All my birds have GPS rescue set up. They all work fine, including landing. IDK what is happening with yours, but I followed Limon's GPS rescue video. I think it's for 4.4 but the same settings work fine for me in 4.5. I know they say hover throttle is important. I don't know if that is your issue, just throwing ideas out there. Best of luck getting it sorted. Looking forward to part 2.

It stopped recording unfortunately 😔 ive got my goggles set to start recording on arm and stop on dissarm. I still had video in the goggles and could see it coming down . I never had an action cam on either 😔 wish I'd had my vlog cam on a tripod
I've never tried rth and land on betaflight, but I do know it works amazing on Inav. On a seven inch drone that needs rth, I would use Inav every time.
Ive always used rth as a back up incase of failsafe and to be fair it's work fine . Just seems to have gone a bit haywire on the landing side of things . May have to have a look at inav as I've never used it
When I was running i think 4.1.1 bf rth worked good for me ,hit the switch then take back controll, but 4.4/4.5 it gives you more options. so did all of them like hover point /height ect,,,I arm the quad but just let it'sit there with the motors spinning and my gps will start adding meters on home then 6m 14m 22mm 40m and my quad hasn't even moved lol bye the time I took off gps was saying 180m away lol what's going on there then lol

I have never had that happen on 4 of my GPS BetaFlight quads. Check settings and do a hover test so the settings are correct for that quad. Is my guess . That is so weird mine land fine.
Follow Dshot’s RUclips video on setting up gps. Most other ones, including Bardwells tend to leave you with the GPS half set up and pretty much have the same issues as you experienced. Following his video step by step will fix all your issues and leave you with a reliable working GPS.
You need to load ardupilot or the naviflight. You can't use beta flight for these DIY builds. Load different firmware. I can post a link for a guy that gives you step by step to make your FPV drone operate like a DJI drone. He even has the follow me functionality working as well as toss to launch as well as full scheduled weighpoint flight. Let me know if you want me to post the link up? 👍
Here is the video of the guy setting up Adupilot instead of betaflight and it makes a FPV drone into DJI like drone with similar functions. It's very detailed and well done like a tutorial. I hope this helps with what you are trying to achieve. I think this is a must if you get into long range flight or you wish you look at something outside of your RC range you can send the quad ahead of you to check something out and return. I've ordered a full quad copter auxiliary sensor kit of AliExpress for only $14AUD👍 I'm interested in possibly making a "security drone" for the front door at home like a mobile security camera or something? 😆 I just l like the idea of not being tied to DJI so I am not arbitrarily geolocked out of some area and automatically dobbed on to authorities 🙄 Keep us posted👍
Betaflight has some advantages over ardupilot for quadcopters. Especially if you like to fly your quad yourself and have it fly amazingly well with a user-friendly interface. Don't get me wrong, Ardupilot is great, and I run it on a couple of VTOLs, but for my normal quadcopters, I'll take Betaflight all day.
Enjoyed that... You answered my question at 9 mins. The crawl through the hedge and then realising you didn't need to - classic! Been there with all of it, Betaflight, climbing in hedges! The pylon looks fun for freestyle! Look forward to the trouble shooting. Maybe set max alt lower, just in case? I had my first fail safe before Christmas, and I am still unsure why - wasn't very far from the quad and luckily was proximity flying.

You don't show the Footage right bevore the crash. Do your FC disarm? Are you enable to switch RTH off and regain controlls? Are you able to rearm? I bet you have Issues with GPS (Powerlines?) and/or Baro Altitude. Set your RTH Alt to 5m AGL for testing so you haven't a Stuka-dive, turn your Baro off and fly in a spot without Powerlines.

Mine brand new vapor D6 missed its TOLP by a good distance even with 20+ sats. Might as well have landed in Thornaby rather than Darlington

Betaflight has some advantages over ardupilot for quadcopters. Especially if you like to fly your quad yourself and have it fly amazingly well with a user-friendly interface. Don't get me wrong, Ardupilot is great, and I run it on a couple of VTOLs, but for my normal quadcopters, I'll take Betaflight all day.
Also, you can toss launch your quad with betaflight, too. Bardwell did a video about it a few months ago.

I bet you have Issues with GPS (Powerlines?) and/or Baro Altitude.
