The practise of jumping into icy water from a hot sauna is thousands of years old Finnish tradition, that is still alive in moder-day Finland. We make an avanto, hole into the ice of a lake or sea and swim there, swapping between sauna and water. It makes miracles to your blood circulation, mixed with vihta/vasta, a tied-up bunch of young birch sprigs that you beat your body with. It exfoliates dead skin, cleans it and improves blood circulation. In addition, this is all sacred and spiritual in our folklore, sadly the spas around the world don't respect sauna's roots.
I am from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where there are lots of Finnish people, they’ve shown us that tradition and it’s an everyday thing up here now!SISU!!
Can I ask how the sticks exfoliate the body? They seem rather impractical and as if they would only hit certian areas. I hope this doesn't sound ignorant as I'm a big fan of traditional and natural medicines and remedies.
Kara and Nate on RUclips have a video where they visited a traditional sauna in Finnish Lapland, it’s really cool!! They showed the culture in a very real way :)

lauralanthalasa7 you're pretty blind if you think those are all things people would be confident doing, or even go through with without chickening out. i feel sorry for "you people" that can't recognise that bravery isn't only for huge, earth-shattering, life-changing things it's for the scary little things that we force ourselves to overcome, and so much more too.
"I'm putting my wedding ring back on because if I die today I'll die a married man" followed by "not me, Becky you're on your own" sums up their two marriages perfectly lol.
"There's all these things that are hard in life... but at the end of the day, you're a slimy little bag of meat, and the fact that you're able to do ANYTHING is pretty impressive." -Keith Habersberger
'When you're in so much pain, you are willing to try just about anything', so much truth to that. However, I'm not very convinced these methods will offer long term relief. I know when I'm in excruciating pain, anything that really shocks my body like extreme temperature change can give a few minutes relief, but the problem like Zach said at the end, I'm still in pain once it's over.
So true! Also, it was really weird seeing the Google promotion focusing on thinking critically about what you see online followed by a bunch of "wellness" treatments that don't have a lot of scientific evidence.
And for me personally once the relief from the shock is gone I'm actually in more pain. Especially if something has made me cold. The cold makes my pain 10× worse. I am interested in trying the infrared without going to the cold though not because I think it will help long term but it looks like it will feel nice and anything that reduces my pain for a few minutes is a relief.
As another young adult with chronic pain, I so deeply appreciate how honestly and frankly Zach talks about his experience. I haven't seen prominent youtubers talk about and approach chronic pain like this before, and seeing an entire video series on exploring treatments for chronic pain makes me feel a little less alone.
I wish all of this was possible for us that has a low income and struggle with chronic pain and or mental issues. Seems like an amazing break from reality.
If Eugene was there he would have have really slapped his chest instead of Keith and Zach’s kitty paws 😂 Ned would have probably done the same to Eugene lol
Yeah.. I still want to do those pods.. And it all honestly seems like an interesting experience at least once in my life.. My mom wanted to bungie jump before she died.. Never happened.. But I do wanna do that cryo chamber.. Not life threatening and all the same adrenaline.. Down.
I actually tried float therapy last week. I hated it! Salt got in my eyes and stung, and that painless feeling the place told me I'd feel was BS - if anything it made my back ache more as there was nothing supporting it. Maybe I did it wrong, who knows, but I won't be in a rush to try it again!
I know it's been mentioned before but I really appreciate Zach being so public about his struggles. He isn't being paraded around as feel good bullshit, he's raw, he's real about hurting, and he's right when he talks about society as a whole not knowing how to interact with the disabled community. When he talked about not having a day where something doesn't hurt I felt that in my soul. I hope his condition is being managed well and that he can start enjoying his life again as the new normal sets in
I love how they’ve increased their fact checking after their video on cold water with the dodgy guy who doesn’t have science on his side. That is growth
"and i felt like a slimy little bag of meat and for some reason that made me feel better. I was like There's all these things that are hard in life, but at the end of the day, you're a slimy little bag of meat and the fact that you're able to do anything is pretty impressive" That was so Keith and so inspirational, I love it
Was the hair transplant the only thing he did? As a woman with scarring alopecia (basically hair loss that most likely won’t grow back) I’m devastated and really looking for options that actually work.
"There's all these things that are hard in life, but at the end of the day you're a slimy little bag of meat, and the fact that you're able to do anything is amazing." - Keith Habersberger 2021
Don't know the science behind it or if it's been proven true, but over here in Nordics people have been doing this for a very long time. Esp. people with chronic conditions causing chronic pain. We just do it mainly with traditional sauna and natures waters. Preferably in the winter when the plunge pool is cut through the ice. Many people have it in their weekly/daily routine. Even my local public swimming pool has cold plunge pools in them. Maybe we're just masochists by nature 🤷♀️
I appreciate Zack’s honesty when it comes to these things. I deal with chronic pain and have tried many things and I feel like people aren’t fully honest about how much alternative medicines or therapies help. Also it’s different for everyone so it’s possible one thing that’s helps me wouldn’t necessarily help someone else. Random thoughts lol
It's terrifying for farenheit, too. A severe polar vortex storm in the USA makes the windchill between -5 and -25 °F. That can shut down entire states. so -220°F is wild.
Zach's genuine smile when he realizes the cyropod worked warms my heart. As someone with chronic pain, I completely understand how frustrating it is to be in constant pain. Happy for you Zach!!
I hope you don't mind, but would I be able to ask what is chronic pain? Is it a pain where it would maybe be a constant stomach cramp, or is it more of an ache in your bones? I hope I don't sound ignorant, I just have terrible, terrible, constant back pain and I wanted to know what the difference is between that and chronic pain.

lauralanthalasa7 you're pretty blind if you think those are all things people would be confident doing, or even go through with without chickening out. i feel sorry for "you people" that can't recognise that bravery isn't only for huge, earth-shattering, life-changing things it's for the scary little things that we force ourselves to overcome, and so much more too.

The way keith with horror in his eyes and zach with enjoyment looked at eachother after seeing ned plunge had me wheezing

Ned comparing baths to drugs is the most Ned thing I’ve ever heard.
It really, really is.
Ngl, seeing Zach say he couldn't feel any pain was the most wholesome thing. So happy that he's making these these of vids to inform people
'When you're in so much pain, you are willing to try just about anything', so much truth to that.
I am interested in trying the infrared without going to the cold though not because I think it will help long term but it looks like it will feel nice and anything that reduces my pain for a few minutes is a relief.
just me or does Zachs' hair look absolutely PHENOMENAL
I was thinking the same, it looks great
That's the growth of Cryogenic fear 😂 his skin couldn't be the insulation, so his hair came for the job 🤣🤣
He had a hair treatment done
It’s from the hair transplant
The cryo chamber shouldn't be a problem for Keith. He is way to hot to be bothered by such temperatures

"I don't do drugs, but I do do baths." -Ned SOMEONE PLEASE GIF THIS. It's too good. Especially for drug-free bath lovers like me.
As someone who’s also gone through various manifestations of chronic pain, I find Zach so impressive and inspirational. Hope you find relief soon!

Their reaction in the sauna after the cold plunge: priceless
“It’s very post-coital.” 😂
I WHEEZED 😭
It's the snicker before he says it
As another young adult with chronic pain, I so deeply appreciate how honestly and frankly Zach talks about his experience. I haven't seen prominent youtubers talk about and approach chronic pain like this before, and seeing an entire video series on exploring treatments for chronic pain makes me feel a little less alone.
As a librarian, teaching people to check their sources is huge! Thanks for talking about this. You warmed the cockles of my nerdy heart.
"I'm a slimy little bag of meat" is what I'm gonna say to myself in the mirror every morning from now on.

I know I saw that and thought of kittens. What have we done to masculinity. Like even a moderate amount would be good.
If Eugene was there he would have have really slapped his chest instead of Keith and Zach’s kitty paws 😂 Ned would have probably done the same to Eugene lol

LMAO. Try Guys, but definitely not the Hype Guys.
The Try Guys: they do everything you’ve ever considered possibly doing, so you that you actually realize you don’t want to do it yourself.
😂 I still wanna, but atleast I'll be more informed I guess?
Yup, felt that way with the motherhood series
I know it's been mentioned before but I really appreciate Zach being so public about his struggles. He isn't being paraded around as feel good bullshit, he's raw, he's real about hurting, and he's right when he talks about society as a whole not knowing how to interact with the disabled community. When he talked about not having a day where something doesn't hurt I felt that in my soul. I hope his condition is being managed well and that he can start enjoying his life again as the new normal sets in

I deal with chronic pain and have tried many things and I feel like people aren’t fully honest about how much alternative medicines or therapies help. Also it’s different for everyone so it’s possible one thing that’s helps me wouldn’t necessarily help someone else. Random thoughts lol
As someone who uses Celcius, I literally freaked out looking at the title.
It's terrifying for farenheit, too. A severe polar vortex storm in the USA makes the windchill between -5 and -25 °F. That can shut down entire states. so -220°F is wild.
Its still something like -160c, im scared
it would help if they did actually say what it is in Celsius, since you know, most of the world uses Celsius.
