F1 is my first love but IndyCar is so so good! The level of competitiveness is just awesome. I mean, as I understand it, there are 2 races left and theoretically 10 guys can still win the title with at least 7 guys having real chances, wow!

Actually only 7 guys can still win the championship, the others are all out of the running. But yeah it's amazing and competitive

so I've been to three IndyCar races in my life and I've seen Joseph Newgarden win all three of them. I had a blast at the race the other night and although I was rooting for Pato Oward, I think if he hadn't held David Malukis up for so long, Malukis would have had enough time to pass Newgarden for the win.

As Rob posted a lot is down to how the cars are set up. They are also able to tune the set up (also mentioned by Rob) in the pits as the race goes on. The tracks can evolve a lot as the race goes on as more rubber is laid down. Also the track temperature can change especially when they start in daylight and end under the lights.

@@simonkevnorris also wanna add to your point, shock packages. It's one of the few components that teams can freely develop. And Penske allegedly has a shock programme that almost rivals what we see in F1, from what I've heard online.

    • @davidius74

He has actually driven better at the Road courses than the ovals. It comes down to mindset and changes old habits. He got so used to how a NASCAR drives an oval and what lines they take and he he can drive them, that switching to an open wheel car with high downforce is a different way of thinking. Look at Scott McLaughlin, he never drove an oval or an open wheel car until he went to Indycar 2 years ago and yet he has been more consistent and driven better on the ovals than the road courses (yes I know both his wins were road courses, but his average finish is lower than ovals)
