QueAquatics I’m in the same boat as you! My severe is a rescue and I’m his third home (and last!) He has major trust issues, but hey, who doesn’t? It’s only our first week and he’s already stepping up, trying super hard not to over do it and spoil him.
OMG I lost track of time and drank coffee too late. Was literally up all night and have to volunteer 11-5 at the Ark today. However, this was one of many many vids I watched while never falling asleep. It was educations watching you and her work together. VERY intelligent bird and very motivated by attn from you. Thanks for the night cap lol.
I have a severe macaw I got a month ago. He so far has not allowed me to step him up. It has just been hanging out on his cage and talking to him. I want to do target training but his diet is awful. I have been trying to get him comverted to healthier foods but so far, he hasn't been down for it. How was Sophie with eating when you first got her?
She only wanted nuts and pizza crust, it was crazy and slow transition to a chop salad in the morning, pistachios for training and organic pellets I got from Bird Tricks in the evening. But it took me chopping up pistachios and stirring them into her salad for a while
She still to eat her meals with me. We train all the time except when she is hormonal. She is free flying and lands on me and likes to hang out with me. She is a part of the family for sure
"... me. I'm the biggest issue." Well Just by recognizing that, you're doing so great!
You have done it you freinds. Love you and Sophie.
I love her so much! She is coming around and starting to trust me
She is showing so much improvement. More trusting and sociable. Well done, keep up the good work.
Slow and steady seems to work for her
Love how patient you are with her and the fact you recognize things you are doing wrong , gets a double thumbs up from me!
Thank you Teresa! I am just shocked that I didn’t get it until I was editing
