Definitely needed to maximise the space in the van so the fold out bed was the only option for us. Glad you liked the video! :)

Adding insulation in Australia is madness, you're just making it harder for your van to cool down. Excellent job all the same

Hey, thanks for watching the video.
The insulation worked both ways in the sense that the insulation we used reflected the heat when we wanted it to and when we were in cooler climates such as Tasmania it kept the heat in the van when it was a little chillier.
Worth doing for any camper van conversion in any climate :)

@@pippaknuckle Know plenty about it thanks pickle.
I've done tours of australia in both insulation and none insulated vans. And while the insulation is good for the colder areas, the way it retains heat on the rest of the country absolutely killed any advantage it had for me. Yeah it slows the heat getting in, but it will inevitable get in. But I would rather be too cold than too hot.

Hi guys great video I’m actually using this design to do my Mitsi express. Not sure if you still use this account but I was just wondering if I could email or message you to ask some questions about the build?

Marco Calabró I’m not too sure myself as well but they do have an older model express but that being said, it has a clean body. Mine is from a bunch of Fridgies I used to work for(ran scrap in the back and all round work horse) so the body has some wear on her. It’s an 08 sj model with the 2.4L running lpg. I bought it with roof racks(Rino racks) and shelving inside. Had about 160,000km when I started driving it and I paid $1,200aud for her(way undervalued). Strong motors in these vans which is why they are still respected.

Hi just started a express conversion myself was wondering what product you used in the sides and roof for insulation? The range at Bunning is so vast :)

    • @twococonutsforbreakfast3243

      Hi Kurt!
Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you!
We were actually very lucky with the roof lining and found some that was about to be scrapped, quite an expensive type. However the floor and side lining was the sheet style that was a lot thinner. Sorry i don't know the specific details but i'm sure someone in Bunnings will be able to advise on the best type to buy for your project :)
      Good Luck!

Do you insulate to keep the heat out? Or to keep the heat in?

    • @the1and0wnly1

    • @twococonutsforbreakfast3243

Hi Thomas, Sorry for the delayed response.
We insulate to keep the heat out on hot days and to keep warmer when it is cold outside. It works both ways!
When we were in Tasmania in March where it was a lot colder it was great to have a van that retained heat and was comfortable for us. On the sunnier East coast and WA it was crucial we kept cooler and the insulation was important to help us do this. Hope this is helpful, thanks for watching!

I've researched this a bit and its best not to put insulation in your van for hot climates, especially on the roof as heat rises.
If you are going to do anything put reflectix on the walls with a 3/4 inch space to keep the heat out and put some sort of system in to circulate air i.e a fan or a/c.
Lastly no matter how many measures you take heat WILL get in the van and insulation will just contain this within during the night so do not use insulation.
Last last note, park in the shade when possible this will do the most out of any of these things to keep the van cool. Land rover even have incorporated a roofrack with a space for airflow and a sheet of metal over the space to essentially create you're own shade on the metal roof from direct sunlight.

@@tubbyrainbow111 I put a reflective 10mm close cell foam on the ceiling of my Toyota hiace and it makes a significant difference to keeping it cooler in direct sun.

    • @MidnightAssass1n
      @MidnightAssass1n 5 лет назад +2

tubbyrainbow111 you might in tassie, I suppose a heated blanket might do the trick though, I’ve been in a caravan for about a year and a half in Melbourne without insulation and summers killed me more than winter has. Except one night when the door decided to open in the middle of the night and I woke up to 3 degrees lol
