Hi, Uli Rodenberg is a guy from the middle of Germany, I mean Fulda. He's developing pedals since years now. Steve used the Drive pedal Rodenberg GAS 808 NG since years on his boards. It is like a modded Tube Screamer. The SL-OD Pedal was the successor developed with Mr Lukather. Since some weeks there is the SL-OD Deluxe available. All pedals can be purchased as single ones, as far as i know. Ask Uli Rodenberg directly. He ist such an nice guy and supports all of his customers very friendly. I have all of Lukes pedals. The newest one Deluxe is now in my board 😅
Lukather is a monster guitarist/ musician in my world of influences. I have his signature bridge pickups in several guitars with a coil split switch. They are fantastic. I think I will check out this OD pedal. Great review!
I don't understand it either... I found out about this pedal accidently, wrote to Ulrich Rodenberg and exchanged emails with him, what a nice guy! I decided to buy it directly from him (from Germany), it came out much cheaper than ordering from Reverb. It is three quality pedals in one, you can turn one, two or three. I highly recommend it!
Good honest review demonstrating both what sounds good and what doesn't. So many reviewers run those overdrives into clean amps and pretend it sounds good. You used the pedal as it is meant to be used.
I've had this pedal for a few years now, it's very good and Uli is always at hand to answer any questions, there is an updated version just released this month with an option to have the clean boost pre or post, all excellent quality.. Tip, your amp has got to be set right .. a Marshall on medium gain is a good place to add it to.
Steve Lukather and Alex Lifeson have been my favorites for decades! They are both hilarious too! Wonder if they’ve ever hung🤔🤔Anyway great pedal Mike👍👏🏼👏🏼👍
You are right, i have tried this pedal during the guitar summit 2024, and Uli has says all the story of this pedals (uli is a very amazing person) and now exsist two version of this pedal, one that is in a blue color with a little difference on the circuit for more distorsion, i dont know why is difficult to find demo of it
Might be a nice addition to my Twin Sister/pedal board rig. Edit: They make the clean boost as a stand alone pedal. "SL Clean Boost - Steve Lukather Signature"
his last two albums were awesome and you also have two amazing songs Dragon song and acceptance , also the pedal sounds killer , cheers Michael and have a good day dude .
This is under £200 in the UK?! That's pretty incredible, I really need to give one a try. With a "dirty-clean" setting on my plexi I bet this would kick ass!
I heard about Rodenberg first because of Tyler Briant Shakedown drive pedal, I bought one in 2020, it is like having a TS standard + a TS "modded" version in same pedal. The Steve Lukather pedal was already in the product list, but I wanted something with a smaller footprint to place in my board... from your video I regret I didn't get it.
the Anderton guys noticed (I heard it too) a clean/direct signal on the od channels which doesn't sound really good with a clean amp. The blue deluxe version(, (boost/dist/OD) is even more versatile
Hello Michael. I just saw that Rodenberg bring on the market this "clean boost" you re talking about, as a stand alone pedal. Your wish have been heard. 😊😊😊
Hi Michael, I got the SL-OD in use since about 2 years and it is a really astonishing thing. Didn't know about Rodenberg either till I got that pedal from Thomann. Just to learn that they are manufacturing it 50 miles from here where I live.:-) Awesome company. Check out their other stuff. They are very very nice people there. Greetings from the "Rodenberg-area"!
Love Lukather and his tones. The ecstacy era was great, but my favorite tones he ever got were using a Rev Green Uber with his early lukes on Video Game soudtracks.
@@BigHairyGuitars If you youtube the orginal Dragon Ball Z Budokai 1-2 OST you will stumble upon him right away! The ost has actually been removed from the future games because plagiarism, but Steve/Toto plays alongside tower of power on these tracks. Check out: -Fortitude Indomitable Spirit -Big Opportunity He's all over the first few Budokai games and in the making of the soundtrack you can see him cranking a Rev Green on an orginal Luke
He’s had the Rodenberg for 7 years. He also has a signature Distillery pedal he isn’t currently using. I have the single channel version of the Rodenberg,
I have seen it on his board for a while. And the Tech said it was more for the boost as he uses the Bogner dirty channel. It's funny how some pedals just don't work with Fender amps, and I guess that's the scooped mids. Pedals always seems better through EL34 style amps even on the clean channel. I have the SOLDANO SLO Drive and that works! But I had to sell my Friedman OD, as it just didn't work.
I didn't even know this existed!!! Need just because for... reasons LOL!!! He usually runs only one channel of his Helios with a ton of gain. This must be for whatever kick the 20db boost on his guitars doesn't provide LOL!!!
All pedal demos should be done dry (other than the pedal), showing the “clean” sound immediately after or before. Just my take. Love your playing, tone and channel. Cheers.
Rodenberg also makes a signature pedal for Tyler Bryant, which is more of a TS style pedal. I wish some pedal company would get the T. Jauernig Bombastortion pedal cloned, which is another favorite of Steve's and is no longer made.
great video, I think having both Channels Bass on in the pedal does not sound good....but cool pedal!! I guess the 20 db boost is with the level at max? that does not sound like a 20 db .... that Tyler sounds amazing
Steve Lukather is my Spirit Animal. People don't give him enough praise..if you think about the proportionality of it all. But hey...not everybody gets it. And thats ok.
Damn, I didn't know this existed. I remember all the old rack processors that had some kind of "Luke" setting. He hated it because most of them were garbage sounds.

I've got three reasons why people are talking about this pedal: 1. It's an overdrive 2. it looks like the control panel of a hair dryer from the 70's 3. Who's Steve Lukather?

@BigHairyGuitars what? Can't believe.
Tyler Bryant also has a signature pedal, the TB Drive, by Rosenberg
I am using this pedal for two years and i´m happy with it. I use it in front of an overdriven amp and so it does Steve Lukather
Have it for two years, my favorite overdrive, it is the most authentic sounding drive, it does not colour the sound of the amp.

The jewel lights were a classy touch. Nice.
Great video. I actually like the overdriven tones into my clean Marshall amp.

Steve Lukather is the best! Great guy, great humor, totally humble and just the baddest of the bad! All time hero!

Totally. Steve Lukather is my Eddie Van Halen. Eddie is my Hendrix… Vai is my Yngwie… the rest gets really confusing 🤣

i have one of steves pedals: tc flashback ii. 80 bucks used. steve morse got 3.
Those are great. They just work, and sound great!
The overlooked/underated guitarist Ian Crichton from Saga is kind of Luke's cousin, but no pedal can get Crichton's sound.
In the late 80s, in Toronto I played every Sunday night at the palace jam, Ian came by one Sunday, and played some songs with us, good times

and that's why you don't buy signature pedals...the artist gets bored very soon and needs a new,"better" one

Because you can do all that with any tube amp and overdrive pedal and eq plus a cab impulse response. Or with a Kemper, Axe-Fx, etc.
Mmmm. Ya I’d take a Friedman Ir d over this pedal. Or mezzabarba overdrive
The IRD is great. Not a drive pedal. It could certainly replace an amp. Are you talking about the Mezza tube drive pedal? I heard that's great!
