I make it the Swiss way. They call it Bircher Muesli. In an airtight container whisk together:
Oats 1 cup, liquid of choice 2 cups (I used 1 cup of milk and 1 cup of plain yogurt), 1 apple grated (I used Gala), 1/2-1 tsp grated fresh ginger, sweetener of choice (I added 2 tsp of honey)
Optional: 1 tsp Chia seeds, 5 drops vanilla essence, 1 big pinch cinnamon (goes really well with the apple)
    Serves 3.
Just put the container in the fridge overnight. It’s nothing like porridge. The texture is so creamy and delicious. I added a little more honey for my kid. It tasted like dessert.
So easy to adapt to make it gluten free (use organic oats) and vegan (use a plant based milk). Can be warmed up as well for a cold winter meal.

Soaking it with berries and cut up bananas with milk (whatever you prefer) tastes amazing. I have seen people use cocoa powder and vanilla essence to overnight soaked oats. Adding nuts, seeds, I add chia seeds or falx seeds, for the crunch and health benefits as well.

I read that rolled oats are steam rolled at high temperarures (up to 100 degree celcius) which would imply they are no longer raw. I read Pinhead/steel cut oatmeal is raw oatmeal..I soak it for 24hours before eating & now am aware of the SCFA benefit thanks to your video🌞

I love overnight oats and have been having it with so many different ways. It feels like having a dessert in the morning with my favourite fruits and nuts. Banana/Strawberry combo , banana/blueberries , mango oats. Add Cacao power and it gives that chocolaty taste as well. One more Indian way is adding nuts and kesar which tastes like a sweet. You can also add grated carrot to make a halwa kind of oats. It is such a flexible recipe you can make it anyway you love to have. Don't forget to add chia seeds/ basil seeds (Sabja seeds). I think I should do a overnight oats recipe too.

Rolled oats are the same as old fashioned oatmeal. I've been using the old fashioned oatmeal for overnight cold oatmeal. Thank you for putting this information out. I've been doing this for at least 10 years now. It definitely helps to keep me regular. I also tossed in one prune. Without the oatmeal and prune I get constipated even though I eat lots of other fruits and vegetables. I take magnesium supplements for restless leg syndrome and migraines however they can cause loose BM. Overnight cold oats definitely keeps things balanced for me.

I used to pour boiled water into the jar/thermos with oats & some seeds like flax, sunflower, pumpkin, poppy seeds, add some salt, some cinnamon, some cocoa powder, some vitamin C in powder if you have, and some citric acid or low pH foods like dried lemon skin or dried sour berries, because low pH helps with phytic acid breakdown.
It's in between compromise between cooked and soaking in cold water. It also helps to avoid bacteria poisoning.
BTW If you do it in food thermos and pour boiled water and left for more than overnight then it'll start to ferment slightly, so you can have source of probiotic. It's really good stuff.

Resistant starch on the oats is available only when you soak them? Is that what he's saying? Or it is better resistant starch when you soak them? Because oats have this starch by default right out of the bag I thought.. I was expecting this was going to be a vid about removing the phytic acid.

    • @duytrang2287
      @duytrang2287 Год назад +1

Only when you soaked them overnight. If you eat raw oats they can inhibit your body absorption of minerals and can even cause constipation.
By soaking then overnight it will get rid of the phytic acids and become resistance starch. Which is prebiotic.
Try to buy all nuts raw and eat after soaking them overnight. You may roast them afterwards to make them crunchy again

anyone... really dumb question....I put overnight oats in my smoothie....does the blended oats somehow take away their benefits (namely fiber)...It sounds dumb... but is it different actually eating the overnight oats vs having them in a smoothie and drinking? I'm thinking it would be exactly the same... but the blender can process it much more than chewing... so I don't know... Thanks

What's your stand on using honey with soaked oats?
I used to have cooled oats with little rock salt. But clearly that won't work with soaked oats. Any suggestions for taste?
