To my eye the Fuji did pretty well in low light I know they do funny things with their ISO so these tests are hard. Over all I love the X-S10 for photography and for light video work but I know the AF on ZV-E10 is overall the best of the bunch. In good light the Fuji colors look really nice to me. I think with any of the 3 you can't go wrong. Of course for the price the Sony stands out. Cheers and thanks for the video.
Don't know about the X-S10 specifically, but the X-T3/4 have dual native ISOs at 640 and 2000, allowing for some great low-light. In HLG, you can get an even cleaner image at higher ISOs compared to FLog.
Your videos are really cozy, brings a nostalgic feeling for some reason. Your personality is the kind of quirky that isnt annoying. Just an honest review/critique. Really been enjoying your zve10 videos and your content has driven me over the line to buy a zv-e10 as a first time camera buyer. Have a nice week my friend :)
The Sony is the clear winner here IMHO too. You generally use very good music... I have a ZV-E10-ish budget, but am still saving for an FX30 I think, or another APS-C if Sony comes out with an updated A6xxx with the new menus etc.... Thanks for the comparisons!
Great comparison…and was surprised just how poorly the iPhone did, but when you think about sensor size it makes sense. Little Dougie still a star at Handsome Studios! Would have also loved to see a ZV 1 added in….not really same group, but bet it would have done better than many expect.
The reason why the iPhone did poorly is because the night mode was not turned on.... also the lens that he used for the cameras are perhaps vastly superior than the stock lens on the iPhone. You will see a more fair difference had he used a kit lens and turn on the iPhone's night mode to see the differences. Also do note the amount on money spent in buying a camera and prime lens is wayyyy more expensive than getting an iPhone. Lastly, do consider that the iPhone's feature is not only the camera, whereas the other 3 cameras that was shown, its main feature is photo and video.
I watched a lot of your videos before buying the sony zv e10, still the best buy i ever made for a camera and you still reminding me about that. Now i should try getting some good lenses

This is the one I've been waiting for! Thanks Mark! I am so glad I went with the ZV-E10 over these others! If HLG3 doesn't perform well at higher ISO/when underexposed, what profile would you recommend if someone was doing a lowlight vlog with the ZV-E10?
I suggest dont use, even slog will not perform good. I tried just standard and way better but im no expert but atleast i tried to use in at night.i think the trick is when your out at night bring a small external light with you cuz thats what i learned when i try to use mine and using the zhiyun crane m3 gimbal, cuz the gimbal has its own light and i noticed it helps alot.just what i observe.the most important is dont shoot in lowlight if your camera is not sony a7s lol :)
Hi Tim.. In my opinion, the best profile for low-light shooting on the ZV-E10 is the HLG3, because Movie and Still cut details in blacks too much and have less dynamics, meaning a darker image if you don't want to burn out the lights. The Standard profile has too much noise and also worse dynamics than the HLG3, so it works on average in worse lighting conditions. Best regards and good shots. ;)
@@kamilq4836 Thanks! I just confirmed that with some testing. Do you use the Leeming LUT? It's great but I'm having an issue exposing correctly for it. It's recommended you "expose to the right" but the only way I know how to do this in a situation where the lighting changes (vlogging, etc.) is to set the exposure to +1 or 2 and this tends to blow out the hightlights regardless of picture profile. It's better than the standard profile but do you know of a better way to do this? I can also use zebras to set the exposure correctly for the brightest area I'm vlogging through, but that is also subject to being highly under or overexposed during the scene.
Hey Mark, you are really found your niche didn't you? Good job 👍 I never thought that as a full frame sony user I would be bothered by apsc iso comparison. But I am rather impressed by zv e10, you can only imagine now how good fx 30 will be in low light.
Something I figured out recently that you've touched on in earlier videos: Digital stabilization needs a higher shutter speed just like Catalyst Browse because of weird motion blur artifacts. I have watched and read a lot of reviews and most fail to mention this, citing it only as a negative for Catalyst Browse. I even noticed this when shooting video on my cellphone (Pixel 6 Pro) and didn't know what I was looking at. You can see this the most with night videos when the lights look like jello with each step. They also will tell you that they don't like the extra post-production step when they're already choosing to color grade or calibrate their gimbal. To me, it is a great tool and the negatives about it are exaggerated.
ha. yes. I just said that in a vid I haven’t released. people say they don’t want to do the steps for catalyst browse. but shooting, setting up gimbals, nd filters, thumbnails, it all takes time. And stabilization is one of the most important things. And yes, all the e-stabilization benefits from the higher shutterspeed,
Totally agree with what you've said. I've used catalyst browse and find it much easier option than bringing a gimbal with me. It really doesn't take long to process the few clips I want to process. I believe gyro stabalisation is available in a premier pro plugin so hopefully fingers crossed itll be available in a final cut one soon
Impressive how the SONY achieved focus even in the darkest scenarios, whereas the Nikon and Fuji really struggled. With very dim light Sony also looked more than decent. As for the iPhone - so much for computational photography!
I always thought that the Nikon Z30 would hold out as better low noise at 12,800 iso and 25,600 iso, however as you say the Sony still looked good at 32,000 iso and Nikon held the best colour so we have that for Nikon. These are extremes but worth looking for outdoor photos late in the day for street shooting or cityscapes. Indoors in normal room light often the cameras can keep the ISO to 6400 iso, or even lower with LED lighting indoors for content creators. What is worth also noting based on your video samples, the details on the face looked best below 12,800 or 6400 iso and lower (faces and hair held some details at 12,800 iso). Latest APS-C usually looks its best anywhere below 6400 iso for details. The image is breaking up with less details or smearing/softer image at 25,600 iso, so only use these high ISOs if there is no choice (with the lens a person has available on travel handheld) in very low light.

Hi Mark, thank you for the excellent comparisons and extremely helpful information! I have a question and it is in no way critical of your methods, but I am curious. During your tests I see a reflection in your eyes of a light source when you’re testing the Z(ED)-EV10. I don’t see similar with the other cameras. Is it light from the ZV-E10’s view screen?
I will correct myself - I do see a similar dot of light on the outdoor shots from the other cameras, but not the iPhone. I’m now thinking it may be a reflection of one of the hanging lights and possibly that the ZV-E10 just shows it much brighter that the others.
yes - I had all tally lights turned off and the screens were set to lower brightness. I was far enough away from the camera that the screen light didn’t affect the light on my face (but it created a gorgeous catchlight in my eye)
Great channel, and your product knowledge is second to none! I have recently been hired to shoot footage for social media commercials for a high-end granite countertop/kitchen remodel company. I just purchased two sony zv e10's, to capture to types of footage. I plan to use my sigma 16mm 1.4 lens for talking head shots, but would like your opinion on a lens for around $500 or stick with the kit lens for my other camera for capturing footage of their their employees installing/remodeling kitchens for their commercials. I will definitely upgrade to a high quality lens, so should I stick with the kit lens until my budget allows for a lens that is over$1000? Thanks for any advice. Your channel is amazing, couldn't think of anybody better for advice on this!
If it’s bright enough the kits lens will be fine. Unless you need wider to capture the whole scene. Then look at the Sony 11mm 1.8, or the Viltrox 13mm 1.4. Both are around $500. You also could just get another Sigma 16 for $350. All those lenses are about as good as it gets for Sony apsc. You won’t see any better no matter the price. That’s one of the advantages of apsc!!

Hold out for a bit more, or buy a used one first. With 2 new Fujifilm sensors and processor, the next gen will be far more amazing. See if you can pick up a used X-T3 or X-T4 even, I reckon some might be selling those to upgrade right now.
Hi, may I ask what's your comment about a sony lens (Sonnar T* E 24mm F1.8 ZA)? I bought the ZV-E10 couple days ago after watching your videos, the salesperson talked me into buying this lens (was on sale), so I got this instead of the kit lens.
U can't compare ISO to ISO on Fuji, if you compared based on exposure and noise, both Sony & Nikon will get clearer image, and Z30 will lead with her dual ISO gain. this make no benefit from X- trans sensor for low noise, other than unique film simulation. Btw , can u test Z30 with atomos ninja ? And get 10bit 4:2:2 ?
Why is the Fuji painting the right side of your face and neck blue? Thats weird. Nikon and Sony neck and neck in this one. I love me some Fuji but the X-S10 wasn't holding up like the others in this test. I'm still looking to upgrade my Fuji X-T1 and been looking at the X-S10, personally I like it's form factor along with IBIS and great slow-motion. Might have to pull the trigger around Christmas. Thanks for another Great video!
Hey Mark, I love your videos. You help a lot in helping me jump ship from Canon to Sony ZV-E10 with your reviews. However, can I ask for your help mate? I didn't like the colors from the Sony RAW photos but I heard that it can be fixed with a calibrated profile from X-Rite ColorChecker. I don't have the money to afford it so can I humbly ask your help from your fellow subscriber to share the ARW photos of X-Rite taken with Sony ZV-E10 and Sigma 16mm? You can also share just the DCP profiles with me. Thank you.
Nope that's not how the ColorChecker is used. You use it every single time the lighting is changed, when you have different camera brands so that you can match the colours by creating a custom profile. So it's not something you can "calibrate" once and forget about it. It's more commonly used for products/portraits/fashion photography when you need 100% dead accurate colours. Sometimes events too as the event owner probably hires a bunch of different photographers using different brands. Also, it only works with high CRI lights. If you're shooting in places with cheap normal lights with poor CRI ratings, the colours will still be quite off and annoying to calibrate. If you want nice RAW colours, usually the first thing is to play with the white balance and tint. If you get sick and tired of editing colours you can join the Fuji gang where we have beautiful film simulations and recipes (which are totally different from presets since it's how the images get debayered).
Hi Mark. I think your comparison is a little bit unfair for iPhone because, first, the lens used on the iPhone is the lens that the phone comes with.... you did not do that with the Nikon, Sony, and Fuji.... for the cameras you used a high grade lens while the iphone lens was stock lens. Secondly, you did not turn on iPhone's night mode. Night mode would have brightened up the photo a lot. Secondly, I think its also crucial to mention the amount you spent on each camera plus the amount spent on the lens used compared to the price of an iPhone. Third, after you have shown this on your video, then its fair to say the iPhone's main feature is not camera.... sure its a feature than is in the camera, but its not the only function that people use the product for. As for the cameras, it does nothing else but take photos and videos. But nevertheless, you need to show the iPhone photo when night mode is on because with that feature it makes a huge difference. I think this is why people more and more people prefer to use their phone's camera instead buying expensive cameras. So please do another video showing these 3 cameras with the basic lens which it comes with, and then please take the iPhone 13 and turn on night mode to show the true difference of the quality of the image people will get and please do indicate the total price below because that I am sure is also something to consider. Thanks
the iphone is great - I can't live without it. But in these tests - it is just there to show people a baseline of what you get out of the phone vs the cameras. As you see, the title of the video this is just about the cameras. Night mode is only available in photo and this was a video test.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Oh yeah it didn't hit me that it was a video.... right right for some reason I was mixing up the video and photo features. Sorry about that... But I just want to add that since you mentioned that you wanted to show the baseline, perhaps it would be best to show the video quality if you were to use the kit lens and not a prime lens. That way we can see the difference in video quality based on the kit lens that the cameras come with. Also perhaps you can including a photo comparison.... would be nice to compare and see if its worth buying one of the cameras of perhaps the phone camera is good enough. Thanks.
the Nikon or the Sony. If you're hooting short clips - the Nikon. Long clip - the sony, because the Nikon doesn't run for more than 30mins in 4k without overheating.
Not sure why to buy very compact camera to use it with big lenses. DSLR is the best if you using 2 pound lenses. ZV-E10 shines with kit zoom and pancakes.
I have an itchy bug and it's called X-S10.... If Fuji had a competitive price on lenses and many 3 party lenses.... Oh my wallet... It would suffer. Because price per body is the same as a Sony A6400.... Which in itself is a wow...

Do you think there is some valid cause for the X-S10 being so dark?
does nobody see the dead pixel on the nikon?
We want the same test but for autofocus. from what iam seeing in this video only the sony that can focus.
If you can confirm this and thanks for sharing these awesome content
The Sony has the best autofocus for sure. It's perfect. The other two are good - but not perfect
Does iPhone 13 pro have 'night mode' feature (i guess, it has), and if yes, was it turned on for the comparison?
you're thinking of photos. In video - there is just normal and HDR. If defaults to HDR in bright or dark conditions. So it was in HDR mode
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Yes, of course, how did i miss that? My bad. Thanks for providing the clarity i needed.
How about Dynamic Range File Recovery because fuji x-s10 is the only with 10 bit, how about the shadow and highlight video file recovery? Many Thanks
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thank you! I've been doing this as a hobby, and they approached me to shoot videos for them, I want to make sure I buy the right gear the first time out until I skill up! Your channel has been instrumental at helping me get on my feet regarding videography. Thank you sir. Best channel out there...no contest! keep it up!
Wow a Fuji! I'm excited now!
review on the way. it wobbles in the corners with wide lenses but other than that - it’s pretty great
Sony is the king of the low light noise surprise! But I think color science wise the Fuji was better than all. Wished there was a Canon instead of iPhone to see the ultimate brands comparison! Lol
@@networm64 Sony and Fuji uses different ISO scales so it's tricky to do perfect comparisons. But Fuji is BSI and Sony isn't so for stills Fuji still performs better.
im very happy by the Sony ZV-E10 (for the movie in APS-C) :-) and now i see in your test than i have good idea.
but in full frame i have Nikon Z6ii the must have.
thks
Make a video comparing fx3 to fx6
I don’t have access to an fx6 unfortunately
Great video been looking for this as i have been temped to buy the fuji xs10 for a while now it seems to have a lot of good features in a small package and the price is decent thanks mark
ore videos coming. it wobbles with wide lenses vlogging, but other than that it’s really great.
Hold out for a bit more, or buy a used one first. With 2 new Fujifilm sensors and processor, the next gen will be far more amazing. See if you can pick up a used X-T3 or X-T4 even, I reckon some might be selling those to upgrade right now.
Thank you for this triple test! I'm waiting for new several tests with Sony ZV-E10 and Fujifilm xs-10. Cheers
Let's watch, beer man 🍺
🍺🍺
Hi, may I ask what's your comment about a sony lens (Sonnar T* E 24mm F1.8 ZA)? I bought the ZV-E10 couple days ago after watching your videos, the salesperson talked me into buying this lens (was on sale), so I got this instead of the kit lens.
that is an extremely high quality lens - it’s pretty expensive, but it sounds like you got a good deal. it should give you amazing photos and video
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thank you for letting me know, I love your videos.
Hello again:) I'm here to be convinced to spend my money on cameras. Shut up and take my money.
I wish I sold cameras - I would take your money 🤣
As usual for me , the Sony is the best , although the Nikon is good tooooo ,
For the price of all these cameras and the lens 1.4 they are perfect
This ancient Sony sensor always a good performer !!
Thanks for another Great video!
that’s my fault - I sat too close to my background lights and got my selfed blued.
Wow, The Fuji talking head looks great. What film simulation did you use? And what highlight and shadows did you have it at?
used f-log with the LeemingLUT
I like the xs10 because it has a viewfinder
When you show your face it look like Charli Chaplin 😂😂but best review my fav zv e10.
🤣
I have nikon z30, zve10, a6400, m50.. and the z30 looks the best.. then zve10, a6400 an last m50.
Thank you.
just use Lightroom to process your raw photos. hit the auto button and choose a preset if you’d like
Nope that's not how the ColorChecker is used.
Thanks.
Props to the ZV-E10
always 🤣🤣
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis lil Dougie getting it done as usual.
If I were shooting concerts at night which do you think would be best? Keep in mind there will be a bit of movement and low light.
the Nikon or the Sony. If you're hooting short clips - the Nikon. Long clip - the sony, because the Nikon doesn't run for more than 30mins in 4k without overheating.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Okay, I am doing mostly pictures and 1 minute long videos. Would you still say the Nikon?
One little Dougie to rule them all
😀
like zve 10. thank you
Not sure why to buy very compact camera to use it with big lenses. DSLR is the best if you using 2 pound lenses.
ZV-E10 shines with kit zoom and pancakes.
the Sony 11, 15, and 10-20 are tiny. I used the Viltrox because I had a copy for all three cameras
Can you do z50 vs zv e10🦕🗣️
the z30 vs zv-e10 should give you an idea because they have the same sensor and the quality will be the same
ZV-E10 and the nikon held up the best. Just wish either had IBIS and an EVF. Looking at both closely for an upgrade thanks for the comparison.
Nikon z30 best color 🎉
Zve10 rocks 😂
I have an itchy bug and it's called X-S10.... If Fuji had a competitive price on lenses and many 3 party lenses.... Oh my wallet... It would suffer. Because price per body is the same as a Sony A6400.... Which in itself is a wow...
it’s great. the stabilization wobbles with wide lenses, but other than that if really a fantastic camera
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis you hit the sweet spot, which makes me salivate for a X-S10😁
@@starlightHT same buddy ive been eying the xs10 for a while now it seems to have all the good features in a small body and price is amazing
Z30
100% and 50% light: Fuji looks way better.
The fujifilm has a setting in camera named 4k roise reduction which will help on high iso. You didn't use .which gives real improvements
I used it. It reduces noise - but of course it can't help you get a higher ISO
Z30 is trash I’m a Nikon owner . Own z7 and z6ii and had three z6s previously.
have you tried one out - I like mine - what about it don’t you like?
Best color/ Picture straight out of camera, great autofocus- Nikon
Best autofocus, Want to tweak colors and see in dark- Sony
Most features, ibis, 10bit, okay autofocus- Fuji
sir s 10 in 10 bit .... on camera .are not
Yes - you can record 10-bit externally. The studio test was 10-bit
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis ninja V use in 10bit right sir
Any thoughts on Sony 50mm 1.8 OSS vs Sigma 56mm? The price difference is huge - I found the sony lens for 80$ used.
The autofocus will be slower and noisier and the lens isn’t as sharp - but for $80 you can’t go wrong!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I know the FE version is noisy and with slow autofocus, but the OSS (aps-c version) is supposed to be silent and good in autofocus (according to the internet).
Yeah Sony's the winner!
