But forreal, I did not have a socket (or anything else) large enough that would fit the OD of the bearing, also the friction fit was minimal so I took a chance pressing the ID of the bearing and in this case, it worked out great. (not recommended I know)
Both in a way, as the air is compressed it gets hot, and as it enters the storage tank it cools down. Usually, when the compressor works for extended periods the air feels lukewarm but won't reach really high temperatures.

I just reduced the casting marks, some of them were quite ugly. They were not completely removed though. I like to leave some history and originality.

Compressor oil. They sell special non foaming oil for compressors. Every hardware store should stock it.

Yes that is advisable, if the press fit is really tight pressing on the inner traces will damage the bearing.

Yes, you can, but running it in reverse for long periods of time can cause the compressor to overheat.
