I taught a class of one for a while. It was terrific. Lots of walking and teaching, getting the challenge just right for the 'whole class', and so many laughs. It was worrying when the child began to pick up my mannerisms though.
It was quite easy to track them down using Scotland's People and Facebook (I'm nosey). Catriona married three times and is now Catriona Miller. Alexandra married twice and is now Alexandra Hope. The unborn one was to be named Fraser Diarmid Cairney. They all still live in the North of Scotland. They will surely remember being filmed but I think they have probably no idea it's now turned up on RUclips!

One recurring theme in all the videos is how much better people were dressed and groomed. People took more pride in their appearance it seems. You wouldn’t have someone in the PJs out or dirty tracksuits as you see now.
It looks idyllic and they were lovely children but when the girl said she'd always wanted to go on a train but never had it just seemed a bit sad to me.
Getting everything you want is proven to be harmful to character & satisfaction in life. I know kids that can't go past middle school (8th grade), because it costs money. Sad is a matter of perspective.
I was born and raised in Shetland. To this day there are no trains and it was always my wish. Got eventually at 18 when I first left the island and visited Scotland. Didn't like the sensation or the actual 'mainland'/Scotland. In Shetland, we call the 'big island' our Mainland but the mainland proper, is Scotland!
This looks lovely on film but then I looked up where Loch Choire is. Similar to Altnaharra. Harsh, bitterly cold for many months in winter then midge infested in summer. Did they even have TV?
What a culture shock going to the secondary would be😮 . I work in the countryside and spend a lot of free time there. Still I'm not sure these really small schools are a good idea. Your average schools in small to medium sized towns expose kids to a much wider range of society. It must have been quite traumatic for those kids to have to go and stay in a school boarding house in a town or larger village.
@@scuzzy983 many thanks for that. Never heard of this Montague Phillips but I will try and find some more of his stuff on here. I thought that the piece was by a Scottish composer such as Hamish Maccan.
In 1974 in the UK every school day started with an assembly (an "act of collective worship") in which hymns would have been sung and prayers would be said. This was a legal requirement under the 1944 Education Act - but individual parents did have the right to object, in which case their children would be excused from taking part. The law was superseded by the 1988 Education Reform Act. By the way, this school was in Scotland, not England.
@@As-zn3cd No definitely the 90s. It's the same as cars. The UK didn't get its first family car until about 1982 and even then you could only buy dark blue ones. Of course now days you can get well over 6 colours so things have improved.
