Hire a video editor who can edit for both Mark and yourself, just look for some local highschool or college kid and have him come to the shop and edit videos, it will pay off in no time as you will be able produce many more videos. Maybe eventually go all out, Patey Pilot Productions
Thanks for having this chat in the hanger as I’ve learned a little bit more about you two. I love what you do and I support what you do. I can’t wait to see what you guys come up with next. I would love to meet you I don’t know when I would ever get out from Colorado and go that way. Thanks a bunch guys.
Wow! Anybody with just HALF the energy and drive of one of the Pateys is bound to do well in life. Just think of the things we'll still see from them in the future! - Martin
So here is the deal, I am not a pilot I just love aviation. Anyway I happen to attend the AOPA fly-in at the Livermore airport with my kids, Mike was there with Draco and they had just done some flying Stol competition with the rest of the Cowboy crew. When I approached just to see Draco with my kids Mike was amazingly pleasant. He had said hi to my two little girls and began to talk to them so specifically, about flying and Draco it was just a very cool moment. Since that day I have been watching Mike and Mark's channels. I certainly believe in earning your keeps and the Patey's show it. May you and your family stay safe and continue to have the time of your lives.
12:35 in...The entire reason why I am hooked on Mike Patey videos. "If it is important to you...Back to work!" Thanks Mike, you are a true inspiration!
It's so great to see and hear Mike and Mark. I really love what they're doing for the aviation world. They are truly role models for the rest of us. They show us that it is possible to balance work, family, and play time and be happy. Giving credit to their wives and family is awesome. I'm really blessed to have a supportive wife too and I've learned to not neglect her in the pursuit of my hobbies. One thing they discussed is being competitive. I love what Mike said about that. His attitude is perfect, he feels good for others if (by some odd chance) they beat him, not mad that he lost, and there is zero jealousy. That's the way we all need to be, try to improve, but not just to beat someone else. Lift others up. He has more fun than anyone else I know. I fly RC model planes, and like Mark has with the flying cowboys and his other aviation friends, we have absolutely the best group of people ever. We love, help, and support each other and have all the fun we can stand. Okay, back to work, no wait, I'm retired, okay back to play.
I have been watching Mike for some time now and l'm always amazed with his drive, excitement and skills to get things done. After listening to this interview l now understand where it all comes from, the "lets get back to work" It's a way of life that needs to be taught once again to all our children, teach them how to work with their hands, how to create and solve problems, somehow this valuable lesson got lost in our society. These two men are truly an inspiration to all, thank you for sharing this valuable information.
I so love these guys. Their Best Tugs are something we've needed in aviation for years. I've been trying to get my company to at least try them because we are so fixed on the "old ways" and so many of our customers have had the same concerns about towbarless tugs that Mark had with his wife's Cirrus. The "big two" of towbarless tug builders haven't changed their technology in almost 30 years and it's guys like this who will finally pull us into the 21st Century in aviation.
What a great week-end! No a Strong-end! The ACCA was a smashing success! Look for it in 2021. I got to meet all 4 of the characters! As successful as they all are,,,,,, they're really down-to-earth people! The Patey's really want you to succeed in whatever you're doing. Great sound and video set-up Dan and Christy! Very Professionally done!
Brothers Patey, thank you! Your positive competitiveness, your passions for family, life and aviation are truly inspirational! I’ve been a fortunate member of aviation for 35 years and feel blessed for it in my life. Thank you for doing so much to grow general aviation!
I don’t know about everyone else, but the Pateys are people I definitely want to meet and get to know. The energy level and ability to make amazing things happen they demonstrate is astounding and inspirational. Great interview.
Dan and Christy, thank you for the awesome interview with Mike and Mark Patey. You are all truly inspirational. A huge thank you to you and Christyfor all the work and dedication you guys put into the channel. Also thank you to Mike and Mark Patey for all that they do.
Hi Dan and Christy! Since I have been watching Mike´s "Scrappy" airplane, I´m so eager for the next video as soon as I finished watching the present. This guy is SO AMAZINGLY positive and I always write to him that in his comment section. Thank you so much for this interwiew. As always, cheers from northeast patagonia, Argentina.
Great interview with the Patey brothers. I love Mike Patey, he is so inspiring and has the most amazing attitude. So I was attracted to his videos cause he loves planes and builds planes, omg it doesn't get better then that but his attitude and his motivation and he just always seems so happy just inspires me. I want to be even slightly like him and be as motivated. I wish I knew where he gets it from. Anyway, one of my Idols on you tube. Thank you for that interview and thanks Mike and Mark. You guys are my heros and inspiration. "Time to get back to work"!!!!
I've been watching Mike and Mark Patey for quite awhile and they are so incredibly positive and inspirational and as Mike said, he is excited for other peoples successes as they are, how can you not just live people like they are!!! They're amazing guys! I love their videos and Taking Off's videos too! Thanks for having them on!
Love hearing the personal side of these guys story. It’s amazing that in addition to being incredible plane builders these guys are multi time successful founders. They both have such great attitudes and work ethics. It’s not hard at all to see why they have been widely successful.
I've traveled across the U.S. to meet these two and the Oshkosh forum '18 was great,... RENO '19 was even better, Mike was kinda free to talk to and I did, what a great pair of guys for aviation ! Thank You Mike & Mark for sharing all..... hope to see ya again in 2021.
These two brothers and their wives are a quartet of ambassadors for general aviation! There was a period of time when flying was unaffordable, but now with all the kits and experimental planes available, almost anyone can afford to fly if they want to! The Patey families make it look so inviting. Whenever new videos are put on RUclips, I always look for theirs first!
Have been wondering on that too... Have made a few comments on Scrappy build videos... I'm enjoying those as well, but was just curious on Mark's build
As someone that attended Friday and Saturday as a spectator, thank you all so much for coming to the middle of no where for this. Stearman is a local gem of a field. They have done so much to it. Hopefully this will become an annual event here at Stearman. So much better to just relax here than to have it at a huge event. Thanks again!!!
Thank you guys so very much for your dedication to these products . I worked at a FBO for 20 years and when we went to a electric tug it was the best thing we ever did .Only problem i had with it was that it was not big enough to move a G - 5 hangered there. We had a lot of hangered a/c and that thing made moving them a breeze.
awesome interview, awesome guys, awesome planes. Such an inspiration to the aviation community. I never miss a show of Mikes, his dedication is also "awesome"
I love these guys! Absolute geniuses when it comes to inventing, fabricating, building, AND living! If I had 1/10th their energy and drive, I'd be doing damn good! Wish I had them as neighbors as a kid - I might've straightened my life out much earlier. Best thing I ever did was subscribe to Mike's channel. He blows my mind in every single episode! 😎 FANTASTIC interview, Dan & Christy! Wish your regular studio was at an airport like this makeshift studio is - the audio enhancement of passing aircraft is great! I loved it. 👍🍻
Excellent interview, nice to see what is behind the scenes and who the person really is. I love their videos, they see that you learn something and keep you wanting more. Take care.
Mike and Mark are true entrepreneurs. They cheer the success of others. I love it. In the process, they succeed. Two of the nicest guys you'll ever find. I love the Scrappy build. Can hardly believe how fast Mike is going.
You guys are great. I’ve seen Marks talk at the university but maybe you could do a video of just how you guys think us mortals could change to be more like you. Back to work!
These two are mind blowing all around.. Been watching there channel's amazing stuff unbelievable fabrication even if its filmed on a phone. Like I said mind blowing.
I see this similar competitive attitude in robotics competitions. The winners get cheered on by the ones not in the next round. Great to see you guys communicate it!
great interview , these guys are what America is missing , people who learn from the ground up , learn to draft , to machine , to weld , to build , to test etc .. an inspiration to a lot of people . Would love to work on a project in the machine shop with these guys .. looking forward to scrappy as a finished project ..
Hi Chandra... Mike brought up a point during this interview. He was talking about paying attention to the details and as you work your kids through the various stations/jobs in the production process, teaching them the business from the ground up. One of those very important steps is to be attentive regarding customer service and the interfacing with your customers. I ordered a package of your "GripLockTies™" soon after MIke described them during one of his videos. The design is a very original update to a years old basic product. What's NOT typical in the package I received was the personal, hand written note to me directly, "Hi Gary, We hope this works well for you. [Signed by Someone]" I never spoke with a customer service person on the phone and had no more contact than to go to your website and place an order. (Which was promptly filled... accurately!!) That little extra step stands out in today's typical "Who cares" environment. Personal touches and attention to details are things that employees will find, make you stand out from the crowd... and it costs nothing! Thanks, Gary, gary@goodlund.com
I've never seen anyone with more positive energy than Mike. TV and Internet Journalist need to interview and give more airtime to people like Mike and Mark. Now back to work....🙌🏻
I have said many times, Mike in particular is an amazing guy - wish I knew him as a friend. That's not though to diminish Mark who is also a super guy. I am (in old age) still a near fanatic over things aviation. Totally addicted to all this.
This might be your best In the Hanger yet. There's a video on VAS Aviation's channel about Mark's engine out in his Lancair. He sounded so cool and level headed... and the end was great. It was very impressive. He's also a very good motivational speaker. I honestly don't see how you guys make the videos you do. All of you. I try but something always goes wrong (operator error lol)
@@chriscoxon6569 Don't feel bad, I had a hard time finding it too. I never did find it on Vitctor's site. It was "cleverly hidden" on Mark Patey's channel :o) It's not an interview, it's the ATC recording of the flight ruclips.net/video/27VPOMfH7OM/видео.html
Mike mentioned that they had started and ran an engineering company. What he did not mention was that neither him or Mark were trained engineers. And yet (not surprisingly) they were successful. He also failed to mention that Scrappy is his 18th(?) (I may have to be corrected on the exact number) airplane build. His engineering skills, his planning and reputation are great enough that he had FAA approval for Scrappy at or near the beginning of construction. I do stand corrected In Mikes new video 7/22 he stated his parts box had been with him for 14 airplane builds. He is still a crazy man.
I agree with the sentiment of what you said, but "his planning and reputation are great enough that he had FAA approval for Scrappy at or near the beginning of construction" is not how it works.
I’m brand new to Mikes channel and I can see a huge difference between them. Mike always has that smile on, plus Mark seems like a bigger guy. Both awesome guys though. Wish i could do 1/10th of what mike can do. Guy know how to do everything.

These brothers are LEGENDS! Thanks for sharing this Dan & Christy!
Current generation of the Rutans.

These two brothers right here are such a HUGE inspiration to sooo many Aviators.

I seldom comment, but what amazing guys! Mike you're a legend.
Appreciate the comment!
I thought I loved the Patey brothers before this... but now it's even more so!
just mic up the hangar and the tools or setup a few 360° cameras and keep them running all day ;-)
