20:45 Funnily enough, Aang was most likely genuine when he said, "nice dress." It's not shown in the series, but the airbenders were among the most accepting when it came to things like identity and outward expression.
The running theory is that Gyatso used his Airbending Mastery to remove all the air from that room and suffocated everyone inside, which explains the lack of scorch marks.

Yeah I'm not a fan of this theory because if the fire soldiers couldn't breathe they would have just ran away. Plus, gyatso should have been able to hold his breath WAY longer than the fire nation soldiers. I know it's a fan theory but it doesn't make sense to me. Gyatso should have been able to take in a deep breath before removing all the air in the room

Funny you mentioned the break dancing since the voice actor for Zuko started as a break dancer as a child before getting his first acting Role as Rufio in Hook staring Robin Williams.
Commander Zhao was inspired by Jason Isaacs' character in the movie "The Patriot" and he is voiced by...Jason Isaacs himself! Jason Isaacs is perhaps best known as Lucius Malfoy, Draco's father in the Harry Potter movies.
Yeah, this show grows and matures as it goes on. It literally has one of the best character arcs in ANY medium.
The arrows are given to master airbenders. They have to also create a new technique: Aang created the air scooter. Aang is the youngest airbending master
It’s theorized that Gyatso took out all the firebenders in the room with by bending the air out of the room and suffocating all of the Fire Nation soldiers.
Also! Fun fact! Momo means peach in Japanese! Which is what Momo was eating when Aang named him.
Spoilers for live action
In the first episode Netfix showed airbenders getting wiped out and Gyatso dies fighting Sozin, strange desicion in my opinion.
@@dadandadandan Naw actually thats a great decision, it was always weird to me that gyatso seemingly died to 15 or so normal firebenders when a master airbender like aang is styling on them from episode 1
@@godusopp2752 There were probably more firebenders, these are just the ones he killed in this attack. But my point is it make the world feel smaller if two powerful benders just happened to fight during a massive battle. Knowing Sozin from the show, he probably would not lead his army into battle.

@godusopp2752 Yeah, but also keep in mind that the Air Nomads were wiped 100 years ago and like 99% of the active Fire Nation military are younger to middle-aged guys who would likely have never seen an Airbender before, let alone had experience fighting them. It makes sense that your average grunt would struggle against a force they'd never trained or had a real reason to train against.

While the Fire Nation isn't great with water, they DO have a convenient way to heat and shape metal, which makes things like warships easier. Imagine not needing a forge or welding equipment, that has to give you a leg-up with your fabrication :D
Trivia, "Unagi" is a freshwater Japanese eel, delicious smoked.
I love how they use colour in this series, like when when Zuko arrives in Kyoshi, the light gets a sort of burned sepia tone.

I think it would be a terrible idea to watch this while watching the netflix series especially since the first season of the netflix series is apparently gonna be spoilers from the other seasons of the animated series. Why would you wanna have this show ruined for you?

I always forget how good episode 3 is. Definitely top 5 eps of season 1. That ending of flying away from a desolate air temple that used to be filled with so much life. So good
If you already love the show this much in the first four episodes, you're gonna be blown away by the rest of it.

I “slogged” thru season one the first time I watched it. It’s so much better on rewatch. Season two and on damn, they are in for some stuff. And I’m totally looking forward to it.

the live action show is going to include characters and plot lines that don’t happen until the later seasons (which is a weird choice) but i really think yall should finish at least this season and the first few episodes of season 2 before you watch the live action season
I get it in a way though too.. As being 1 for 1 with the animated series is rough as you'll be compared too much.. Which for a show like this, isn't great.. As you'll never live up to it. Also less episodes most likely overall
For me episode 12 kicked things up a huge notch story wise and the season finale is amazing. Each season gets better too.
About your surprise of the Fire Nation having a good navy... it might help to think of them having "the fires of industry".

I'd recommend binging this show if you want to get in on the money for the live action, this isn't the kind of show you want spoilers for if you can avoid them.

iroh is a top 5 maybe even a top 3 character in all of avatar and of all time cartoon characters and I believe most people who've seen both shows can agree with that statement
At this moment Aang can't activated Avatar State with his control. He only can be in the Avatar State when he is angry or threatened

If you enjoy this show, definitely watch Korra after. It's a different show, with a different tone, set in the same universe. Some people really can't understand that. But it's great.

How often are you posting ATLA reactions on yt? And I agree with everyone else, you probably shouldn't watch thr live action at the same time. The original is perfect as a standalone, so you should finish it in full before watching this new version coming out soon.
They at least need to watch ahead and release on the schedule week by week so they don’t get spoiled on major moments in a worse way by the live action, I’d say getting to book 2 would be good unless the live action show has all the books in the season.

People who say not to watch korra are fake fans of the franchise. Both shows are equal good.
For me and my friends, korra is our favorite show and some seasons and villains are way better that the ones from atla.

I recommend you finish at least Seasons 1 and 2 before doing the live action series. You will be spoiled on certain characters who may show up sooner than they did in the animated series. I would also highly recommend the Korra series. It was great! Each season of Korra feels more like a standalone story than the over arcing tale of Avatar, but it explores the development of the Avatar universe in very interesting ways. It's very entertaining.

I definitely think you should ignore all the Legend of Korra haters and watch it after this, I know you have a long ways to go but it is overhated for reasons I can't comprehend - it's sooo good, and a great addition to the Avatar universe.
No, it has not been outright said that Zuko was banished before now, but it was inferred. The show is very good at gradual exposition, allowing you to try to fill in the gaps as you go, and making a stronger impact. This means you also need to be careful as some commentors cannot resist spoiling when viewers ask a question that will be answered later, the rest of us do try to hold them to account though.
Suki gave Sokka some of that respect woman juice, he will never forget that (mostly).
As everyone has said, watch the animated series first.

Watched the 1st episode of Live Action today and they just spilled all the beans the 1st episode. I also found it very rushed for the character build up, which we already know the characters but for newbies they didn’t spend a lot of time developing them. First impression so far, the animated series is still king.
