Toto is a band where musicianship is nothing short of greatness. I'm a metalhead but Toto is probably the only non meta band I am proud to listen to outside metal. Steve is mainly the reason, he's one prolific musician not just on the guitar but in song writing as well. Long live Toto.
@@eddyrox5150 Me too I think Toto would have been more accepted if they weren't named Toto, its like a band being named Pookie or Buttercup...just sayin'
Metalhead too, although my hair is no longer long...I appreciate Death, King Diamond, Megadeth, Slayer, Sepultura, Judas Priest...and surely enough I love Michael Landau, Allan Holdsworth, Larry Carlton, Frank Gambale, Roben Ford, Al DiMeola, Chris Poland, Alex Skolnick, Marty Firedman...And of course Luke ! Toto is nothing short of fantastic. Cheers from Morocco.
Wish Steve would go back to his big rack ! His tones during the 90s where unbelievable! I’ve seen him recently and his sound is so one dimensional now ! Bring back the grease !!
I saw that tour in Wolverhampton and as much as Luke is one of my favourite guitarists, I spent the whole night watching the drummer keep his 2 roadies so busy re-assembling the kit as he smashed it to bits
This man played on so many albums. Few realize when they listen to MJ's album "Thriller" it's all Lukather. Incredible talent. I know that every guitarist knows him so please don't trash me.
For the record, a plethora of musicians were used for the album Thriller. (Steve Lukather played on 3 tracks). (The girl is mine) which also featured Paul McCartney (Beat it) with Eddie Van Halen (Human nature) with Steve Porcaro and John Bettis.
Steve I met you when my buddy delivered some rings and other man jewels to you, slash, and some other cats at the viper room. You are a humbling talent with a great personality.
Love the french phrase written on the speaker in front of him "Do not touch otherwise dentist" Hahaha! tottaly SL humour. Amazing guitar player with one of the best guitars on the market and really funny guy.
Along the same lines ....... I was privy to witnessing a Ronnie Montrose sound check about 6 months before he died. Man ... was it incredible. Not only that but I was able to chat him up for a few minutes after. Will never forget it .....
Steve is a genius on guitar. He says he is the greatest thief, taking ideas from others.. but he is in his own league! He masters it all covering it with the Lukather sauce. Straight away you will hear it is him who plays the part in the many songs he contributed to. One of my heroes!!
Maura a mi también me gustaria conocerlo lo amo❤️❤️❤️ , cantar romántico el Tiene varias baladas con Totò y en solitario .y si tiene una hermosa carita y mirada súper tierna 🧡❤️🤗🤩💕
Knob settings aren't the key to sounding like him. To sound like him you have to play exactly like him and use equipment with a similar sound. It's not the knobs on the amp, it's everything else.
He must have been using his gain boost on his guitar for a little extra umph when he needs it during this tour. That or using the compressor to drive the front end a bit.
pensare che dovevo venirci anch'io a quel concerto...peccato...speriamo che presto torni in Italia, vista anche l'uscita del nuovo album..covid permettendo ovviamente
Maurizio Michelotti ~ 49 unique frequencies can be played on a 24 fret six string . When you take into account adding bends or whammy bar or slide you could count those to infinity . But where's that leave Steve Lukather ? Is there such a thing as infinity times Steve ? Or maybe a Lukather length ? An off the off the chart measurement where infinity equals one and Lukather equals everything after that . lol something IDK when you watch him it makes you wonder if God is taking music lessons from him you know what I mean ?
@@lori_ginale9621 Yeah, it is, but it doesn't have the WOW factor of his over-the-top Mesa/Bradshaw rig, which could send chills up and down my spine. Now he sounds a lot more like everybody else.
Guitarists, help me!! I'm 53, so I guess I'm old school. that being said, how is it he has what looks and plays like a Floyd Rose but theres no locking nut at the headstock and he tunes it via the pegs and not the saddle? What has changed, cuz I always HATED that you had to unlock the motherfucker to get handle any major out of tuneage situations!
One of the things that has changed is locking tuners. You put just a little bit of the string into the tuning peg, turn the cap on the tuner, and it "locks" the string on the peg and very little winding to bind. I had a guitar with a Wilkinson trem system, no locking nut and it worked quite well. However, it did not respond like a Floyd did. It did not have the bounce and flutter a floyd provides. I might also mention that when the FLoyd is setup properly, it is as stable or more than say typical LP/strat. I am CONSTANTLY tuning my LP, Tele, and 335, but Floyd is always very close. If you're having big trouble with your Floyd, you're doing it wrong.
D Grundman Part of what changed on this guitar is, like the other poster said, there are locking tuners. The headstock angle also eliminates the need for string trees and keeps the string in the nut better. Steve has his setup free floating so he can get the Floyd "flutter". I imagine if he broke a string it would go wildly out of tune like a Floyd. It also makes it hard to alter tunings without the whole thing going squirrely.
You’re so right! I have Japan version of Los Lobotomy’s “Candyman” (Which you should absolutely checkout!) which has a bonus track! Luke and the boys are performing an absolutely incredible version Hendrix’s “Red House”! Luke breaks a string and yells “F’n broke a Goddamn string! And on this F'n guitar listen to what it F’n sounds like!” Then he strikes a chord way out of key! As it fades out Luke’s children can be heard singing lines from Sammy Davis Jr.’s “The Candyman” to which Luke laughs and responds “That was perfect”!My version of the album had a bonus track where Luke and the boys were performing an incredible version of Hendrix's "Red House" until Luke broke a string! Ciao Maurizio, grazie per questo bellissimo video.

Great upload! Thank you...love me some Luke
Best tone he's ever had... more open and natural than his old rack unit sound. Love his Transition pickups too.
I own one of these. The pick ups are stunning, the playability and tactile neck make this one hell of a unit
I prefer his mid 80s rack sound by far. This just sounds too raw for me. Still love Steve all the same, though!
