- It was a great turnout at Don Garlits Drag Racing Museum for the charity car show for the, Interfaith and Sheriffs Youth Ranch. We got there a little late so we had to go a little faster than normal to try and get everyone in.
Two of the greatest names in American motor sports are Richard Petty and Don Garlits. The King on the oval and Big Daddy on the 1/4 mile. And the best part - they're both still walking amongst the living. My most vivid memory of Don was when he debuted his newest Swamp Rat with the clear canopy over the cockpit and the molded fiberglass cover over the front end with the small rims with v-belts as tires. When interviewed in the pit about his latest innovations he said "we're going to punch a hole in the wind and drive through it ". And as usual, he was spot on, setting another speed record. The front v-belt tires shredded on the last run and tore up the fiberglass cover. But Don was happy, saying that they're going to try some "little airplane tires" at the next event.

I've been looking at houses in Ocala and nice to know there is a large car culture there. Owners probably not living in HOA areas, though. Museum has great site for show (did not need snow plowing like up here). I will have to remember to use up all the salt and sand before the move OR leave it with the plow and truck as package deal (lol). Thanks for rushing the video before trophies awarded, Bill.

Looks like a good show. I haven't been to the Garlets Museum since 2007. Then I missed seeing him by 30 minutes.
Had to blow out my driveway for the 1st. time this season. Only 3 inches of snow.
Now that sounds like fun. We’ll be in it soon. We’re heading home for Christmas on the 18th for 10 days. I know I’m turning into a typical old man, I’m really liking the Corvette. Oh no! 😂
