Fabulous Luke came by Sweet Silence Studio in Copenhagen to lay down a few solos on Mike Tramp's third solo album.
The album "More To Life Than This" also included a guest appearance by Eric Johnson and was produced by Flemming Rasmussen.
Bonus info:
Luke is playing a Gibson Les Paul, that was brought to the session by manager and record label executive Ulf Zick.
The video was recorded by Nicholas Findsen, who played bass on the album.
Seen listening alongside Ulf in the clip is Kasper Foss (drums) and Todd Wolfe (guitar).
Awesome footage, thanks!
Man.. this is why I’m a Lukather fan. His feel, timing, groove, sound and phrasing are just perfect👌🏻
Listen to how good Luke is. This is a session musician and that is how it is done!!
Damn, just when you thought you heard all of Luke’s usual licks,he summons up Angus just like that, no wonder he’s been on over 2000 recordings! Navy seal of session musos!😎
I have no more words of praise to give to Luke. I have said them all. My first guitar hero and still is!
All professional Session Players in a Studio I saw, are sitting on a chair . Luke ist standing and gives the Producer 4 or 5 perfect Variations of a Solo on a borrowed Guitar. He has his Sound and you will hear no bad tone . Genius.
People sit, people kneel, people stand, I've had people do tracks on the can... so none of that is special. It's work. And multiple versions is often the job. The fact that in any position, he delivers and all are usualble! That is the pro part.
Session/Studio's work is H-A-R-D!No matter HOW perfect you think your work is,a fresh set of ears will come in and hear the flaws!!
Amazing to see Luke work out a complete solo like this. Thanks for posting!
Man....the first take was UNBELIEVABLE !!!!! Luke is amazing !
The first take was perfect !!!
Somehow Luke interpreted our lack of reaction as dissaticfactin - and kept on trying to nail what we were searching for
(you can hear our nervous laughter when he asks if “it is the right vibe”) 🤩
The truth is that we were blown away and startruck 🥰
Sorry Luke ♥️
Killer licks from the Master himself it's one thing to learn them but to come up with them is a whole different ball game
Luke could not be MORE expressive if the guitar was a voice. He might be the best guitarist of the time… he’d certainly be in the running. 👍🏼
Steve Lukather is so cool. Riping licks and just straight up cool dude.
Every take was good.
God that first take was the best one!
I don't get tired of listening to this solo 100 times!
All killer and no filler--Steve Lukather kicked that ass!
My gosh, Luke is truly Guitar Master
Thank you so much for this brother 🙏
Killer player... one of thee best!
Tone, technique and feel...

Steve es una bestia de la guitarra!!!
A professional at work🤷♂️. By the way it's the 1st time I see 7 minutes of Lukather's back🤣
The Drummers View 😍🥁👍
That’s how we see everybody all the time - even Luke 😘🙏❤️
@@kasperfoss5818 True! I heard Simon Phillips once joking about it 👍🏼
With the rainforest-although are actually palm leaves!-shirt!I want It!🌞👍🤩😍😁😄
Steve, are you fed up of socials?Word of mouth
Mr. Lukather is a genius on the guitar.
The master! 👍🙏
I'd love to see more videos of Steve, in studio...just working things out.
Thanks for that............ Brilliant.
Luke is so great....😎🎸
So good...
So unique and original
A master at work.
uf sin palabras, que maestro!!!
Big fan of Toto since I heard Hold the line. Luke is just the shit.Awesome guitar player, tone, technique phrasing.❤❤🤘🤘
holy crap. what a master
Just ridiculous!!!♥️♥️
Epic..! 🙏🤠👍
Awesome!
The Maestro.
DON'T HURT'EM LUKE!!
Very interesting to see him play Les Paul type guitar, not Musicman Luke guitar. Sounds great as always!
Luke dropped by the studio on his way to a sound check with Toto. He just grabbed a Les Paul that was already there and plugged it directly into one of the house amps - and right away it sounded like Lukather ♥️
The GOAT!
10/10
GOAT.
This is a video of a person doing their thing well. I am trying to use less emphatics and hyperbole lately.
I respect your pursuit.
tbh I'd have been stopping for a redo by the third second
Here’s the version that ended up on the album. Besides the main solo Luke is also kicking everybody’s ass in the outro 🥰🎸
Two other solo’s from that afternoon session was released.

The master !!! Wat amps use Luke in 1992 ? Sound like a good JCM800 or JCM900 !
He’s using rental amps here his gear was already loaded in to a venue for a Toto concert.
👍♥️ Actually I think is was one of the house amps in Sweet Silence Studio where we recorded.
Luke didn't bring a guitar either.
He just grabbed a Les Paul that was already there and plugged it straight into the amp - and right away it sounded like Lukather ♥️
@@kasperfoss5818 Thank you for your response Budy 😃❤️. Luke's fingers are unique. I saw him last night in Paris in concert with his Bogner Hélios, he sounded awesome! 🤩
What kind of guitar he's playing in this video/rec?
A Gibson Les Paul - as mentioned in the discription.
Luke came by the studio on his way to a soundcheck with Toto - and his guitars were already at the concert venue.
So he just grabbed our tourmanagers Les Paul and blew everybody away ;-) Amazing ❤️
Fedt at høre!
Yes man ♥️ De er fordelt over to Mike Tramp albums. På More To Life Than This fra 2003 giver Luke den gas på Live For Today og I Won’t Let Go - og Eric Johnson på The Good, the Sad and the Ugly.
Den 3. Luke solo ligger på Songs I Left Behind fra 2004 og tracket hedder Do It While You Can.
De ligger vist alle på RUclips…
@@kasperfoss5818 Tak, dem vil jeg tjekke ud 😊
Hey Luke plays Les Paul 😁😁😁
Luke dropped by the studio on his way to a sound check with Toto. He just grabbed a Les Paul that was already there and plugged it directly into one of the house amps - and right away it sounded like Lukather ♥️
Do I spot 3 480L controllers?
I “only” see two ;-)
@@jamfan702 two on the console, another one sitting atop the meter bridge to the left.
Oh right 👍 When it comes to Lexicons, more is more - You can never have too many 🤩
they're like, "that first take makes the singer sound weak. Please re-do it."
♥️ I was there and I honestly think it was more like, there was no “grown ups” in the room (including myself) to just say: We got it! 🥰🙏♥️
Mike Tramp solo album? Or is Luke handing Mike’s guitar player his ass?
At the time we were recording there really wasn’t a Tramp band - and a particular guitar player for Luke to hand his ass to 🤩😂❤
Ive had a long-held belief...that he is a better player of the guitar...than Eddie Van Halen. Definitely a more well rounded musician. Eddie was ground-breaking in the beginning...absolutely, but then...he became more adverse to just making "squeals and groans", then doing any ACTUAL melodic playing. Eddie attacked the guitar....Steve, plays it. Steve plays a wide swath of styles...Eddie, not so much. Like I said, I appreciate Ed for what he initially gave us...but Steve...he's next level on hw he cares about what sounds right...instead of HIM making sounds.
The chord progression is a little odd, not easy to play a melody over IMO
I'm a Lukather fan 4kife - not sorry
Lol
I play and sound a bit like SL
Everyone always bitching about me overplaying
All about that tone baby
steve I thought you could do it in one take?
Guitar keeps going out of tune.
Not so good Luke u should call up Eddie
