- Destiny 2 Shadowkeep's lore has expanded with the decoding of the cryptoglyph. The Puzzle has lead to 5 lore passages that seem to point towards a Hive plan to resurrect Oryx, The Taken King!

@@empyrean196 , not necessarily "for good." Remember, Oryx killed both his siblings as true deaths to gain the power to defeat a foe. But he then "ressurected" them by "naming" them via his cunning and his prowess in war. Perhaps by the Hive continuing to "pursue knowledge" they are bringing him back.

@@therewillbefire1833 But as Byf explained, if they bring back Oryx then either Oryx will rightly kill them in which case Oryx will still be alive to lead the Hive that didn't take part in the resurrection to glory. Or they will have proven their mastery of the sword logic because in that moment, their will was stronger than Oryx. Also, the resurrection of Xivu and Savanthun has to taken with a pinch of salt as the Books of Sorrow themselves have claimed that the Books are full of lies.

Crota was a really stupid ascendant Hive. The guy had meat for brains and was jealous of his talented sisters.
Deceived by his aunt Savathun, he tried to meddle with the Hive arcana and Sword Logic. It went bad.
This precedent opened a portal to the Vex network inside the Throne World. The Vex were flooding it and they even got the chance to simulate Oryx in an all out war for a thousand years. Quria Blade Transform was conceived and in its efforts successfully simulated Oryx.
Oryx had to step up. Knowing that he had enough, he managed to take control of things and got rid of the Vex invasion, he took Quria and converted it. Not to mention that he proceeded to banish Crota to the ripple in reality that he made in the Throne World and said that if he didn't destroy the Vex, better he never comes back.
After so much fighting, Crota got a position in a desolate moon known as Luna, where he built his base of operation. Even though he was celebrated as a Hive champion, he was neglected by his own father and mostly certain ignored by his own sisters (Savathun was laughing her ass out).
Being Crota was suffering. He just put all that frustration and anger in the battle of Mare Ebrium. Killed more guardians than anyone. Killed Eris' fireteam. But it was stopped at our hands.
Meh, if they revive Oryx then he can just be like "I summon Crota, which I did for my siblings so why not my son?"
@@Nero_PR He wasn't stupid at all, being deceived by Savathūn doesn't make you dumb; she's just THAT cunning. Oryx didn't really neglect him either. Yes, he sent Crota away, but he also came to Sol to destroy the guardians out of malice and outrage specifically because we killed his son. You want neglect? Oryx neglected Nokris and erased his name and history from the Hive records only to be remembered by a singular statue outside of Oryx's Command Station on the Dreadnaught.

@@eclips_total2215 No problem man. It is a little convoluted the way I phrased it, but pretty much that is what happened. I just reiterate the part of Oryx neglecting Crota, it's more like they weren't in good terms in their relationship.
Crota was one of the prides of his father, he was strong, had a lot of potential to be the next ruler. But his weak point was that he wasn't much intelligent.

I thought Oryx didnt come back as a nightmare was either:
1. Oryx was too powerful that a false manifestation could not form
2. Oryx was defeated so badly that he barely traumatized the guardians

I think it's entirely possible they could be resurrecting him in *some* form, leading us to a secret mission in which we reclaim the Touch of Malice. It could be part of the Dungeon too, but traditionally they've brought back old weapons in their own secret missions. Mayba it'll even be on the Dreadnaught! Either way, I'm excited to see where this goes!

Core systems that can't be overhauled without a new title. That and it's about the only way we get a full sized story that an oryx resurrection would deserve

Oryx was so easily defeated because of two main reasons
1. He was angry, he wanted revenge as we killed his son. He tunnel visioned us alone as we where the one killing Crota. He didn't care for anything else. He also underestimated us, thinking we where just a small bug he could squish
2. With Crota being dead and the Hive getting defeated, the chain of supplying Oryx worm with power got weaker or even totally crashed down. With that Oryx got weaker and closer and closer to death. He still was powerful enough to withstand normal bullets but he was to weak to defeat us, the most powerful guardian to have ever existed and than again us with fine different guardians battling him in his throne World. That means he was already dying when we fought him

Zero Todona That’s true as The Moon has been introduced but remember Bungie want the events of the season and DLC to echo throughout the year. Not saying it’ll be the same but take the dreaming city for example, the curse is still ongoing and we had the whole storyline until Mara left. Since it ties is more with Shadowkeep than it does the Season of Undying, the story could receive updates throughout the future seasons as an overarching story arc where alongside it we have the events of the upcoming seasons.
Something else to bare in mind, Bungie and Activision split up. During their partnership, I can imagine they were pressuring Bungie to make a new game and if that was the case, Bungie would be limited in the story they could tell. Now they have split, they can add more into that story, not just the brief outline of content that teased during their time with Activision.

Okay, here’s my thoughts on the possibility of oryxs return and how he could be resurrected. When savathun was killed in her throne world oryx displayed a great act of cunning and trickery to the wormgods to resurrect her despite her being killed in her throne world. This worked because savathuns affinity (I guess you can call it that) is trickery and cunning. Now oryx is dead and in order to be resurrected savathun would need to have a source of unimaginable power and strength. Now where would she get something like this? The dreaming city. The death fueled power battery that is the curse. It doesn’t make much since that savathun (who uses cunning to defeat her enemies) would want that amount of power, or need it. So I think that she’s going to use that to resurrect the taken king
What about that giant worm God on titan, the hive could use that to bring oryx back, mabye, or make another king

Eris has fought the greatest of monsters, but didn't take proper care to avoid BECOMING the monster. And in that time, the Darkness has taken root within her.
I'm not convinced she will become Oryx, but she will come to embody some greater aspect of the Darkness. And the Hive will hound her until she submits to becoming their newest Queen -- or seeks out Guardians to end her.
Thank you, Byf, for bringing this amazing lore and connections to the forefront of the Destiny community. Absolutely fantastic and cannot wait to see how/if Oryx truly returns!

Oryx “remembered” and “understood” his siblings after their true deaths and was able to revive them. Eris definitely remembers oryx and she understands and studies him more than anyone so maybe she’ll be the key that leads to his resurrection.
Two options, or three
Eris has been playing us like a fiddle and is actually evil
Eris becomes possessed and revives him and she becomes his vesil
Or
She accidentally triggers a series of events in which she already has, kill his son, kill him, find the pyramid ships, set free the Darkness, send the guardians into the raid and send a further signal which has information that leads to Oryx's resurrection.
Maybe the guardian is the sharpen blade while eris is the waiting one from the drift shit.

Tbh Oryx coming back at this point helps us as much as it hurts us. Once coming back he’d immediately cuck Savathun and all her forces, possibly kill every Hive that helped bring him back and may even turn on the Darkness if things go badly.
Oryx has always valued the Hive above all else (and according to Calus, the Hive ain’t around when it wins) so he may just turn against it if he does come back.

As I read it I felt it was desperation on the part of the Hive, trying to find some meaning out of such grand defeats at the hands of Guardians. I don't know whether they have the capability to bring him back; but to me it seems like an effort driven by insanity and grief.

this is how i read it as well. this isn't a step-by-step plan to resurrect oryx, this is people seeing jesus never eat crustaceans, and then they make a religious rule that no one can. the hive are finding meaning where it doesn't exist, in a desperate attempt to maintain their dogma
then again, why would bungie have gone through the trouble to lock these lore in the cryptoglyph to be found, if they didn't mean something...

Yea i feel it too if hive could sense the darkness, I'm pretty sure they sense her hatred as well, i swear at times her hatred even rivals present of nightmare's. You seen how phantoms backed away went she burst out quiet at them.

In general he's very hard to listen to. I love the lore, but can I get the not over-read and overly-pronounced version, really? A simple reading would be fine, not something that takes 15 minutes to describe that could be done in 5 minutes.

Byf, I can’t believe you failed to mention Toland’s dialogue on this topic. Multiple times now Toland has mentioned to me a new Oryx. However, his thoughts differ from yours in one key way: He claims the Hive know that Oryx cannot he resurrected. His dialogue is something like this: “The Hive began to ask the question: If Oryx cannot be resurrected...can he be remade?” In my interpretation, this means the Hive will not be aiming to bring Oryx 1:1 back into this world, but rather to realize his power and will in a way we never could imagine.
Yet they won’t resurrect Cayde, how toxic.

Imagine at the end of the "Witch Queen" dlc some Dark Fanatics of Oryx and resurrect him using Savathuns body and that's how we kill Savathun but Oryx discovered something in death that allows him to cause "Lightfall" to happen.

I’m kinda bummed there’s no nightmare of Oryx. He was one of our biggest adversaries ever. And yet, Bungie would rather make a nightmare of Zydron, but not Oryx.
Has this theory been disproven then? Or does it remain a possibility. Before watching this just now, I assumed the heresy was that of the other three hive swapping souls, and the resurrection of Zulmak as helped by Savathún.
Imagine a campaign where it is discovered that the Touch of Malice survived the red war and was laying in the rumble of the vault ruins of the old tower. The hive discover this and the hive mount an attack to take it for themselves it. When after we fail to retrieve it and the hive capture it for themselves, they could use the Touch of Malice to revive Oryx (Seeing that the Touch of Malice was Oryx's plan to live forever, it is speculated the the touch of malice holds a piece of Oryx's Worm, and that in Oryx's own words the touch of malice is all that he is) The rest of the campaign could be you trying to stop the hive from resurrecting Oryx , ending with you failing to do so. Post game strikes and quests could feature you fighting Oryx's new taken generals that he has sent upon the system in an effort to kill you as revenge for killing him. Then the raid could be your final stand against the newly resurrected Oryx.

This theory brings up an interesting point if we go back to post-story warmind to the whisper of the worm quest and sniper both the weapon and the quest are far more taken in nature and you do here the voice of xol during that which could just be him speaking to you through his ascedant realm or oryx could have been already revived at this point by the darkness (at least in theory) and before or possibly after xol's "death" oryx could've taken xol i dont have alot to this but its an interesting idea
It only makes sense they’re gonna at least try and bring him back since he could do the same for anyone that had previously fallen. This will be very interesting and EPIC AS FUCK to see go down, should they succeed.
