Luke is one of the best guitarists in the world and is so down to earth. I had the pleasure of meeting him once. He was so cool and so laid back and humble. One of the highlights of my life.
Never met him but I was always impressed that as great as he is he always said "thanks" with a smile to his guitar techs as they would had him his guitar as he went on stage. Good guy.
A fantastic versatile musician. Guitar god, pianist, singer, songwriter, producer, arranger.... professional. Can play every genre... just look at his recording catalogue. Several other guitarist have gotten more recognition, but few if any can blend as well as Luke. Glad to see him getting the recognition he deserves.
本人が言っているようにディレイ無しの歪だけの音が聞きたかったですね。 私の好きなギタリストは若い頃のルカサー。当時はとっても凄かった。HOLD THE LINE やGIRL GOODBYEのギターソロ。今聞いても涙もんです。 BAKED POTATO SUPER LIVEの頃が懐かしい!! 因み小生、還暦前のおっさんです(^_^;)
Luke is one of the greatest!!! When I heard toto 1st time hold the line, we all said whos that guitar player. Oh yeah he's in his own league 4 sure. Love listening to him just jam around smooth as butter. Stay healthy my friend..
Thank you for this video! I ADORE Luke. His newest disc is stellar. I had the honor to interview him back in 1999, when Toto came to Reno. He was kind, funny and had an inviting spirit about him that is still with him to this day. Great guy and an important influence on my own guitar playing,
From the opening notes of Child's Anthem, I've been in love with Luke and Toto I've been blessed in meeting my IDOL on each of his Australian Tours with Toto (and G3). I remember their 1992 Kingdom of Desire tour walked up to him after the gig and said "Luke...you're a God" to which he replied...."Nah man....I'm just a dude". He's so fucking humble. I realised at this first gig that he actually holds back on his recordings and seeing him cut loose fucking blew my mind. I was lucky to have him sign my 'Luke' during their 2008 tour - which will never be sold so don't ask me please. And to blow my mind, he remembered when I caught up with him in meet & greet of the G3 show. Forever in my mind, greatest of all time.
Steve, thanks so much for your humble attitude and of course your Massive body of work! You're are The Best ! Always loved The Outro on Running With The Night & Hold You Back Now... Love your technic! Long Live Luk !
The most important issue with guitar playing is staying relaxed in both right and left hands when trying to play fast. Steve doesn’t force anything past his mechanical ability ,like some others do. He is working with whatever tools he has and doing a fantastic job. My alltime favorite
I ordered the printed version a few days ago…haven’t been that excited about waiting for a book in the mail since the Montgomery Ward Christmas catalog when I was a kid 🤩
Steve inspires me in this video. When I practice I just try to play what feels good and sounds good to me. If I don't like the way it sounds, who else will?
so true... on the road your chops reach a level you never thought you could get to. You never think it will go away, but it just takes 6-8 months of relax and it's gone again ..
After 40 odd years in the guitar wilderness i've finally picked up my guitar and started playing again because of Steve. Thank you for being so inspirational. You are a legend, Sir👍
Yeah, totally agree with his approach. Amazing player. Been listening to his 4 last album. Hadn't done that in a while. They are so profound. Music that lasts. It's not just about guitar. The drums, bass, keyboards and vocals are so so good. And it's rarely boring.
Thanks Mr. Luke! That's also the reason why I don't like to reach for the usual pentatonic notes when phrasing. Use them sometimes, not always since I don't want to be a blues player or boxed into that blues/rock vibe that everyone and their aunt plays. If it sounds good and the song calls for it though, then go for it.
Most pop music has become the equivalent of fast food. Nothing but formulas instead of recipes, full of unhealthy ingredients. Addictive, but nothing but empty calories that does not feed you, and when I mean you, I mean soul.
Key takeaway: “If you hear music in your head, you’ll find a way to get it out!” So true! Technique may be good. Equipment is not really important. If you’re good and just work with what you have to the best of your ability, you’ll go somewhere eventually!
I have seen some of the world’s best players including Eric Johnson. When I saw Toto, I realized that I have finally seen the best guitar player in the world...Steve Lukather.
Luke is Michael Jordan, or if you are closer, Michelangelo of guitar art. The solos at "Creep Motel" is absolutely stunning! Absolutely divine! Outrageously musical. I think this solos sounds in hell when the devil wants to hear what successes have been achieved by those who sold their souls to him. :)
I used to love Yngwie early to mid 80s, but he just got boring to me. Steve keeps things fresh and always melodic, bluesy, and tasteful. overall a great player that can play ANYTHING.
Ed never said that. This is such an overused thing. Steve Lukather is amazing and I have massive respect for him. I don’t like fake quotes though and this format has been used to death. Let me try. Jimmi Hendrix is asked “how does it feel to be the greatest guitarist in the world” and he answers “I don’t know, ask Machine Gun Kelly”. 😁
" there is no right and wrong way to play as long as you can make music" i love that, great advise .S.L. Im almost anti theory I play what i hear in my head
anti theory you said? hahaha it's a theory of groove using a swing stroke to maintain the consistency or continous rythmic sounds in any order of the chromatic scales. even victor wooten already revealed that theory. generally, its from the ancient theory of music.
I would like to drink a beer with Steve man, he is funny and i could learn a ton from him. My biggest lesson was that i always struggled with calluses, especially after showers i did not let my fingers dry, when bending alot on 0.10 sets you can start over again and the process of growing calluses is very tedious untill i started playing 0.09 to 0.42 set of strings, now i never have to worry again when i bend of take a shower the strings are much easier.
I love Luke to the Moon. But I think he would be the first person to say that there is no such thing as a “best” guitar player. Everyone has their favorites, but music in general and guitar playing In particular are not Olympic competitions. Eric Johnson is almost not of this planet, but he is so different from Luke, or Larry Carlton, or Elmore James or Charlie Christian or Duane Allman that comparisons are meaningless. If anyone equates greatness with technical ability, they’re not listening.
One of the strangest things about his playing is how he holds the pic so far back on his thumb. He holds it almost in between the first and second joints
Luke is one of the greatest guitarists on earth!!
No, He is THE best

Ditto. Same experience. My feelings exactly.
Agreed, I met him once for a moment, he was very nice and even let me take a picture with him, an amazing guitar player and a very nice person.
Never met him but I was always impressed that as great as he is he always said "thanks" with a smile to his guitar techs as they would had him his guitar as he went on stage. Good guy.

If I could read what you wrote... I would probably agree.... Well said. hmmm?
This video is a gem, he seldomly talks about his playing or demonstrates things because he feels uncomfortable about it, but it's great.
Man!! There is ONLY one LUKE who sounds like LUKE.... AMAZING melodies and sounds...ALWAYS supercool
I like how he says just figure out your own sound/style. Doesn't matter as long as you are making music.
He does get recognition from his peers. I think even Richie Blackmore once stated that Lukather is a great guitarist.

Steve Lukather is so cool he has to wear sunglasses inside his house.

Besides his talent and infectious personality, I love Luke’s enthusiasm, always the same as day one!

Luke, one of my favourite guitarplayers. And a kind person too!

You need to check out his Audio book. Amazing history.

The Gospel: also check out the audiobook, Steve breathes fresh life into the writing, he’s a funny bugger. Shame about all the pain. Love you, Steve!
Unreal. Luke just so far exceedingly greater than anyone. He is music, plays any genre master class. One of the most important musicians of our time.

Next to Eddie Van Halen Lukather is a top notch guitarist. Toto as a band created fantastic music. GOD what happened to Music these days?

I used to love Yngwie early to mid 80s, but he just got boring to me. Steve keeps things fresh and always melodic, bluesy, and tasteful. overall a great player that can play ANYTHING.
