we took a spring out of my 3.8s the pwer of the spring is incredible it was very exciting such as to make us look in the manual that said we needed a tool ! but this tool is far better and a lot less dangerous than plan A was ,bless your heart sir !! who needs churchill when you can have mciever!
Thank You So Much for the repeated disclaimer and warnings about the dangers and safety of the pounds per pressure of the coil springs. Just like you said, "Easy but Safe!"
It's a good idea to put a bright paint witness mark on the threaded rod so you can make sure you're not unscrewing the rod itself when you think you are lowering the plate
Thats awesome, easy and safe... will save me a lot of work, as I planned to manufacture a spring tool according to some internet discussion manuals.... Thank you!
This looks a lot safer than using spring clamps. I'm going to be doing this on my XJ6 which has the same or similar spring setup. Thanks so much, this was the one thing that I was concerned about
4:30 you are checking heights etc. That is straight off the hoist, yes - with zero settling of suspension, springs, etc? What was the height like after a few days? And, what suspension height are you aiming for, and where are you measuring it? It actually looks too low, but is hard to tell.
The springs were used springs so the vehicle didn't settle any lower. This not a Jaguar and weighs only 700 kg over the front axle, some 300 kg less than a Jag.
@@racecraftqldaustralia5633 Thanks for the reply. I had assumed you were getting new springs made, hence the q on settling. Also - for the height, did you use the "eyeball the lower arm" method, or did you take measurements? I am fitting one to an old Ford, and am leaning towards measuring the bottom of cross member (obviously i need to take into account height of my tyres compared to factory Jag).
I have a questiun....what matirial is used for the spring ? I have a friend and he is also doing the same.....but he needs springs 20mm shoter and 100 kg lighter..... But what matirial ?? So he can order some ...
Hi Dean, unfortunately I can't be much help with springs. I used a second hand pair a friend pulled out of a Jag that was lowered and needed to be raised back to standard height.
No, sorry I don't they were used springs I got from a friend who wanted to return his Jag to standard height. From memory they were 2 inches shorter than springs I took out. Outside diameter was the same.

Oh god, that helped so much... I was pretty scared to do this job before I saw the video... Thanks so much 🙏
likewise, i'm doing this on an xjs, this was a huge help to watch someone do this, thanks!

It's just a normal socket, cut in. half, with a piece of tube welded in the two halves
very good thankyou, I needed to put springs back that I didnt remove so this helped A LOT

good writeup..what was the spring part no u had it in the car ..? thanks
Great video, very helpful, thanks
When you changed springs what springs dis you use to replace stock spring ?

I have a 1930 ford with '67 jag mark 2 front end. Can I just cut the springs? If so how much? Or what weight springs should be used?
Thanks 👍

Where to buy the lower springs?
what springs did you end up using...? i have to do the same thing
Hi Dean, unfortunately I can't be much help with springs. I used a second hand pair a friend pulled out of a Jag that was lowered and needed to be raised back to standard height.
Just some secondhand springs I got from a friend.
What spring did you end up useing
Brilliant stuff
Great video and tips on removing the springs. Did you build the socket extension?
Yes I did, I cut the original socket in half then welded a piece of tube between the two halves.
Racecraft QLD Australia Looks like it works great. Thank you for the help and for the response!
Great explaination , Thanks alot
Wear did you buy that hollow long adapter
It looks like a diy job, simple if you have an old socket, tube and welder!
Any chance that you have the OD and height of the uncompressed spring?
No, sorry I don't they were used springs I got from a friend who wanted to return his Jag to standard height. From memory they were 2 inches shorter than springs I took out. Outside diameter was the same.
Ya clever bugger!!
Where could I get a long socket extension in the UK?
Sorry. Just noticed your reply. Very useful
