Straddling the border between Switzerland and Italy, The Matterhorn it's one of the three great north faces of the Alps, its jagged edges tracing to a sharp point in the sky. While laypeople may only know it from the packaging of Toblerone chocolate bars, the Matterhorn has an illustrious history, particularly the stunning north face. Another milestone has now been entered into its timeline, as Swiss mountaineer Dani Arnold has set a blazingly fast new record on the route, reaching the summit in only 1 hour 46 minutes, shaving a full 10 minutes off Ueli Steck's record, set in 2009. See highlights of the climb in the video above.
It's considered to be one of the riskiest climbs in the Alps. In fact, the Matterhorn is one of the deadliest peaks in Europe, with over 500 alpinists believed to have died on the mountain. Big ups to Dani for pushing the limits of what he loves to do, and pull off one helluva climb.

Dang he did it in two minutes 13 seconds
Dude 🤣🤣 almost died of laughter because of that comment !! 🤣🤣 nice one!! 👍

@Privacy Matterson: and nobody would volunteer to carry a statue of the Holy Mother up there
even supremely confident in your ability to climb you still have to be slightly insane to do this
Worst part is going down. Then you HAVE to look down.
To people like him, 'insane' is sitting in an office 36 hours a week doing the same sh*t different day.
@@jakeappleton5583 Make that 40 - 50.
Tom Iovino this guy is in another level, he isnt a average human to think like average humans
some people's fear threshold is very high as is their confidence in their preparation and ability. We all have different levels. What I'd hate to be though is a "super-cautious" person who does nothing with his/her life for fear of danger. Might as well be dead in that case
RIP Ueli Steck
😢😢😢
Yea man a legend
I was at his graveyard. I was quite shocked because I didn't know he died a couple of months before
@Sam Rees Khumjung, Nepal
@@jeroenc222 was it Khumjung? I had so problems with all the Nepali names 😂
I met him in his hometown at the train Station. He was on his way to Pakistan to climb some 7000 meters mountains. A very nice and humble guy. Great sportsman and of course a worldclass mountaineer and climber. It was cool to talk to him a few minutes while we were waiting for our trains.
A lot of the great climbers like Guy Cotter and Ang Dorjee say this is the thing about sponsored expeditions and climbs, once you have been to the top, its no big deal, so it becomes a challenge more and more at the risk of your life to satisfy your sponsors.
Its not about time, i'd rather see someone ascend safely and rationally than zip up as fast as they can because the sponsor is paying it
Succinctly put and fully agree.
I thought the title for this said "World's Fattest Person to Climb the Matterhorn" and I was like no way.
Haha just see John cena stroll up it in his Gucci pans
SHREQUED john cena isn’t fat
and Kilian shut up ahaha
Technically, there is someone out there who holds that record. It's all a matter of who?
We should ask people who climbed this how much they weigh when they do this and We'll know
RIP Ueli Steck ….. great job Dani.
Dani be careful dude ….. if The Swiss Machine Ueli can make a deadly mistake then so can you.

Unfortunately climbers invite death to their door by doing what they do . It’s not a matter of how , Sadly It’s just a matter of when .
Some make it years ......others only months 😔
@@jasonshields515 Well just stay on your couch then dude.
3Vimages
I simply stated some truth , in a tactful way , yet have empathy as well due to understanding the desire of thrill seeking activities such as climbing (thus the word sadly, with a pause in my statement , as well as the first word I’m my comment ..”unfortunately “)
Your response is that of an over emotional granola who is in dire need of tampons anytime someone disagrees with the lifestyle of climbers .
@@3vimages471 Just because people don't climb mountains doesn't imply that we just sit around of the couch all day. Also are you saying you don't own a couch or refuse to sit on one?
@@jasonshields515 And some, like Reinhold Messner, retire gracefully after many years of climbing.
Das schaut immer so einfach aus... Größten Respekt 💪🏻
Amazing achievement. Well done Dani Arnold.
Linda Montanha! Que subida, um mestre do alpinismo.
3 words: Balls of Steel!
+Jay Smith Heart of Steel
+Jay Smith People are talking about him doing it with no ropes, but this is the answer, he was weighed down and anchored to the mountain by those balls of steel.
+Noble Travel in reality tho, it appears he was mostly ice climbing, with Rock scrambling.
With ice climbing you're more secured down than free climb. A lot more "safe" in a sense is what I'm saying,
than you will have no problem to beat his time. Go ahead.
he's dead fell like 3500 feet.
Dany and Ueli my Mountaineers hero👍🏻👍🏻
If he drank a red bull he could've flown up there
😂😂😂
God damnit
Arnold and Ueli both super talented exceptional and fearless
Now I'm seriously impressed.
4+ without ropes, zips and safety equipment its insane. This guy is crazy.
Respect. This is insane.
Kickass! Congratulations!
How do they get down? These videos never show the descent. That must be way tougher.
Chopper, most likly ;)
Is there a full video somewhere that i can watch?
Almost all videos about speed climbing records are fake. When climbers do records they are not filmed. There is a video of Ueli Steck talking about this.
@@andreamerano5746 really i would Like to See it. Can u send me the Link pls?

Dan Osman found alive and well in Europe. Brilliant to watch, thank you.
Very skilled climber knows how to play the game.lots of climbing .to do this that fast acent.live long😀
WoW Incredible!
That’s an insane mix between ability and courage
How far in meters is the vertical elevation from starting point to the summit? In other words, how many meters above sea level is it where he started this route? I'm impressed!
From start to summit it was around 1,100 meters
Wow 2 minutes 10 seconds! No one will beat that!
More or complete footage somewhere? Why a 2 min video of frantic, split second shots?
AMAZING!
hats off. congrats!
Awesome ! :D
Me encanto la velocidad y la seguridad para subir.. PERO LA CRUZ ESTA HERMOSA.✝
Настоящий мужчина!!!! Браво!👍👍👍👍
Amaizing
how fast was Kilian Jornet from the town there to the top, 2 hours ? with over 2000 meters vertical gain i think.
Sehr gut gemacht!👍🏔️🌲🌞
Wonderful climbing
Awesome !
Amazing👍fantastic climbing👍
How safe are those hooks you dig in the ice going vertically?? Not scared of one of them ripping the ice and coming off?? Adn how do u get doown???
Wow, Congratulations!!
song ?
Friggin hell man, sick!!!
Im out of breath watching that. Nice job mate!!!
Отважный мужик! Без страховки лезть по такой стене.
great job....
what a beast! thats one scary drop...
RIP, Ueli. We miss you!
I´m not sure if this beat Kilian Jornet´s up and down ascent from Cervinia in 2h40m. I guess this is the fastest ascent of the North Face, something equally as impressive.
I totally read the title as "World's fattest person climbs the Matterhorn" lol
これはスゴイ!👏
信じられない程の凄さ!
I really don't think anyone should be encouraged in speed when it comes to climbing and dangerous terrains like this one.
You have to respect the accomplishment.
Actually most of dangerous mountains are time-sensitive, the more time you spend on the mountain the more risks you encounter... so, yeah, you always look to be as fast as you can be.
Respect!
Matternhorn calls me...
bravo!!!!!!
it's just incredible
Pretty damn impressive. We've been to the area 3 times and up to the Hornli Hutte. It is one amazingly vertical piece of rock.
where can we see the whole run?
amazing
How do you know where the base/start line is?
And there are different routes to do it... so also different times I figure!?!
Oh I forgot... pretty damn amazing either way!!!
Now do it on K2 in winter
Eight thousander in winter is just a weird Polish fetish...
Annapurna?
No human has ever been to its summit during the winter season in all of human history, even the top professional mountain climbers didn't make it to the top
Why not Annapurna
How about you show us all how first, tough guy?
Am I seeing this correctly, this man climbed the north face of the Matterhorn with no ropes? What???
Yes, you're correct. So there was a huge risk for him, but he was lucky and cautious.
Equim There’s no cure for stupidity
@@GHnineteensixtysix nah, he's no stupid, but rather evaluates life and death differently. What is life and death is more like the matter of philosophy, not his intelligence
@@equim7363 And what about the poor sods who get called away from families at night or Christmas Day etc- when such individuals run out of luck, over a ridge - and their alleged "Philosophy" goes with them?

Awesome
How may of you have exercised at even 5000 ft, let alone 14,000? The sheer aerobic training to be capable of this feat . . . dayum.
wow that's fast!
fearless to climb a dangerous mountain on free solo. Brave man.
Damn, that looks pretty dangerous but a great achievement
"Pretty dangerous"? Mote then 700people have died on that mountain

How long does it take to go back down?
I'm curious, was this ascent made possible by the ice/snow? because this is not the normal route up. this is definitely a shortcut.
matterhorn north face
fantastic .......
absolutely great achievement 💪🏼 #filmmakingismypassion
Nice warm up :P
Anybody know how long the descent took?
Impressive AF
What a stud!
íncreíble.... grande....
The title makes it seem like he is a sprinter who is really fast who just happened to climb the matterhorn as opposed to the person to climb it the fastest.
+RAWRWAFL That would be Usain Bolt climbing the Matterhorn
Excellent 👌👌🙏🙏💐
1:18 The face on the "left" side of this shot seems easier?
Good old Red Bull. It aint cool unless you risk your life.
Drinking Red Bull is risking your life XD
tikiduck at least someone is pushing the envelope
Totally agree
Verrückt und beeindruckend
What's that song in the background? Thank You so much!
great !
this just boggles my mind
There were probably videographers staged along the route beforehand or they could have used an autonomous drone that kept pace with the climber.
music pls
Amazing. Unbelievable.
Does anyone know that song?
Kewl! . . . . Whose tracks was he following?
Insane that he did it in 2 minutes 14 seconds
Amazing stuff. I like climbers like these far more than the ones who climb 8000m plus peaks in the Himalayas. At least they do all their work themselves. Uncomplicated and perfectly executed. Himalayan climbers require porters to carry all their stuff, sherpas to clear the route and fix ropes and ladder. Even worse they litter the mountain and base camp with oxygen cylinder and other rubbish.
Can somebody explain how him and killian jornet both have the record for the matterhorn ?
wtf no ropes or nothing. Why do people do these things? I mean it's cool to watch, but one wrong move and you're toast.
The closer you play to death, the more alive you really are.
Elliot Harpour Maybe for you, I'm quite happy living out my mediocre life without risking death for a few thrills. but each to their own I suppose
+nick dean Because he's a professional.
+nick dean i think it's really cool going out to the mountains and do dangerous stuff but there is a limit between bravery and stupidity, i think he fell into the second one.
+nick dean ya some people like myself hate living a boring and predictable lifestyle.
Impressive as hell
Song name?
Respect
Just learned Ueli Steck's death :(
RIP
Insane
It's like a very easy free solo. You need 1 massive mistake and you're dead while when free soloing rock a tiny little slip can result in you falling and dying.
