil is amazing
Ooooh what a time to be alive back in the good ol days when music was pure talent! Nothing beats the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s music! Ok some of the 90’s was pretty good especially country music. These days it’s ALL about country music and I’m actually loving it!
LOOK DUDE....HE ALWAYS PLAYED DRUM WHEN HE WAS IN THE GROUP "GENESIS" WATCH HIM PLAY DRUM IN THE GROUP AND THEN HE ALSO PLAYS THE PIANO AS WELL...HE WRITES ALL HIS MATERIAL AND HAD 40 NUMBER #1 SONGS MOST EVER!
Phil's version of True Colours is beautiful ❤. I also love Two Hearts, Easy Lover, One More Night, Another Day in Paradise, Sudio, and his cover of You Can't Hurry Love 😊.
The guy with the beard is the legendary and most sought after session bassist Leland Sklar. He is 77 yrs old and still active and has his own RUclips Channel. If you go to his Discography on Wikipedia you'll scroll through countless pages of Albums he played on (broken down by Artists) and a long list of Movie Soundtracks & TV Theme songs he played on. It does not list single songs (those not part of an Album) that he played because those would too numerous to list. When it comes to Bass Players, Leland IS the GOAT.
The white haired, bespectacled bearded guy with his eyes closed is bass guitarist Lee Sklar, an amazing session guitarist. There's a slight echo machine added to Phil's voice.
You definitely need to listen to some more Phil! By far, my favorite musician of all time❤🎉❤🎉 Check out Take me Home from the end of this same concert. Its just epic Also, I Dont care Antmore live at Perkins Palace For him in Genesis Anything from his conceet at Wembley 1987 will astound you Land of Confusion Home by the Sea Domino Mama Tonight Tonight Tonight/InvisibleTouch/ Turn it on again
One of my favorite Phil Collins songs. The live version is the best! A few other Phil Collins songs that you might like if you haven't heard them yet are: "Another Day in Paradise", "Sussudio", Against All Odds", and "Separate Lives".
Check out the drum duets between Phil and the touring drummer Chester Thompson. They did one at every live Genesis concert and Phils solo concerts. Lots to choose from. You won't be disappointed.
Hi dude, Phil Collins was the drummer of GENESIS group after Peter Gabriel leave this formation..Listen the song " MAMA"..with Phil like a vocal, greetings..
Saw him.4 times live at Bell center in Montréal this man is a genius wears many hats but a drummer fitst siner piano actor writer 🎉🎉🎉all his sohs are great check out YOU CAN WEAR MY HAT but live shows only way to see whst saw 😅
Bad Divorce…Cheating….He was pissed! A lot of people don’t realize he is left handed so his drums are set exactly opposite of normal. You don’t see the drums until he’s almost to them bc they are under the stage on are in risers! He has retractable drum sticks (go back & look at his hands). That is why you don’t see him reaching for them. The flow isn’t interrupted, & he can just wale on them immediately!
My wedding song is Follow You, Follow Me by Genesis. How about that one? Also by Genesis - I Know What I Like (Seconds Out Phil Collins version or Selling England by the Pound Peter Gabrial fronted version), Mama, Man on the Corner, Home by the Sea Phil Collins - I Missed Again, I Don't Care Anymore, Sussudio, One More Night Live Aid - Long, Long Way To Go (Wembley Stadium UK), Against All Odds (Philadelphia, PA, USA ) Phil Collins was the only musician to play on both continents for Live Aid. He played at Wembley, jumped on a concord, rushed to the US and gave an impressive performance on an out of tune piano. Seriously you gotta see it!
This was an epic performance. If you like angry Phil try "I Don't Care Anymore". Collins was also a master of the ballad. And then there is his 25 years with the rock band Genesis. Check their live performance of ABACAB. Fire! You can look at Peter Gabriel also. He was the Genesis lead for the early '70s as Phil played the drums and, get this, WAS THE BACKUP SINGER!
people complaining about commentating and interruptions, the music and video are out there if you want to just listen to the song, the whole point of this video is to see someone react and comment on the song, and I loved this reaction!
Phil wrote this song during his divorce. He has no idea what the song is about. He just used the feelings he had during the divorce to write the song. 3:01 I think they were using it as a part in the concert where the other musicians are able to do solo parts. It seems like the perfect part for it. 4:02 also his voice sounds like the album version. Most artists there’s a little difference in the voices. 6:47 he came up with this beat while playing for Genesis. They found the sound in the reverse talkback and ended up rewriting their board to record the sound. Normally that is only used for the engineer to listen and not to record.
Someone else if you listen to any rap, there is an independent political rapper Tom MacDonald originally from Canada now living in the states . He has many number 1 billboard hits Facts, The Machine, God Mode, me vs you, System, to name a few
Phil has had some health issues and he is not able to play the drums while he is singing so his son is now playing the drums for him as he is singing. His son is a very good drummer too.

DONT EVER CUT OFF MR PHIL...THE LEGEND...EVER
Phil always describes himself as "a drummer who sings a little". He began as a drummer for Genesis and then became lead singer when Peter Gabriel moved on to do solo work. He became really famous after that.

Did not know that! Thanks!!
Leland reminds me of Gandalf.
@@punkydoodle4774 except a guitar instead of a staff... Just as magic though! 😉
@beverlykrebs4372 He has a RUclips channel where he talks about the old days as a session player, does demos etc.
@@toby9999 ooooooh! Will def check that out!!! Thank you!!
Best drummer on the planet. And he can sing too! Most iconic drum drop ever!
Phil Collins is one of the best drummer/singers EVER. Him and Don Henley of the EAGLES.
Phil has a song called "AGAINST ALL ODD'S" that is the song for the movie with the same name that has Jeff Bridges , Rachel Ward and James Woods.
I would like to add Karen Carpenter to that small list. She was a great drummer and an even better, unique vocalist. It's so sad that she passed away so young.
You forgot Roger Taylor of Queen.
And Karen Carpenter
I'd also nominate Levon Helm of The Band.
Phil Collins is a living legend. He was part of the group 'Genesis', too. Both his solo work and his work with Genesis are well worth delving into. 'Land of Confusion' from Genesis, and 'Another Day in Paradise' from his solo efforts are good places to start. Mr Collins is not interrupted when he plays his drums, I think that is punishable😂
Yeah, I clicked off when he interrupted the drum set. Blasphemy. LOL.
Phil Collins is an icon! He wrote this song about his divorce. It is very difficult to sing and play the drums at the same time and he does it with ease. Love your reaction!
Phil commands the stage. The whole audience was watching one person!
This drop was rated as one of the best drums drops ever recorded.
As somebody who grew up on old Disney movies, Phil Collins was my first musical crush (which never really went away). He is a phenomenom. 🥰
He is one of the best drummers out there. Love this song.
When you stopped to comment on him playing drums, the Demons in Hell and the Angels in Heaven just STOPPED and YELLED at you, "HEY, I was LISTENING to that!!!"
For sure 😂
You never interrupt a drum solo!!
Oh, and as a fellow Newfie, you should KNOW better. LOL
Tough Love.
Interrupting THE Master Solo to wonder out loud what movie he saw this solo air drummed to… is Thumbs Down worthy.
He is an Icon in the UK. Do some research, he was the Drummer of Genesis.
His voice is THAT GOOD!!
The GOAT , no other like him. His voice❤
Oh good lord. You've never listened to Phil Collins before?😉 You should go down that rabbit hole. He's wonderful.👏 This song was about half way through this fabulous concert in Paris. Stay safe

That is the most epic performance I have ever seen in my life. What a privilege to have witnessed it. WOW❤
Look how young the crowd is....the song was released prior to those younger people's births. Fantastic.
Love your reaction, thank you!
this is a masterpiece of a living legend, I have to listen this song at least once every day, just close your eyes and drift away :-)
Watch the entire 2+hour concert. It is pretty epic.
I was at his concert in Jan 1983 and heard him sing this. ( I was in college at Indiana University and he played there I believe in Jan) It was the most amazing concert I have ever attended. I have attended quite a few big name shows and it is in my top 5. Phil is amazing
Greatness witnessed again

Phil Collins is the 🐐
And this is the part of the concert when Phil Collins took everyone to church.
Phil Collins solo and with Genesis is the total musician. The best. Thanks for your reaction.
Back in the 80s I saw him in concert both as a solo artist and with genesis, and he was incredible.

In that one shot, he looks like he’s achieved Nirvana. Probably an every day thing for him.
He’s a fantastic drummer & that piece of drum solo is used in so many films/adverts etc.
please react to ‘Paradise’ a really powerful song x
The best drummer ever
The white haired, bespectacled bearded guy with his eyes closed is bass guitarist Lee Sklar, an amazing session guitarist. There's a slight echo machine added to Phil's voice.
Phil Collins is a drummer who happens to sing too
THE Legend!
Phil is a legend. Such a great drummer and has a great voice too ! xx
If you were alive in the 70s/80s, you listened to Phil Collins.... There was no escape.
The "Santa Claus" looking Bass player is Leland Sklar who has preformed over 2000 Albums, if you name an older artist, he's played for them.
THIS CONCERT IS HIS FARWELL TOUR IN PARIS....THE SINGER OF ALL TIME WILL BE THE BEST SINGER AND PERCUSSIONIST EVER!
Dang! I would have loved to be there for that performance! Love your reaction!!
Epic live performance 🔥😊
You definitely need to listen to some more Phil! By far, my favorite musician of all time❤🎉❤🎉

One of my favorite Phil Collins songs. The live version is the best!

It was used in Miami Vice Tv show the pilot
Hi dude, Phil Collins was the drummer of GENESIS group after Peter Gabriel leave this formation..Listen the song " MAMA"..with Phil like a vocal, greetings..
Both, his voice trails well and there are effects
Not sure if anyone told you or not... but yes.. This song was in "The Hangover" .. Mike Tyson was listening to it and singing it! lol
It was initially in Risky Business with Tom Cruise back in 1981
he was originally the drummer!!
It always makes me laugh when people are surprised that Phil Collins plays the drums
Saw him.4 times live at Bell center in Montréal this man is a genius wears many hats but a drummer fitst siner piano actor writer 🎉🎉🎉all his sohs are great check out YOU CAN WEAR MY HAT but live shows only way to see whst saw 😅
The crowd knows what is coming. Did you?
My cat yells HELLO through the hall where the acoustics are best
Most famous drum drop ever
This was the 16th song he did of 24 at this concert.
Bad Divorce…Cheating….He was pissed! A lot of people don’t realize he is left handed so his drums are set exactly opposite of normal. 'That Guy' ... who was feeling the vibes...is Leyland Sklar.
An excellant muscian in his own right.
Look him up sometime, he has a channel here on YT.
We can see a classic scene with this song, on the first episode of TV show "Miami Vice" (in 1984)
He also wrote and sung the ost for Disneys Tarzan which is beautiful
It was Hangover. Mike Tyson was singing this song.
Eminem also references this song heavily in Stan.
NOW YOU KNOW🤣🤣🤣super cool/tough
Miami Vice 1981.
YOU NEVER EVER CUT OFF PHIL WHILE PLAYING EVER!
Yeah it was the hangover
Opening of the concert in Paris
Phil Collin's song "Hand in Hand"
My wedding song is Follow You, Follow Me by Genesis. How about that one?
Also by Genesis - I Know What I Like (Seconds Out Phil Collins version or Selling England by the Pound Peter Gabrial fronted version), Mama, Man on the Corner, Home by the Sea
Phil Collins - I Missed Again, I Don't Care Anymore, Sussudio, One More Night
Live Aid - Long, Long Way To Go (Wembley Stadium UK), Against All Odds (Philadelphia, PA, USA )

people complaining about commentating and interruptions, the music and video are out there if you want to just listen to the song, the whole point of this video is to see someone react and comment on the song, and I loved this reaction!
It was The Hangover
Can't overlook Leland Sklar, the bass player. He's worked on quite a few of Phil's songs.
To fully understand the intro, you should watch the first episode of Miami Vice.
🔥
You need to do Phil’s Against All Odds.
Phil wrote this song during his divorce. He has no idea what the song is about. He just used the feelings he had during the divorce to write the song. 3:01 I think they were using it as a part in the concert where the other musicians are able to do solo parts. You should check out the song That'sAll by Genesis❕❗ That's the band Phil Collins was part of at one point❕❗
Someone else if you listen to any rap, there is an independent political rapper Tom MacDonald originally from Canada now living in the states . He has many number 1 billboard hits Facts, The Machine, God Mode, me vs you, System, to name a few
Hangover. Mike Tyson plays it. Ohil also plays the piano. Triple threat 😊😊❤
great reaction 😁
Thank you!! 😁 You are too kinds as always :)
Phil has had some health issues and he is not able to play the drums while he is singing so his son is now playing the drums for him as he is singing. His son is a very good drummer too.
My God, I feel super old.
Great reaction!!! After this you should check out Stan by Eminem... There's a connection, trust me!!
nice reaction even with the cat noises lol
😻😻😻😻💓💓💓💓
Too many interruptions
I really enjoyed you. I had to subscribe
Drummer for Genesis
One of the best reactions and I've seen them all.
Please do "I Don't Care anymore" next.
Check out the Carpenters .Song suggestions --Superstar and Rainy Days and Mondays
You've committed the almost unforgivable sin of interrupting the drum solo, lol.
It's from risky business
