That’s pike. Her hair turned white after she died and was brought back in an early home game before they started streaming.

    • @BayerTE1
      @BayerTE1 Месяц назад +3

I think they did a kind of bad job of showing that in the show. not only do we get no explanation of who the person is, she has different hair color AND she also says "thank you for saving my grandfather" whilst pike have so far in the show said "great great grandfather" which adds to the confusion. so for people who have not seen the livestreams i think its justified to be mistaken here.

@@BayerTE1 If they had thought far enough ahead, explaining her resurrection could have fit fine in her season 1 journey to reconnect with the Everlight. Its forgivable that they overlooked it back then though.
But by the time of actually making season 2, they should have worked it in before this. Most obviously around the resurrection ritual of Vex, or somewhere in building the relationship of Pike and Grog, like the moment she is stabbed by Craven edge it triggers Grogs memories of her violent death.
I can only think at this point they are saving the full details for some kind of arc next season around getting her vestige? And the divine intervention? If thats the case, they should have fixed this scene to just not reference that part of her backstory. Have Wilhand heal Grog just a little to get him up and walking, and have him say come meet my grandaughter, she will fix you up. And dont show dark haired Pike.

@@BayerTE1 Well, she did call him "Grandpa Wilhand" earlier in the episode, but I agree, it wasn't really clear enough. A simple modification to Pike's dialog making it clear she was there that day would have been sufficient.

Pretty sure that was Pike's mother, as Pike didn't know this story. Pop-Pop is Pike's great-grandfather. Gnomes live hundreds of years but mature like humans in later editions, so most gnomes probably have great, great, great, great, great grandparents alive.

From the Critical Role wiki, "As a child, Pike seemed to have an affinity to heal. Whether it was animals, people, or even flowers, she felt she had a purpose in making things whole that had once been broken. She studied and learned the ways to heal through divine magic. She lived a peaceful life, quiet and simple, until one day, Wilhand was captured and almost killed by a group of goliath barbarians. One of the goliaths took a stand against the murder of the innocent gnome, and he himself was beaten, bloodied, and left for dead, abandoned by his herd.
Wilhand went to Pike for help. She prayed, and healed this barbarian as best she could, bringing him back to life. When he awoke, she discovered his name was Grog Strongjaw. After that, they were the best of friends-a rather unlikely pair."

10:36 it's understandable to get this wrong but that is Pike not her mom. Her hair turned gray from something that happened that they may show in a flashback in the future so I won't go into more detail than that. As for how she didn't know I'd just assume when he came to get her to heal Grog he just told her he saved him from the raiders but didn't say he was also one of them.

Great reaction! Great to hear you talking about the Chroma Conclave. The metallic and chromatic dragon lore goes all the way back to the 1st edition DnD. Matt Mercer came up with a great twist on the evil dragons and their alliance. Each of these dragons is legendary....so nigh invulnerable. The animation team and the cast came up with dragons that are massive, terrifying, and brutal.
Grog's backstory and how he has to deal with Kevdak is perfect. Seeing it play out in the series is different, but it's definitely awesome. Can't wait to see your reaction to the next episode.

They didn't do a great job with the scene where Grog gets healed imo.
The healer was Pike, she had black hair as a kid. I guess that she didn't know the reason why Kevdak beat him near to death is because of him fighting back against his family. Maybe they never spoke of it because of his pride.

(Spoilers for Campaign 1 of critical role and the NEXT ep of Vox Machina S2)
The original fight with Kevdak in the campaign hung heavily on a clutch casting of Hold Person on Kevdak. They basically hacked his arm off while he spent three rounds failing his saves.

Thordak has no interest in the vestiges, he has his own plans, but that’s how Ripley is able to get into Umbrasyl’s ear
The travelling trope on table was Scanlan’s old trope they met under different circumstances but it was a nice way to include them
As the comments have noted, that was Pike. She has ‘trauma hair’ like Percy when she died pre-stream and came back (S1 showed Percy’s hair turn white when being tortured).

The combining of stories for Grog is so well done here. Groon and the whole "where does your strength come from" was mostly roleplaying multiclassing to add some fighter to his barbarian, Craven Edge was a mostly self contained side tangent that didn't have this carried after effect, and the whole herd situation and reconciling his own past … they've taken all of those elements and turned it into an incredibly powerful journey of growth for Grog. I love it, and the next episode is amazing!
I don't know if they'll touch on it, probably not, but Pike's white hair is a similar stress white to Percy's - That was little Pike healing young Grog. After that Pop-Pop and Pike take Grog in, which is why they are such close friends. I love their friendship so much.

The level change from Level 15 to Level 16, Grog took a level of Fighter.
His final level 20 sheet has 17 levels of Barbarian and 3 levels of fighter. I could be conflating two events, but I recall that being related, they tend to lean into roleplaying things before they happen. In the same style that Liam had Vax discussing religion with Pike as a pre-cursor to multi-classing into Paladin under Seranrae. The dice had other ideas and he instead ended up as a Paladin of The Raven Queen
