The first time The Master tried to escape was The Harvest, episodes 1 & 2 of the first season. It didn't require the death of a slayer, just lots of teenagers. It was only after Buffy stopped it that The Master went with plan B, killing Buffy.
Yup... The Harvest was his 1st try to get the strengh to break the barrier. Drinking a Slayers blood was plan B, after Buffy stopped plan A.
"This is not the three-way Xander had in mind" almost made me spit out my coffee! :)
Not only do we get to see what Sunnydale would have been like without Buffy, we also get to see what Buffy would be like without her friends.
And I hadn't noticed before some of the lines from the opening scene in the park - Buffy: "That was too close for comfort...If you guys hadn't been here to help..." and then when talking about relationship problems and Xander asks Buffy "how do you deal?" and she says "I have you guys." Also Buffy talking about Faith "Slaying's a rough gig. Too much alone time isn't healthy."
It all ties into the idea of the episode, the importance of Buffy's friends. Through the wish-verse we get to see what Buffy would have been like without them (and maybe where Faith is headed if she continues to stay isolated?)..And then it's so great seeing the gang united at the end of the episode.
The impact is dulled with the amount of alternative reality movies and TV shows, but watching the end fight in the Wish verse was genuinely emotional the first time I watched it. Also, I loved the little glide down the stairs the Master does
Prophesy Girl (season 1 finale) was plan B for the master.
The pilot ep had the Master's disciple Luke feeding at the Bronze to release him from the church.
So, if Buffy had never been there, Luke would have fulfilled his role and the Master would have escaped. The obvious irony here is that Buffy is still killed by the Master, once more fulfilling the prophesy that the wish disrupted.
Think it's just totally acceptable to suspend all disbelief here and accept it as one of the cheesy episodes. Appropriate with the reappearance of the Master ^^
Does that make Giles the anointed one if this universe?
If you recall the vampire Luke from the first two episodes, remember that the Master claimed him as his vessel, so that he could escape from where he was trapped.
With no slayer there to stop him, he was obviously successful in getting out.
The wish! THIS episode! There are some turning points that are not immediately apparent in this one. Stay tuned. As always, it is great watching your reaction videos to the best show ever.

14:40 Well - Plan A was the Harvest which didn't require Slayer blood. And since Buffy wasn't there to prevent it I assume that it was successfull in this reality.
The look of peace on Buffy's face as she died...
If it's any consolation, Willow (and Xander) were probably turned before the Harvest, before Oz showed up... so he never would have known what he missed.
Yeah the original Sunnydale may not be the safest place to be but this episode showed that without Buffy things could have been a whole lot worse for everyone , also Wishverse Buffy acted alot like Faith in this episode 😂🔥
So true about Faith-esque qualities. Buffy arriving in Sunnydale and stopping the master was a huge change and without her the world of Sunnydale is a scary place! Thanks for watching Roderick and for all the support 💜

The Wish is always a fan favourite. A great concept here with the alternative reality. We get introduced to Anya The Vengeance Demon, the moral of the episode is be careful what you wish for. Cordelia being Cordelia opens up the alternative dimension, some great comedy one liners here too, and of course foreshadowing again for the future. Cordelia's vacuous airhead friends are so cruel to her and others. Giles saves the day confronting Anya and restores things back to normal. Again we see S3 being so innovative with much better writing and storylines. It just gets better and better. It's a 'bangerfest' from here on in to the S3 finale.
Oz telling Willow "...so you can feel better about yourself..." Is just so....Accurate.
You've already Hearted messages that explain The Master getting out during The Harvest (Which also negates the Hellmouth opening later in the season.)
Buffy fighting the Horde of Vampires in the alternate universe, so you remember when Giles criticized her efficiency back in...I think season 1, "Plunge and move on..." Well, this Buffy did just that (Visible when she stakes Xander and just moves on to the next vamp) and she died permanently because of it.
Vamp Willow is definitely similar to Dru a little bit.
Also, Remember that there are many "Watchers" in the world. Kendra had one, Buffy had one before Giles, Faith had one, then a replacement one that was expelled from the Watcher's Council and was technically "Evil"...you get where I'm going with this.
"She looks more like a teacher". Chrisma Carpenter and Robia LaMorte who played Jenny Calender are just a few days apart in age. About 28 or 29 when this was filmed
Jup... and Harmony is the only real Teenager on the cast. I think she was 19 in Season 3 Its so funny if you know it... a 19 years old Highschool student bullies a 29 years old Highschool student! 😂

Killing Buffy to escape was teh backup plan. Episode 2, the Harvest, was an earlier attempt to escape. Don't know if there were any attempts before the series started.
14:30 That was the second plan the first was to do the harvest from the very first two parter.
I love my Jayne / Buffy Thursdays… I love my Jayne / Buffy Fridays…and when life events intervene; I love my Jayne / Buffy Saturdays.

great reaction to a fantastic ep that introduced us to an alternate history of the "Wishverse" with a now freed Master running amuck and the awesomeness of Vamp Willow/Xander... the "Bored Now" line is so classic! and I loved every minute.... nice finish to the triple vid treat today that gets you 3 CTU's from me today, D! Yeah you're right about Cordelia looking like a teacher Charisma is actually the oldest out of Nicholas, Alyson, and Sarah Michelle she was like 26 going on 27 when she was cast so technically she's too old to be portraying a high schooler

But they choose Sarah who was close to the correct age to be the star, she was seven years younger than Charisma, imagine if she'd g9t the Buffy role she went for.

the first 2 episodes (pilot and the harvest)really set things in motion for this episode. the master was freed because his disciple, Luke, was feeding and Buffy killed him, so the master couldnt go free. willow and their other friend were kidnapped by darla and that guy willow met at the bronze. after that its pretty clear to me that zander would have been turned by one best friend, it could have been either one of them. i hope that all made sense it did in my head 😬
😡It's amazing how people forget the whole point of the first two episodes of the whole entire series was for THE MASTER to be released with a huge Harvest but Buffy prevented that. In this alternative universe, Buffy didn't🤷♂️

this episode is honestly disturbing and thought provoking in so many ways...i mean what if Cordelia had said something else...something far more stupid...but thankfully she didn't. And then there is the parralales between the real world and the alternate world...Buffy seemed tougher in the alternate world...but actually she was weaker...and that was because she didn't work with others...no teamwork...so the Master managed to kill her much easier.
as for Anya she is a type of demon that grants wishes...usually for the sake of vengeance. She came to Cordelia because she had wronged by Xander.

I think you might be confusing Emma Caufield and Clea Duvall who looks similar and is in She's All That and season 1 episode 11 as the invisible girl Marcie Ross.
I think she meant the girl who went onto the blood extraction machine, one of Cordy's friends - it wasn't She's All That - but she was in Bring it On and Clueless

No your analysis was wrong at 6:36. Actually Xander decided to move on, but Willow was feeling guilty about it still, so she decided she could not pursue anything with Xander, I guess she realized she wanted to make things right with Oz. The lesson of the episode: Without Buffy, everything goes to shit.

As much as I enjoy this episode, the opening scene only reaffirms my issues with Willow and Xander when I think the writers were going for understanding. The fact that Cordelia was just talking and not intending revenge makes it better for Cordelia in that regard. I have also wished she remembered what happened for official closure and Xander and Willow for justice, but sadly, none remember. They are the only characters who should also. None of the others have reasons to need to remember.
I wonder if Anya remembers. She should or else she could tie herself in knots with crazy timelines or alternate universes. However, the way she tried to grant the wish at the end indicates she didn't.

I imagine and this is all made up but it would make sense, that the harvest (when Luke was sucking people in the bronze and giving power to the master S01E02) went uninterrupted so the master was able to get out with that and prolly Willow got turned that day and she went and turn Xander since she had a crush on him
since buffy never came to sunnydale, xander was never uh "distracted" by buffy, so he was probably at the bronze with willow, as willow indicates was normally the case before buffy came.

I just watched your latest Angel reaction on Patreon, which was somewhat underwhelming (the episode, more than your reaction). Thought I'd check RUclips; noticed this reaction, and all's right with the world (apart from the political situation; the war in Ukraine, my weight problem, etc, etc, but you know what I mean🙂).
Cordelia's end with vampire Xander and Willow biting her neck in the alternate world she wished for was ironic seeing as it was brought about by her catching Xander and Willow necking in a vampire's lair!
