- It's useful sometimes to see history play itself out as it was happening. In this case, the news coverage of Rock Hudson's "mystery illness." As we now know, he had AIDS, but you can see the hedging that goes on about it.
The man was just shy of 60... I'm 57 in 6 months.
Makes you take a look at your own life.
How quickly the poor man deteriorated. Diagnosed and dead in a year.
Regardless of his private life, he was a great actor, and genuinely a nice man. He just Always came across to me as someone I would have enjoyed meeting.
His career was amazing. The very last work I can recall was

Drastic weight loss helped to kill him--AIDS causes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of apetite, also Thrush and tumors can make eating painful--Rock to Doris: 'I can't eat!'
My father died of AIDS and I can assure you Rock Hudson looked anything but wonderful.

Thanks so much for posting. My heart hurts seeing this again after all these years. I've got to admit, I had to watch this several times and at each time, my eyes welled up. RUclips- a place for history, who knew.
If a restaurant is caught serving food with food poisoning, it's closed down, and rightly so. So if the bathhouses (which require licenses just like restaurants) are discovered to be breeding grounds for a disease which doesn't just give you food poisoning, but a deadly disease, then of course its license should be revoked.
I feel the same way about elementary schools and high schools when parents refuse to vaccinate their children and heard immunity drops the schools just become breeding grounds for disease.
The HPA-23 drug worked somewhat and for limited times, but as soon as use was stopped the virus came back as it was. They knew this back in the late 80’s which is why the patent wasn’t approved as a treatment option. But the Pastuer Institute had managed to isolate and discover the virus first so the effectiveness of their treatment was blown well out of proportion for what they knew was only a trial attempt.
Thanks so much for sharing this! This was really the first time that a celebrity had come out as HIV+, and really showed that anyone could contract the disease.

When rock died it was the first time I heard about aids.
There are simply no sufficient words for the tragedy of AIDS. If the US government cared enough and people’s minds weren’t so beholden to homophobia and stigma, they could have made the drug they had in France available for distribution in the US a lot sooner. I realize that it was not as effective as what we have today, but doing almost nothing for people while they suffer with this condition is one of the cruelest things I can imagine.

Idk how I got here. But god damn Sue Simmons has been on the air for years.
I'm not gay. But I am in a wheelchair, having been born with the birth defect spina bifida. To many people, the fact that I'm in a wheelchair makes me "different." Many people think of gay people as being "different." Regardless of the many ways that every person in the world is considered "different," we all deserve equal respect and understanding. It's such a shame that the gay population was so discriminated against in the early years of AIDS.
Here’s the thing about that, having read and looked at footage from that time two things are evident- one that gays were discriminated against and two, that they didn’t really weren’t all that innocent. One of the first things the CDC tried to do was to contain this virus but they needed the help of the gay community in that they were asked to help contain this disease by not being so promiscuous. Their answer was no, they were gonna continue to have as much sex with as many partners as they could and nobody could stop them. They were saying things like it was their body, their choice (sounds familiar?). The end result? Thousands upon thousands of gays arriving at hospitals across the country with one thing in common- aids.

Read some more articles on it and learn the truth: there are many, many factors contributing to the inflated HIV figures in sub-Saharan Africa. Even the UN published an article recently admitting this.

HIV does indeed discriminate. It is a medical fact that the likelihood of contracting aids through anal sex is far higher than through vaginal sex.

First off, I will choose whatever word I want as long as it is not disrespectful. "Homosexual" does not have a very clinical connotation. It is simply the word in the English language that means a person who prefers sexual partners of their own gender. (Just as if someone calls me a heterosexual, I do not find that in the least offensive.) If you choose to find a very clinical connotation in that word, then that is your problem.
