"As a lot of the company's paperwork is confidential, one of Julie's jobs is to make sure the unwanted papers are destroyed ..." However, if you are Mrs Williams of 81 Quintrell Ave. Portchester, HANTS, we'll film your details along with your Southern Gas account number ... 🙄
This was so interesting! Thanks for uploading. So much had changed in 40 years. I wonder what these people would think of us all working from home using Zooms and Teams.
Julie and I in the post room … phwoar! Apart from that she told me that her job was good training in trolley pushing for when we visited Sainsbury’s after work to buy our crispy pancakes for tea. Mmm … lovely!
I learned how to touch type on a manual typewriter at secretarial college in the 1990s. I’m not sure if they still use them, but it’s the best way to start. I had to demonstrate my accuracy on paper before I could graduate to electric.
Tomorrows World had an programme in 1969 that mentioned computers on desks within 15 years. Similar news in the 2020s mean AI and quantum computing being available as mobile devices within a much shorter time period before 2035.
Companies in the past invested in money in order to implement staff in canteens. I believe presently there are certain large corporate office blocks that still have restaurants implemented within buildings. This is not unusual.

I'm watching this at work. Evidently, our productivity has faltered somewhat over the years.
Interesting that everyone speaks without using a load of filler words.
I remember these programmes so well. Thanks for uploading.
Those modern offices are amazing. Computers and stuff.
Can't believe they included Copy by Japanese New Wave band Plastics.
That theme tune is so good ! I wish they'd release it
i kind of like the vintage computer design.
It's funny watching this 40 years on, now most of this looks antiquated.
Why is it hard to believe!!!! Everything has to start somewhere. Even with technology there is an evolution.

Great video, thanks for uploading.
Two weeks before my tenth birthday
They were still using typewriters and it was nearly the 90s. Wow

it was 1981 this BBC video so nearer 1970's
@@freddysquirenaranjo4859 1981 is closer to the 90s actually
@@CocoaPuff01 1981 is not "nearly the 90s" though.

The biggest lie was that having a job is interesting I wish I was advised to be a housewife.
Oooo...it's all a bit too modern and technical for me! I wish those trendy frocks were in the shops when I went to work in an office .
cout for you
apparent that GDPR wasnt a thing then :D
What is the theme music to this programme, dose anybody know?
It's a song called Breakaway, by Frank Mills
That's a great track by Frank Mills but it's not the theme music (heard at 1m 23s). Does anybody know what it's called pls?
@@lancechinnian4043 It's as I indicated.
Is that a young Jeremy Paxman I hear narrating this?
Sadly not, it's someone called David Simmons.
None of these jobs exist now (apart from the post delivery)
WTF ?? Waitress service in an office canteen ??
You mean the 1980s?
