Hey, I grew up with the Fantastic Four. I would say they are my team. When I got into comics it was the early 90's and I hated every current Marvel comic on the market at the time, so I raided 80's back issues. John Byrne Fantastic Four was my first exposure to the team, and they have been my favorite team ever since.
X-men is the best team to me. My definitive roster is: Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Kitty, Rogue, Beast, Gambit, Psylocke,& now Emma. JL is my 2nd fav.. TMNT's personalities should be given to the FF.
If we are talking favorite teams, for me it was the original Excalibur and the Teen Titans. Unfortunately both fell under the weird habit of the big two putting writers on them as a form of punishment. "Oh, you don't like that book? Well then you can fix it or you're fired."
I love how Sal hates the Avengers/JLA era of using second string characters, because i'm a little bit older and I see how that makes it different..according to one's POV. Like..the reasons why he does not like it was the reason I did as a kid. It's interesting to me as I find i 90% agree with Sal and seems to have read alot of the same titles at the same times. The second stringers eras came out of writers trying to make lemonade out of lemons. Editorial mandates and the creeping power of the marketing and sales departments made reading some of those early 80's JLA stories frustrating because the big characters with their own books were often away in their own titles....so you mostly were reading the second stringers anyways. So to me,as a kid.... it was them finally just being honest. lol. So, at the time , I like the JLA-Detroit era all the way into the post Giffen/Dematteis JLI era and even kinda liked the "Leather Jacket Avengers"...but I also admit that 1. The reasoning was flawed as keeping Cap out of Avengers does not mean more people will read Cap. 2. Bad writing will kill any line up no matter how good or bad. The CROSSING killed Avengers and the JLA's audience got needlessly split into 3 teams and two of them were awful. "JLTF was interesting". 3. Sadly, by taking the big sellers off the titles, the titles got less attention in company-wide storylines. They began to treat them like second stringers and the audience could feel that. So, by the time you were reading....it had gone on waay too long and like i said before...bad writing trying to be X-Men, instead of being what they were about and who they were.
That's the thing. By the time I showed up, the premiere teams were full of characters who had their time, and then were pushed into boxes they were never going to fit into. There's some great stuff from across the decades, but the day-to-day stuff had some pretty rough times.
@@comicpop I can't disagree with you and be intellectually honest. lol. I will only add that I think what may actually have been a bigger problem was that Avengers, Fantastic Four and JL-A-EJ-TF were not just trying to imitate the X-Men/Image look cosmetically but also in story content. I mean the Avengers during this time were dealing with a "mysterious" villain "Proctor" who is actually one of them "Han Solo-Black Knight" from a dark and gloomy " alternate timeline, followed by the adult future versions of children "Luna and Tuc" coming back to the past from a horrible future...blah blah blah. Over in Fantastic Four, almost the exact same plot with Hyperstorm, Teenage Franklin and Nathaniel Richards. ETC...ETC....ETC... I think that the Leather Jacket Avengers line up could have actually made it...if they had actually let them be the AVENGERS.
I think the new covers will work better. It took me a bit to start watching back issues and discovering comicpop, even after seeing yalls videos in the search feed or suggested videos but that red couch eventually caught my eye and now I'm hooked!
My favorite comic book team is definitely pre-new-52 Birds of Prey. But Kim&Kim from Black Mask is pretty great, too. Great episode! I always enjoy Elseworlds Exchange on Fridays!
I would love to see Jack Flagg and Major Victory on Guardians again. Sal and I seem to have opposite tastes. I loved cosmic marvel in the 90s. Sal digs on X-factor investigations from time to time, and its one of my favorite runs from an x-men spinoff which... ironically has both Wolfsbane and Strong guy on it. But at least we can both agree that we both love comics.
Excalibur, Justice League International and 80s era X-men were my favorite teams. JLI was actually my first ever comic so it has sentimental value for me.
I don't comment on most of them because I usually listen via podcast app but EE is my work podcast and lovw it for it. Back to work... To comment on subject matter the book that got me back into comics as adult was X Factor detective agency run. Not the best written but holds a soft spot in me old withered heart
1 X-Men until about 2000 or so....not so much after although uncanny x force was nice....nowadays to many time displaced characters,to many events, don't like trying to combine xmen and avengers together either just dilutes the stronger brand(xmen) 2 New Teen titans especially perez run 3 Fantastic Four great book loved it in the 80s and she hulk made for a surprisingly nice fit when ben was away..the early run was great as well introduced so many key characters galactus, the watcher, silver surfer you name it I like the runaways, birds of prey, suicide squad, classic new mutants and Excalibur.
Top Ten Favorite Teams: Unity (Valiant) Avengers (Marvel) Xmen (Marvel) Heroes for Hire (Marvel) JLA (DC) Fantastic Four (Marvel) Teen Titans (Marvel) TMNT Power Rangers Transfotmers
This isn't really an established team like Avengers or Teen Titans but they are still a team. Ant-Man's Security Solutions team, Ant-Man, Giant-Man, Grizzly, Machinesmith and Mrs Morgenstern, and then you also had Miss Thing and Beetle that would sort of help out now and again. Just a real fun team to read about. I'm not saying this is the best team in comics, it's just one of my favourites.
Best comic team? Thunderbolts hands down. Has alot of great runs and rosters that are underrated but the best incarnation has to be Luke Cage's heroic age team.
I know Sal and Joel might of not been fans of the X-men Prime issue that came out this week, but I though it was actually pretty good. I think it is a much better starting point for the X-men in the Marvel Universe. Other than the comparisons to the Inhumans thing at the beginning it which they might of took to seriously. It is basically a rebirth for the X-men where they are actually going to be relevant.
My favorite teams are: 1: West Coast Avengers 2: JSA (Geoff Johns) 3: Great Lakes Avengers 4: Warriors Three 5: Justice League International and Detroit 6: X-Men (Claremont) 7: Brotherhood of Evil Mutants 8: B.P.R.D. 9: Doom Patrol (Silver-Age version) 10: Fantastic Four

Legion of Superheroes I really like, and as a kid I never gave them a chance same thing with JSA, actually Rob from Comicsexplained kept talking about the JSA on twitter until I finally gave in lol But now I think there pretty awesome ( it would be so dope if Jonathan Hickman started writing them and had Jason Fabok and Gary Frank on as artist)
I waited patiently for Alpha Flight to get brought up and i get "they existed". Man... I really like Alpha Flight. Pick Northstar and Aurora are interesting characters. Did you know they were the first super hero team to be based on/for a country
I don't know which publishers they belonged to, but I read them as a kid. What's a team that has a probably bulletproof man, with a blue t-shirt and an M on the chest, cyborg lady, a were wolf guy, a multi-armed spider-ish guy or girl (I can't remember if it was a guy or a guy)? There's more in the team but I don't remember any more. Anyone, please?

Do y'all consider the GL Corps a team? Geoff Johns wrote some pretty interesting Lanterns besides the human ones in his run. I rather liked The Others from Aquaman volume 2. I didn't read the actual title, "Aquaman and the Others".
I liked the idea of Aquaman leading a team years before Justice League: Origin. It also gives some context for why he suggests he be the leader of the League when they first get together. Technically, the was the only one who had any previous leadership experience. And the neat idea that his trident was one of seven (I think) ancient relics and each of his teammates had a piece, each that granted some mystical ability.

What I got out of this video is that Joel will read any team book unless it's written by Scott Lobdell, maybe
Or Chuck Austen. ;)
Birds of Prey are awesome, so is the Doom Patrol. When it comes to villains, I love The Rogues.
Minstrel I actually enjoyed the new 52 version
Minstrel Yes the Birds of Prey are amazing
I’ve loved the rouges ever since that Justice League episode where they try to kill the Flash on his appreciation day
