  • In the final chapter of PNG Expedition, Patrick and Richard have to sail out of the mouth of the Fly River into a turbulent sea, to reach their ultimate goal of completing this taxing expedition. The locals have dubbed their voyage, the suicide sail, as the seasonal weather pattern throws storms in their path. Along the way they receive help from worried locals, from sea faring sago farmers to sorcerers who claim to calm the winds for the rickety boat.
This expedition, which extends from Vanimo on the north of the island, to Daru in the south, took three months to complete.

Well done fellas. I was a Patrol Officer in PNG throughout the '70s and you brought back memories of the patrols I used to go on. You should research the original PNG crossing that was done in the '30s. If you have to opportunity and can find it the book "The Sky Travelers" by Bill Gammage tells of the last great overland expedition anywhere in the world with 300 to 400 carriers taking 18 months to do most of what you did plus plus plus. Cheers and well done.

Awesome documentary. I did the trip from Kiunga to Daru back in 2012, but in a motorized 'banana' boat...it was also during floods so we had a good run all the way down. The places you stopped at Obo, etc, are familiar. That river is massive, and it's unfortunate that sediment continues being dumbed in there by a mine upstream. Enjoyed your documentary series.

To be honest, no Papua New Guinean would have done a two men trip across the country crossing mountains, thick forests and rivers. You should be proud of yourselves embarking on a trip that wasn't done ever before. Just so you know that the mouth of mighty Fly River has claimed many lives traveling on small dinghies. Congrats and may God continue to guide yous in your adventures.

First sentence of the video isn't true, Papua New Guinea isn't an island, it is a county - consisting of half of the of the island of New Guinea as well as various other islands (New Britain, Bougainville, New Ireland, etc...)

This is not sorcery, read the Word of God and the Book of Enoch chapter 75. Our people of Western Province are the lost tribes of Israel and we know which spirits control the direction of winds and the weather associated with them and we just need to speak to them to either call the winds or slow down the weather. The man in the video does not know his roots and the knowledge of our creator, he is one of those ignorant citizen from our eastern tribes of Erub (Kiwai islands) at the mouth of Fly River.

    • @ribatlawrence2890

He does know his roots. He just doesn't understand/comprehend English the way you do! Go easy boii - You where fortunate to have an education unlike your tribesman in the video you're classifying as ignorant
