While Herbie in the story is a 1963 model, there were 11 different year models from 1957 -1967 used in the first movie plus junkyard ones used for scenes where Herbie was wrecked or got some sort of damage. They were all modified to look like Herbie and had individual uses. For all of the other movies no one knows the exact amount of beetles that were used but they were all a variety of different years.
For some reason this vidso feels staged to me. The engine looks pretty clean and new for being abandoned for 18 years. The paint doesn't look that bad, and 18 year old dirt doesn't fall that easy. Also, the interios seemed ok, dirty, but why the hell would they pressure wash the interior like that? Flooded in water and soap. Ridiculous
As a detailer I’ve never heard of power washing the interior and the glimpse of it being scrubbed the floor pans looked fairly new. With my ‘70 beetle the floor pans were Swiss cheese after about 20-25 years. This seems fake to me.
This is an authentic 1600-S manufactured in Brazil between 1974 and 1975. It could never have been a Herbie. Only 5675 units of this model were manufactured. This car is also known by the nickname "Bizorrão".
It might be a 1968 to 1970's Beetle because of the Tail light. Restoring a Beetle is no joke. You need time, patience and money to do it right. Mine is a 1968 which is still ongoing for more than 2yrs. Now. I tried my best to keep almost all the original parts of it. Sadly 75% is the only thing I can do because I dont have enough money and some of the parts are really hard to find and very expensive. But once it's finally done it's very satisfying and fullfilling since it's my fathers car which he really love and care when he was still alive. I'm trying my best to make him happy in heaven after I'm done with the restoration of his beloved car 🥰
Back in 91 I bought a 72 super beetle for $300 in excellent condition other than the owner couldn't get the car to start. About 20 minutes with the car and adding a new battery and setting the points I finished the title paperwork with the money exchange. They asked me how I was going to have it towed then I went out started the car and the guy came running out saying he didn't want to sell it although I was already half way down the road and it was to late.
It’s been highly modified. It has a split intake with dual Webber carbs. Thats a good indicator it has been “souped up” as they used to say in the old days
It would be nice if you knew how to detail in the first place, there was no reason to fill the floor board the way you did. It was a total waste of time and not needed. Learn how to do something before you try, and don't shoot something you don't know how to do.
I give it a 10 if it runs, but I like the way you guys cleaned it up even the engine came out flawless not bad for $1000 investment of purchasing this car you can get more for the car now✌🏼
Why would anybody spray tons of that foam on the inside of the car, followed by high-pressure water? Why would anyone spray quantities of some kind of liquid cleaner on the dashboard, including the gauges and the radio, so that it's literally dripping off?
AS VW BEETLE OWNER I JUST KEEP IT. IS NOT A HERBIE IS A BEETLE FROM THE 70S. NOT A SUPER BEETLE FROM THE SPARE TIRE SIT. THATS HOW YOU SEE THE DIFERENCE GOOD LUCK AND ENJOY.
Das einzige was dieses Auto mit Herbie gemeinsam hat ist das es ein Käfer ist.Ich bin Österreicher aber ich behaupte nicht Arnold Schwarzenegger zu sein.
I had a bug it was one of the best cars I ever owned. Only draw back was the heater . It wasn’t very warm in the winter. But it never let me down. It always got me to where I was going.
@@DarrenHills-d3enot all beetles were made that way, you either had the option to have a hard top or a sunroof depending on the year soooo yeah, but hey! Good observation, didn’t notice that before :)
That’s a very bold claim calling this bug a Herbie . Herbie didn’t have a scoop on the back and had different colored interior and wheels plus was a completely different year to this one But saying that nice save I would have saved it myself.
That's a 1970 bug. A decent one. Worth $20 grand? I doubt it. Most decent '68-'74 Beetles these days are in the $12-15,000 range. Herbie is a '63 sunroof.
Herbie, well if your all remember had a full webstato type sunroof, not a hard top, lights are wrong, front and back, basically totally the wrong year car
I had a '74 and a '70 Beetle. College boyfriend was a VW mechanic which really helped. Not good cars for Central Texas in the summer. No A/C and the engine always overheated. But I loved my Bug, esp. the '70 model. Bright reddish orange with white interior and all the chrome was in perfect condition.
A 73 Beetle was the first car I owned after moving to Miami in 1983. It was a nightmare. Very often, it wouldn’t start first thing in the morning when I went to work so I had to jump it. The garage I took it to couldn’t fix it. One day while driving, smoke started pouring out of the back seat and it was completely destroyed by fire . I had to pay a towing company to take it away.
The 67 was a 1 year car. The last year of WIDE 5 wheels. The dual carbs came stock on my squareback. Gas tank is under hood. My 69 vertte has a gas door. Vents behind rear windows this is a 68.
This guy not only doesnt know shit about cars. I would never get my vehicle detailed by them. More cleaner doesnt always mean more clean. And im not paying for them to destroy my electricals or flood my engine with water in places it isnt supposed to be. Way to destroy a classic bruh. And like many others stated, that isnt a movie car. Just one someone abandoned.
It is clear that after simple research that Herbie was a 1963 VW Beetle. This is a nice Beetle but no Herbie. The dual carb engine is about the coolest thing about it, but not a 20K car, maybe 6K to the right buyer.
I'm not sure I would have spray foamed everything like you did but being in Canada I would like to buy it since not many fine specimens exist here anymore.
Yeah, he's being very stingy with the foaming agent here. If a little does a little good, maybe a few gallons more will do a lot of good....maybe? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I would love to own a beetle. One of my childhood favorite cars. We actually had one and it ran forever. Best little car ever. Sadly they are for to expensive for me to buy now.
Well, in my opinion, you have nice looking sports VW. But, you should always remove all of the carpet first before you ever use any type of cleaners . It doesn’t matter how long the vehicle was sitting … Get yourself a good steam cleaner to use on any and all carpets .. you need to place that carpet somewhere that you know the Sun shines and there is plenty of heat around it… let it set for a couple of days to dry out and check it before placing it back in the car
The design of these cars is fabulous. The noise behind you and a gem of an engine, simple yet clever. I’ve worked on them and just a joy. In the UK we had a car called the Morris Minor in the late 50s and 60s. You generally found people loved/hated one or other. I loved the VW and really loathed the Morris which was noisy, uncomfortable, unreliable and, to me a dreadful car despite its designer., Alec Isigonis, being considered a genius. He went on to design the Mini and latter vehicles in the Austin/Morris lineup. I had several and hated them all. Eventually I bought a bug and loved it. You did so well to get this car and did exactly the right thing in keeping it. It look superb with period patina. With its provenance $20k is feasible. Good luck.
Hate to break it to you, but the chances of this being a movie car are pretty slim especially Herbie the love bug just because it’s white doesn’t mean it was in Herbie the love bug. It just means that it happens to be one of the Volkswagen beetles that was painted in the color white. A lot of people owned white colored beetles back in the day. I believe it’s technically called Pearl by Volkswagen
I owned a 69 Beetle, bright blue sky color. I loved the fact that everyone was in a rush and faster then me, yet I was satisfied and calm in my sweet bubble. And yeah, in snowy weather or rough terrains, the car never let me down 😊💙🐞
Awesome job detailing that car. For as good of a job you'll did, you'll took it far as you can with just detailing. It really screams for a new paint job and chrome digging on the trim and bumper. Not sure if it's value is more kept the original color since it's been in the Herbie movie or if painting it an exotic color like candy red would bring a bigger return. A trained historian appraiser and a auction house would know and would be able to authenticate if it's really from the movie.. The two main car auction houses are Mecum Auctions and Barrett-Jackson Auction Company. They would know what details would yield the biggest return and would be able to give you'll advise to the next steps.
It’s very bad to wash the car this way! It will be the same to push it into the lake and wipe it out after! Too much water inside the car! Don’t do this!!!😮
It's a 1600 3:05 engine, has side vents behind the back windows, and the old non round tail lights, which makes it a 1971 model. And there was no 1600 S, that "S" was taken from something else and stuck on there. This is not a Herbie movie car, not a 1963 model, and doesn't really need to be restored, just really cleaned up. It actually doesn't look in bad shape. I think it was stored inside or it would be much more rotted. This one is all for likes.
Total fake , not only that, you ruined a well maintained 1600 superbug by flooding the interior to get the fake dirt you sprayed on a car that is the wrong year and model to have ever been used in a Herbie movie .
A car doesn't get dirty like that. The dirt was placed there. nice try. And it looks like you guys don't know what you're doing as far as detailing cars
It looked like the pressure washing was actually blasting off some of the paint. And no, this car had absolutely nothing to do with any of the Herbie movies, as many others have already commented. So no, it is NOT "the world's rarest Beetle" by any means.
No sell it, just save us, because this cars a many story and history and rare too. Save it , hard to find this volkswagen again and same condition.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Stop saying this was in any Herbie movie. That was a ‘63 Beetle and this is an early 70s beetle. I would guess ‘71 because that’s when that rear vent appeared. I owned a ‘72 Beetle. I had to stop watching it because it was pissing me off!
The offer you got is definitely from a car collector, it's a good. Deal to sell it straight away if you are not for big money. You also won't get big money in such a short ownership of yours but you will after atleast 5 years of ownership and you will get probably 20 to 35 thousand dollars if you get a mad beetle lover buying as his first beetle not a previous beetle owner. But for all this you will profit out only if you get a reasonable car restorer who is not a money grabber or who exersices professional arrogance but professional expertise. Good luck
I would restore it, kept it and used it. It was never a sports car, it was a car for the people who couldn't afford a higher priced car. It's history would have to be researched for which movie it was in. The original Herbie was a 1963 model.
No dings dents or scratches on the paint. No rips or tears in the interior not to mention no mouse nests or chewed up cloth. No rust atvall even sitting in a barn it would have surface rust on certain areas. This is a bs story.
Herbie was a 1963 Beetle. This car is at least a 1970. Sorry, not a car from the movie.
yeh, even in herbie fully loaded it was a '63 🚗
