I just wanted to say that I first watched the film when I was at my worst from my addiction. I would watch sometimes on days I was going through bad withdrals, over and over. Seeing you all struggle, seeing what you guys went through actually helped to strengthen the realization that I need to get help. I was losing people left right and center and I wanted out of life too. So its try again or die and I am so grateful that I chose to try that one last time and like on my 7th try with professional help, I have not used in 13 years now. I am doing well, quite well actually and I just wanted to thank you and every soul in that film with us or that have passed. All of your lives are meaningful to me 🙂. Your stories were a part of my recovery, a contributing factor in helping to save my life. I sincerely thank all of you from the bottom of my heart. True story 🙂 Thank you so much Tracey 😔
Why is it when you’re hanging out or craving a shot you always sit there and watch documentaries about addiction. I do it all the time, especially when I want to stay clean it’s the worst.
My teacher played this movie for the class when I was in high school in 2000. I was in a state of shock, it had such a big impact on me. Watching that was more than I ever needed to know about the stuff. I would recommend playing this to young people because I think it would prevent someone from trying it should they ever come across it. 21 years later, I am so glad to see that you have conquered your addiction and are living a healthy life. Congratulations and keep up the good work!
I’m not gonna lie I watched it when i was like 14-15 and started doing heroin at 15. I can’t say why it doesn’t put me off as much as it should but hey.
I literally just watched the documentary and your video popped up right after and i got so excited to see that you are doing so well. The film really expressed how much you wanted to get clean but were stuck in the cycle and fear was holding you back. So glad youre okay.

An underrated documentary about black tar heroin! You all were such Fascinating People you each had your own story of the hell that you were living! If you have not seen black tar heroin you are missing out the soundtrack is amazing as well. One of the last songs is called never lonely Alone by the band Space Needle epic song. Every time I hear that song the people in black tar heroin pops up in my head every single time. Glad to see you're doing well Tracy

I used to watch black tar all the time when I was going through withdrawals, honestly alot of the times I got jealous of you and others who were using in the documentary, so it made me want to go out and relapse. Even though the film showed that life was hell on heroin , I still only seen that injecting was all I wanted to do. Thankfully I've been clean 9 months now and this is the longest time I've got in the 8 years since I started using. But I still dream of using and fantasize about it almost daily. I miss it so much but I can't build up the courage to break my streak of time clean. Hopefully I never will go back to the drug. You inspire me that I can find another life.

Some of the stories really broke my heart, like Jessica's because terrible life events led her to a life of addiction. I hope she's ok, in the film they say she contracted HIV.

Hey Tracey! I saw the movie back in 2017 I think. I was in a drugs halfway house (recovering heroin addict and alcoholic) in S. FL following my first residential rehab stay in 2016, and yeah... That doc really a stuck with me, and I just found out today that you have social media and that you're in the recovery profession! Anyway, I spent a lot of time on dope and in the bottle, and after a few years of the revolving door era of detox clinics/hospitals, psych wards, rehabs, relapse, rinse and repeat, I finally have made it past 90 days and next thing I knew I had a year, and now I'm coming up on year 3 on 26APR2022! I too am pursuing a career in substance abuse treatment as an LCDC. I just have to my 300 hrs practicum, and then I graduate, and I still have like another 2 years or so of work to do to be able to practice, and school can be difficult for me some times, but hey, this is something I NEVER thought I'd do several years ago! I am on Suboxone, and I have been for most of my clean time and this is the first clean time that I've ever even seen or used subs, and yeah, some people would say I'm not really clean, but they don't realize that the criminal element is gone and I'm not a human pin cushion leaking blood anymore and using up resources getting rushed to the ER and whatnot, so I say F em and keep it rolling lol I am on a taper now though; 24mg for about 1½-2 years down to 18mg :) I know getting down to the last 2-4 mgs or so will be tough, but I believe in myself. I watched your 2017 video about HR/harm reduction, and I was learning about it in my DAAC classes, and even though I don't believe it would've worked for me personally in the past because I can't just have one or a little of something, but for people I used to know that I don't know anymore, I can see how HR could've helped them go in the best direction possible when lost in a maze of self destruction. I actually wrote a term paper about HR and did really good, even though it is still pretty controversial where I live amongst clinicians and people in recovery, and to that I say that things have changed and that recovery isn't a *one-size-fits-all" deal, and even different drugs require different approaches for success, and that MAT at one point wasn't accepted and was seen as cheating or whatever too at one point, but look where we're at now! Like me and the subs for example. This counselor I have now through the Veterans Administration, he's the first person ever to tell me back in 2019 that of all the drugs of abuse, opiate addicts have the lowest success rates of recovery, and with that, heroin users are even lower, and even further, IV heroin users (which was where I fell in) had the absolute lowest rates of success/clean time, lowest rates of long-term clean time, and depressingly highest rates of death among all different drugs of abuse and their users, and that for long-term IV heroin users, it's almost impossible to stay clean long-term without some type of medication assisted therapy, and so he recommended I try Suboxone, and with my rekindled relationship with God, and my amazing family, I have been able to do so much and succeed and function on levels I didn't think would ever be possible for me, and just finding out how much you turned around and how well you're doing (read about it in the comments of the movie) is really try inspiring, especially how the documentary said about only 1% of heroin addicts actually achieve clean time, so yeah, that's amazing. Anyway, sorry this comics so damn long! Haha I'm just super passionate about substance abuse and recovery from it and you talking about HR...
