How Lars manages to be a ‘terrible’ drummer yet the drummer for Metallica & the dude who has created some of the most memorable drum beats of all time is incomprehensible to me.
Because Lars stopped practicing and evolving as a player. After Black Album he just gave up. I’m guessing it was because he found a financially winning formula of not taking more creative attempts, or exploring other keys/beats/time signatures, and sticking to the basics. Basically a formula of low effort, high reward. Says a lot about his musicianship AND his businesslike mindset. He’s definitely a genius businessman. Not so much a musician.
@@TheKvn91 Aha, but he stopped. Transcendental musicians keep improving and finding that great tune they’ve never written. Lars was on that path until money changed him. To me personally makes him an extremely mediocre musician who was too comfortable and scared to keep writing. Vinnie Paul’s drums in every album of Pantera changed drastically and evolved. Lars devolved.
Like, that's actually Lars'ses unique drumming technique, no he's not playing it maximizing every tempo there is, but he's actually playing drums like a guitar trying to take his sort of "chords"/"riffs", and james with his down picking is actually playing guitar but in insane tempos as if he played drums...
