Can you please consider making videos on how to use freeway signs to get from one destination to another? And how to conquer hidden one way streets, not the ones that are demonstrated in state driving manuals?

Hi, Question- When you exit a Highway, there's usually a recommended exit speed in yellow color signboard. What if, after exiting, there is no speed sign for a long stretch of road ? What speed limit should you maintain- the usual 50km/hr, the recommended exit speed or back to highway speed? Many thanks in advance.

I merged into the highway with 60 km/h and I failed my road test for that one single mistake... it's so unfair. I wish I had seen this video earlier.

So the speed limit to enter a highway is 80?

      Hi Shadi,
Match the speed of the traffic on the highway (up to the speed limit). Usually when you are in the merge lane you will see a speed sign posted indicating the maximum speed limit for that part of the highway. If the traffic on the highway is moving slower than the speed limit, match their speed, but if they are going faster than the speed limit you will need to safely merge at the speed limit. Hope this helps!

Question.. on entering the highway.. what if you are the one who’s entering the highway and people is not giving you a distance should you stop or not?

      Hi Drew,
Your aim should not be to stop at the end of your merge lane. This is dangerous for two reasons:
      1. You may have other cars behind you coming in to merge and they are not expecting a car to be stopped at the end of the merge lane.
      2. You will then have to accelerate up to the permitted speed on the highway from 0km/h and which will take time and can be a hazard for you and for the cars approaching you (from behind) on the highway.
What you want to aim for this is:
      1. Accelerate as soon as you get into the merge lane, aiming to get your speed a close to the posted speed limit as possible. This will make it easier for other cars on the highway to let you in.
      2. Signal nice and early, to let people know that you're going to be merging soon. Don't wait until the last second to put on your signal.
      3. Check your rear view mirror, left side mirror (to see how far away the cars currently in the lane that you're interested in merging into are), and shoulder check (for a car that maybe in your blind spot). If you're not sure about this step, check my Changing Lanes video.
In my 15 years of driving, I've never once has to make a full stop in the merge lane because other drivers wouldn't let me in. Sure, there's been the time where a car was moving faster than they should have been or they were too close, I have simply let them pass and merged behind them. And sure, there's been times where I've accelerated on the merge lane only to see that the traffic is backed up on the highway and I then have to reduce my speed to match their speed and zipper merge safely.
The main thing is to keep your calm as you're entering, know the plan, and have some faith that things will work out just fine. :-)
      Regards,
      Shayan
