I saw the video when Draco crashed. Mike was really taking responsibility for it all. BUT, what was THE best moment was when he said something to the effect that there were no injuries. Just then his fabulous wife came up, displayed a broken nail, and asked him what about that?? And then she gave him THE most loving hug and kiss any man has every been lucky enough to receive. I got all choked up then, and I have every time I see it, and I did again here. Ma'am, with you as a partner, there are NO limits to a man's joy!! Bless you sweet lady.. Not to slight Suzy at all. She is a gem in her own right. What you ladies have done is inspirational to us all. Thank you..
That is one of the sweetest things I’ve read. You brought a tear to my eye. 🤗 Thank you so much. Mike thought your comment was very kind as well. May you be blessed with happiness and success in all you do.
Suzy. I had a similar type of situation. I was full time with the Air National Guard working in flight ops. I got occasional back seat rides in our fighters. On one of my rides ( an F-100F) the pilot asked if I would like the standard vertigo demo and I agreed. He had me take the airplane which we flew with your wrist on your knee and your fingertips on the stick. He had me close my eyes then take my fingers off the stick. He told me that he was going to make a maneuver with the airplane and when he did I could open my eyes and correct the flight attitude. Well, what he was doing was very slowly rolling the airplane to the left. He then rolled the airplane back level, I opened my eyes and, in my mind, corrected the flight attitude. What I did was roll the airplane 110 degrees to the left and held my attitude. I felt perfectly fine but was a little amazed that the earth was in the wrong place. The thing that surprised me the most was how long it took me to realize what was going on. It took me an entire 15 seconds to get reoriented and another 5 seconds to regain control of the airplane. And that was on a clear, sunny day with a perfect horizon. I was so sure of my attitude that it never occurred to me to check my instruments. If I had been alone or at night I honestly believe that I wouldn’t have survived. Even after getting control of the aircraft it was at least a minute and a half of strait and level flying before I was comfortable again. Thank GOD you had Mark as your guardian angel and it was a learning experience instead of a tragedy. Please, keep flying and posting. You and Chandra make a great team. Love ya guys, Gary
Hi Chandra. I most of the times write to Mike´s comment section, spetially in the latest videos on building "Scrappy". However, in the only one I saw you by ironing the fabric on Srcppy´s tail, I thought "wat a lovely lady". Please ask Mike to get you more in his videos (if the timing is write, obviously), because I think that your precens gives it the "peace" that Mike hasen´t; he is a HURRICANE! I guess most of us viewers would apreciate it. It was very nice to meet you and Suzy. Thanks for sharing. My best wishes to you, Mike and your family from northeast patagonia, Argentina. (I hope you forgive me for my english writing, since it isn´t my main lenguage; its spanish). Cheers!
After watching so much of Mike on RUclips, it's pretty cool to hear from his other half. You guys are the American dream personified, thanks for sharing a little of your lives with us!
Walter Weigert Very well said. I took 4 years of Spanish in high school. Your English is much better than my Spanish. No need to apologize. Keep posting.
I would not be anywhere without my wife’s hard work and support. I may be the one that everyone sees, and thinks is at the helm of our business, but she’s the real boss and I can’t imagine doing it without her. It sure looks like the Patey’s have a similar recipe for a fun and successful life. You ladies are awesome, and my family certainly hopes to have the chance to meet your family one day. 🤙🏼
I flew out to meet with Mike a couple years ago and I'll never forget it. Mike said we had to be quick as he was flying out to the top of mesa to camp with his wife that evening. I was inspired by his commitment and placing his wife before anything else. His love for Chandra was just radiant. They truly love each other and she is the sweetest lady. Those two funny guys wouldn't be where they without these wonderful, beautiful and strong women.
Those people we've all been told are "power couples?" Ha. No. THESE people are actual power couples. There is so much to admire about this family. Amazing people. Thanks for a great interview!
I had spacial disorientation on final into Key West. It was a dark night; no horizon. I hadn't planned to fly IFR, but flying by the instruments saved me. I'm pleased the Patey family is intact.
Listening to Suzy tell her story of her spacial disorientation sent shivers up my spine, knowing that she was flying with her children in the plane just gave me goosebumps. It was very fortunate for her that Mark was flying behind her and recognized what was going on and was able to assist her in getting the plane flying level and on the right course. While it's not exactly the same I got caught in a white out in southern Colorado driving on the interstate with my wife and children years ago at night, all I could see was the snow blowing across the front of my truck in my headlights from right to left while inching forward watching the tail lights of the car in front of me, I had no sense of forward movement, I was convinced that I was moving sideways due to the blowing snow, we crept along for hours like that until we reached an exit and pulled into a motel for the night. It was a terrifying feeling not knowing which way I was moving, but unlike Suzy, I could have pulled over and stopped in the truck, not an option when flying an airplane. Fortunately it worked out for both Suzy and myself, but I think I have a pretty good idea of what she must have been feeling at the time.
I've seen boat loads of Mike and Mark video, this was great to finally meet Chandra and Suzy!! Suzy was very brave telling that story and I'm sure we all appreciate it! I do for sure! Thanks much, great interview!! --gary
"you discover an instrumental ingredient to their success". You 100% nailed that one. What a great interview. Suzy Patey's spatial disorientation story was scary but when she talked about reviewing the GPS data that really amplified how bad it was. It would be interesting to hear Mark's take. He knew how bad it was. Can you imagine following your wife and family in another aircraft and seeing that happen? Talk about worst nightmare ever. I had a little spatial disorientation while flying my wife and kids "home" many years ago. Nothing like hers, just a little brain / instrument argument. Thankfully I heard my instructors telling me to trust my instruments. I choose not to fly night VFR to this day because of it. Especially now that most of my flying is out of KFMN. If you point the aircraft west there are no lights for a 100 miles or more. Shiprock is there. Sleeping Ute Mountain is there. One of the many great things that the YT aviation community brings us is pilot experience. I think it was Josh, maybe Nikko, maybe both that says - "we don't have to fly". I love you and Christy's interview style.
After the interviews (we filmed Mark and Mike first, then Chandra and Suzy), In casual conversation Mark told me his perspective on the incident. Chilling. Next time I talk to Mark on camera, I hope I can get it. Incredible people.
@@TakingOff I hope so. When She was telling her story I initially thought " yeah, I still remember that unsettling feeling when the gauges looked wrong". Then she talked about looking at the GPS track and Mark talking to her. That's when the light bulb came on. It wasn't good and he knew. I actually got goosebumps. I just finished a 950 mile drive from my home in TX to NW NM and this video and that story was on my mind a lot during the drive. Clearly they both handled it well but... wow... With all of the "stuff" we have to hear and see everyday right now it is nice to see that people like the Patey family exists. It's nice to see honorable, caring people
Aside from that "minor detail" that the most important part of my life is in danger in the plane in front of me, keeping the panic out of my voice as I'm trying to keep her "calm" would be my most difficult challenge. I would find it really difficult not allowing my voice to make her situation worse. I would imagine that's one of those memories that will forever remind them just how much they can depend upon each other when panic tries to set in and make things worse. Congratulations to both Patey's... really well done!!
Suzy, I had a similar experience to yours flying over Lake Michigan many years ago. I was flying along the shoreline around midnight when I decided to turn toward the lake. As soon as I was facing the lake with the shore behind me, I suddenly realized that everything outside was black. Up, down, left, right, everything was pitch-black. I was not instrument-rated at the time but I had some instrument training and knew to immediately turn my attention to the instruments. The hard part was when my body started telling me that the airplane was doing something different than the instruments were telling me. I fought the inclination to disbelieve the instruments long enough to get the airplane turned back toward the shore again and all was well. But it sure was a wake-up call. Thank you for sharing your story. I'm so very happy that you and your family are safe.
What happened to her happened to Kennedy jr. In his case it turned into a steep spiral. Luckily she had Mark to get her bearings back. Great that you share this with the world. On a solo cross country I flew over the Chesapeake bay in a Piper Tomahawk. Visibility was good enough over land to see a horizon but over the water I lost the horizon at some point. Looking down I could see the water and ships but started to get vertigo. Luckily the aircraft had a turn and bank and attitude indicator. I reversed my heading on instruments and flew back. That was a lesson I always tried to convey to my students later. Also a motivator for people to get instrument rated.
My respect and admiration for the Patey families is even higher after seeing this! What a great interview. Would love to see more of them in future videos. You guys set such a great example of living a beautiful life. Very well done!
Outstanding interview. Really appreciated Suzy sharing her story about spatial disorientation. So thankful that Mark was her "wing man" that night. Mark and Mike are blessed to have these two ladies in their lives. Thanks
Wow! I am so glad I found this channel...I love the Pateys and their wives are just as delightful!! So down to earth and lovely too!! Thanks for this wonderful interview!
Smart men marry smarter/wiser women. Great level head on them. Hearing that story about the spatial disorientation made my heat race even seeing her there knowing she made through.
I like hearing from the gals, because there is nothing more special than a thriving happy couple and family. Folks that live as full lives as Mike and Mark and manage to have successful families are clearly have fabulous partners.
2 amazing women right there! Was great to get to know them both a bit better. What a story Suzy had there! Frightening. I can only imagine, I hope I never experience that! Great interview, Dan & Christy, as usual. 👍🍻
That was a great interview, so nice to see the family behind the Patey brothers. I think the ladies should be included in more of Mike and Mark’s videos and they should also make flying videos of their own
Chandra and Suzy, thank you so much for your great contribution to general aviation! I'm hooked on Mike’s building videos and Marks lectures, but we all know that behind many great men, is an amazing woman! I can’t imagine the sacrifices you both have made to allow your husbands to be doing the things they do and their impartations into lives of others. The Patey families Rock, and I love them! Adrien
Chandra and Suzy are great ambassadors for aviation, I very much enjoyed this episode and the stories and experiences they shared with us. I met Chandra at UT9 a couple weeks back and had a chance to see her beautiful Supercub and to talk for a while about aviation and watching Mike's youtube videos, having just watched the video of her doing fabric work on Scrappy. I happily gave up a few minutes of flight time to chat with a fellow pilot, and I hope to one day meet Suzy as well, they are Aviation Rock Stars on their own!
Hi Russ! It was fun to chat with you! I must say, I’m glad you delayed your fight that day, the weather moved in and I’m afraid you would’ve been stuck out of town.
Thanks for posting this. The Patey family seems to be a gloriously, finely tuned system of mutual support, and focused energy. There seems an easy, low ego, resonance between the brothers individually and also between their wives of nearly the same character. Theirs seems a success story of more than a pattern of action, but of core commitment to living life in support of family and interests....as life should be. Its absolutely wonderful to witness these lives in action. Thank you Chandra, Suzy, Mike and Mark!
Two beautiful and strong ladies! Thank you for sharing your experiences. Thank you for everything you do for aviation and the support you give to Mike and Mark. Keep up the great work, so many of us appreciate it!
I tip my hat to Instructor Tom for keeping his students in the dark - I'd be snickering at every flight lol Thanks for a great interview, hosts and guests :-)
Their stories were great to listen to. Especially, the loss of spatial orientation. I'm a new flight student that read about it and understood it, but kinda dismissed it in a sense. Her story just made me a believer. So thank you for that! I live in northern NV and understand completely the darkness she explained. Glad I watched this! I left the Reno Air Races right before Chandra and Mike took off. Glad everyone was okay!
Broken nail ... my favorite part of the interview, you can see the Love... Mike is one lucky guy Mark is super lucky as well, spousal communication and trust is everything Love you both and hope to see more
Such awesome ladies to support their Patey men and go all-in on aviation like they have. Great video and thanks to both Suzy and Chandra for their stories.
Great interview, love the way you introduced and interviewed the other halves of the the PATEY twins. They are are as equally as remarkable as they are themselves! Loved the question and I have learnt to love them better even more! Thank you for the introducing the REAL PATEY Pilots, loved their storys and their shared experiences! Super 😎
To Mike and Mark: Chandra and Susy need to be more prominent in your videos! Truly the glue that keep your families in the air. God bless you all. Enjoyed the video!
This was awesome. The Real Patey Pilots! Loved their stories and their joy! Now, it’s 1:00 and Mike is doing his live feed on FB. Gotta go! Thx y’all! You rock!
Very nice video, thank you. Another wonderful interview, this time with the Patey ladies. And yes the birthday surprise caused me to i tear up. Love you guys.
Chandra and Suzy, thank you so much for sharing your stories. If you ever have any inclination to start your own RUclips channel, I would subscribe in a heartbeat.
Spatial Disorientation is very serious indeed. I think more planes have been lost to it than almost any other, bad weather and night flying are when you are most volnerable to it, when you can not see the horizon be very careful and get on the inst.
I myself do not like the phrase "Aviation Rock Stars" as I do not go for all this Celebratory guff. However I do admire these guys for their "Can Do " attitude, their engineering skills and their work ethic. I watch their videos hoping to pick up a few building tips and have enjoyed all of them. Regards, Jim in NI UK
Behind every good man there is a good woman.........and this just proves it those twins don't know how lucky they are or perhaps they do. Would love to see more of you both start your own channel?
Great interview. Was really a lot of fun. The twins are lucky to have such amazing spouses. Supporting your other is not optional, these days it's more like competition to outdo one another and nobody wins.
I met my wife in Montana, I lived in Alaska and she lived in Florida. I was skydiving and she was packing parachutes in Montana. My job allowed me to live anywhere in the USA...so I moved to Florida. That was 21 years ago. I turned her into a pilot as well. She got her private, commercial, instrument, and multi engine ratings. I was flying DC-10's and MD-11's all over the world...that's why I could live anywhere in the USA as well as overseas. She is a school teacher during the week and Fly's Skydivers on the weekends.
I enjoy watching Mike and Mark's videos... Ans think it's awesome to finally get to really meet secret Patey pilots.... Other than just small clips like the ironing of Scrappy's flight controls...
Great video, love the interviews and the stories. Always interesting to to know the women behind who give support to the men in their lives. We now know where "sly fox " comes from. Thanks for sharing.
The only thing the Pateys and their wives lack is capes , incredible people and an inspiration to us all , they make me want to be the best person I can be , God Bless.
It is so nice to see supportive wives like these two. Bravo for them getting there pilots licences and sharing the love of aviation with their husbands.
"Sly Fox" too neat & still laughing, can't pick your own nick name but there are times when one is given that perfectly fits the situation then sticks! A pair of straight up young ladies!
Wonderful and Respectful Interview ! Two Beautiful People and Spirits' Just as Strong as Their Other Half's🏋 - Such Amazing Couples' And That Requires Truly Amazing People!👍🇺🇸🤠🛩
Class attracts class! Wished I would have thought of that pick-up line back in 1973 when I was 23 hitting the "young adults" dances back then. Lol We used to have various BBQ and dances in Northern California. You bring the meat to grill yourself and the ward supplies the charcoal and you bring a dish or two to share. I'm sure Chandra and her sister-in-law can relate! I was double dating with another friend. While picking out our steaks at the grocery store, I saw a "beef tongue" and decided to purchase it as well. Everyone looked at it and it was: "Ewwwww!" We got to the BBQ and when no one was looking I put it on the grill! After a minute or two, people were checking their meat and we were hearing: "Ewwww! What is that!?!?" Some were laughing...some girls were disgusted. We just kept silent. In the end, it was the only one left. A Tongan couple asked me if it was mine. I said: "It's ALL YOURS! I've heard some people love it. They slice it for sandwiches. We had so much fun at all the activities. When I became a CFI later, I took about twelve church scouts for two laps around our uncontrolled field and gave them each a logbook sheet indicating they had had an actual flying lesson that day. So much fun to see such happy kids. So glad for the Patey families to be ambassadors of aviation!
The secret is....... MONEY!!!! I’m not suggesting they have not earned it, actually I’m exhausted watching their videos because the energy levels of these guys is incredible oh, their obviously super smart too. They are good/great Ambassadors to aviation.

It was great to hear the other side of both of these men. Thanks for sharing this with us. "Back to work"
This is an amazing family, and pilots as well
Very cool ladies. Mike and Mark are very lucky. Thanks for the interview.
Aww, thank you so much 😊
I tip my hat to Instructor Tom for keeping his students in the dark - I'd be snickering at every flight lol
Thanks for a great interview, hosts and guests :-)
Same here!!! 😂 He’s a vault!
Super to get to meet these two fantastic women! Mike and Mark are lucky to have them.
Thank you 🙏🏼
Broken nail ... my favorite part of the interview, you can see the Love... Mike is one lucky guy
Mark is super lucky as well, spousal communication and trust is everything
Love you both and hope to see more
Thank you so much 🤗.
Great interview, loved it as much as the interview with Mike and Mark. Thanks folks.
Such awesome ladies to support their Patey men and go all-in on aviation like they have. Great video and thanks to both Suzy and Chandra for their stories.
Brendan Sullivan Thank you, friend. 😊
Great to see the ladies behind the storm that is Mike and Mark!
Suzy recounting the flight with loss of horizon in the black night and getting disoriented was really good to hear about....
Riveting.
Awesome story
Fabulous girls ,lucky men ,great storytelling.THANKS
Great interview, love the way you introduced and interviewed the other halves of the the PATEY twins. They are are as equally as remarkable as they are themselves! Loved the question and I have learnt to love them better even more! Thank you for the introducing the REAL PATEY Pilots, loved their storys and their shared experiences! Super 😎
It’s not just the Mike and Mark show anymore!!
Nope, Chandra and Suzy are the Rock Stars!
To Mike and Mark: Chandra and Susy need to be more prominent in your videos! Truly the glue that keep your families in the air. God bless you all. Enjoyed the video!
Great interview! Very moving stories and wonderful to get more insight into the women who make the men!
This was awesome. The Real Patey Pilots! Loved their stories and their joy! Now, it’s 1:00 and Mike is doing his live feed on FB. Gotta go! Thx y’all! You rock!
So awesome!
Very nice video, thank you. Another wonderful interview, this time with the Patey ladies. And yes the birthday surprise caused me to i tear up. Love you guys.
It was really fun. But I did tell Mike not to expect me to ever try to top it, that’s as much as I can pull off. It’s all down hill from there. 😅
"...not to expect me to ever..." said The Sly Fox... Women, you just can not trust them...
Chandra and Suzy, thank you so much for sharing your stories. If you ever have any inclination to start your own RUclips channel, I would subscribe in a heartbeat.
Thank you 🤗, you are so sweet. I am getting ready to start posting videos soon, stay tuned.💖
These ladies are the perfect compliment to their husbands. I look forward to seeing them in future videos with Mike and Mark.
Thank you 🙏🏼
Spatial Disorientation is very serious indeed. I think more planes have been lost to it than almost any other, bad weather and night flying are when you are most volnerable to it, when you can not see the horizon be very careful and get on the inst.
FANTASTIC INTERVIEW. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO.
Great interview! Very well done! I subscribed and look forward to future episodes.
Great interview. Well done.
Loved this! thankyou for bringing it to us 😊
Great to get an insight into the better (looking) section of the Patey show!
Very nice interview with the ladies. Thanks.
This was very informative and enjoyable
I myself do not like the phrase "Aviation Rock Stars" as I do not go for all this Celebratory guff. However I do admire these guys for their "Can Do " attitude, their engineering skills and their work ethic. I watch their videos hoping to pick up a few building tips and have enjoyed all of them. Regards, Jim in NI UK
Thanks for the input Jim! Bucket list trip is for me to fly Lola across to UK. Maybe one day!
Three remarkable women aviators here... plus Dan. :) Thanks for a wonderful video!
Awesome ladies
What a fabulous and fantastic team 👍😀👍😀
We agree!
Fantastic people!
Behind every good man there is a good woman.........and this just proves it those twins don't know how lucky they are or perhaps they do. Would love to see more of you both start your own channel?
No doubt
Lovestationery I’m on it and thank you so much. 🥰
You ladies make the family!
John Gee 🤗
Thank you. 🤗
Wow, awesome interview.
Wow scary story. It speaks to how hard true IFR flight is.
Draco was cool and will fly again, but I’m really excited about his plans for something faster than Turbulence.
Awesome interview, not often the heart is as good as the content.
Back to work!
Chandra is also building a Cub.
The only thing the Pateys and their wives lack is capes , incredible people and an inspiration to us all , they make me want to be the best person I can be , God Bless.
😂 Thank you 🙏🏼
It is so nice to see supportive wives like these two. Bravo for them getting there pilots licences and sharing the love of aviation with their husbands.
Thank you so much.
"Sly Fox" too neat & still laughing, can't pick your own nick name but there are times when one is given that perfectly fits the situation then sticks! A pair of straight up young ladies!
🙏🏼 Thank you! I’m glad I was given a good one 😅.
@@ChandraSlyFoxPatey ...and better yet, she lives up to it!!! ;^)
Great Video and interview.
Wonderful and Respectful Interview ! Two Beautiful People and Spirits' Just as Strong as Their Other Half's🏋 - Such Amazing Couples' And That Requires Truly Amazing People!👍🇺🇸🤠🛩
Thank you very much, so nice of you 🙏🏼
This interview was more interesting than the Mike & Mark show....
They were awesome.
Awesome interview. Thanks for the share! 👍🏻💪🏻🤠🇨🇦
You know, our husband’s parents are Canadians as well... 😃 🇺🇸 🇨🇦
Chandra SlyFox Patey I am French Canadian... From Quebec.
Albator88 Très magnifique! Je parle français un petit peu. My in-laws are from Alberta.
Chandra SlyFox Patey c’est bien! Quand je vais laisser des messages en français vous allez pouvoir faire la traduction ☺️
Albator88 Je ne connais pas tous les mots. Donc, ne rien faire de compliqué 😅
Class attracts class! Wished I would have thought of that pick-up line back in 1973 when I was 23 hitting the "young adults" dances back then. Lol
We used to have various BBQ and dances in Northern California.
Great story!!! 👅 😂
😂😂 That’s hilarious!! You can’t go wrong imparting some humor.
Wow, just "WOW!"
This channel is taking off! :D
Ha!
That was fine. Thank you.
This was cool........Thanks.
Outstanding.
Really liked meeting the better half of each man. I wish my wife was that much into aviation!
The wives are "Rock Stars" too!
🤗👍🏻👍🏻
You girls are just as cool as the boys very entertaining! I cant believe he mentioned DRACO omg Mike you going to redesign that new Wilga you have ?
The secret is....... MONEY!!!! I’m not suggesting they have not earned it, actually I’m exhausted watching their videos because the energy levels of these guys is incredible oh, their obviously super smart too.
They are good/great Ambassadors to aviation.
That’s not the secret that’s just the by product.
I have been following the Scrappy build - great stuff :-)
I was just asking Mike about you Chandra yesterday. How the handling of "Scrapy" going to be while you are flying.
I can relate to "Making out" on the perimeter road.
It’s balanced nicely for either one of us 👍🏻👍🏻😃.
Haha I can’t believe Mike met Chandra that way. Such a baller!
Awesome!
