Liked and subscribed: Your video was stunning. We are planning a trip to PNG next year. The Mask Festival really helped me to understand more their culture.

I was reading a Journal in Anthropology and Genetics which showed evidence of 2 major historical lineage of people. The Melanesians and Astronesians. At some point 50,000 years ago the Island was part of an archipelago land mass called Sahul, which also connected with Australia. Sometime later around 3,500 years ago appeared another group called the Astronesians people, bringing with them the Austrnesian language. Papua New guinea is the least archaeological studied Island and the only place where wild bananas can still be found. Professor of Archeology Tim Denham from Penn state University have written quite a bit about New Guinea and other Pacific Islands.

@@eddygonzalez6018 I was born in Papua New Guinea. New Guinea is one of the few places on Earth where agriculture developed in isolation.
The highlands of the interior were assumed, by colonial Europeans, to be uninhabited until they found out in the 1930s that there were about one million people living up there.

@@MrAnperm Papua New Guinea is an amazing place. The more I read about it, the more fascinating it is. The people and their culture. It's a time capsule. I had no idea they still hunt and kill women perceived as witches. What part of Papua New Guinea are you from? Does everyone belong to a tribe even though they live in the city?

    • @MrAnperm

@@eddygonzalez6018 My mother is from West Sepik province, on the coast. I was born there, but grew up in Australia. My father was an Australian 'Kiap' in New Guinea for 30 years.
Many people still believe in sorcery, but the ones who act on it, like killing witches, are the more remote highland tribes.
The highlands is in general a much wilder place than the coastal lowlands.

Tolais descended from New Ireland Province many years ago. That's why most of their culture is similar to that of New Ireland. The natives of East New Britain are the Bainings who owns the famous Fire Dance plus the Taulils and Sulkas. What I know from my granny.

The name tolai isn't a name given to a particular tribe. Infact it's a name given to native people of 2 particular Provinces (east new Britain Province and west new Britain province). There are soo many things said in this video that aren't even remotely corrected.

    • @philipkoso4946
      @philipkoso4946 4 года назад

There are also other tribes in East New Britain apart from the Tolais.
      find out for yourselves.

Wilson are you even from that part of the region? Stop being ignorant. He is right, Tolai is a tribe itself apart from Taulil and the other tribes that exist in East New Britain. West New Britain has an entirely different group of natives. Go take history lessons before making useless comments or just stay in your own province.

Papa New Guinea is one of the least ever explored places. I highly suggest to send massive amounts of drones footage towards the mountain regions. WW2 soldiers from Japan and America had case run ins with actual giants and strange lizards there and in the skies. Google Earth looks like scattered bone fields in odd mountain areas

As appreciative as I am that this video is portraying insight on how culturally diverse and amazing PNG is, there are way too many mispronunciations and misinterpretations of my beautiful culture. producers of this documentary could've done better.

Sounds of drums don't always necessarily mean wars and tribal fights as said in 18:08, different drums had different purposes and so the "kundu" drums or the honed lizard skin drums were mostly used for traditional ceremonies or celebrrations and till today you don't get to find tourists everytime there's kundu drums beating

I don't know if the Narrator is Daniel Henney. He is a Korean American actor. But kind of sounds like his voice.
Also its Melanesian not Malaysian. You pronounce it as Mel-a-ne-sian. 😅. Thanks for trying though.

Theres a lot of mistakes this guy made starting with his pronounciation of my country ... anyways there are many ancient tribes in africa that if any race was mixed with those ancient tribes it would pick up , papua new guinean blood does not pick up none of that in the DNA. We need someone to do a documentary that knows what theyre talking about

    • @firstnationfall5451

Shut up. Please. If he said their origin was in Europe then you wouldn't dispute it. They ancestors were Africans. You find blacks in the Philippines, Indonesia and other parts of southeast Asia. They are the original people of these lands. Melanesians, Aboriginals. Africans gave rise to and produced every human on earth today different types, DNA, colors and ethnicities. The Melanesians are their descendants.
