Emma Stone was also in a TV show with very similar vibe of comedy The Curse which premiered on paramount plus last year. Incredible watch if you haven’t seen it, it absolutely floored me by the end, no spoilers of course
Will need to check this one out. Recommend checking out a new horror anthology from South Korea called NEW NORMAL - it's from the director of Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum
It took the entirety of the first one for me to realign with the Yorgos wavelength. The second one evolved into something quite cerebrally challenging. The third one was an absolute chef’s kiss. I loved it so much - I wish it was the whole movie!
I am a fan of Yorgos Lanthimos since "The Favourite", "The Killing of a Sacred Deer", "The Lobster", "Dogtooth" and "Poor Things"; and "Kinds of Kindness" is a living proof of vintage Yorgos because of its unrelenting bleakness and bizarre humor. Not to mention that "Kinds of Kindness" has a wonderful potential of being my favorite movie of 2024.💯
1. huge fan of yours, ive watched a lot of great films thanks to your recommendations. 2. One of these films was Rebecca Hall's Resurrection. 3. This movie's kindnesses reminded me of the 'little kindness' that Tim Roth's character kept asking from Rebecca Hall. In the first film Dafoe asks Plemons to kill someone as his 'kindness' among other things, in the second Plemons asks Stone to mutilate and kill herself as the kindness, and in the 3rd Dafoe and Hong Chau ask for several kindnesses from their cult memebers
Love all Yorgos films I find them fascinating . Can’t wait to see this one. Poor Things I liked most.Dogtooth the most disturbing of them all for me. Thanks Emma, I love watching your reviews, you’re the best. From a fan in Melbourne 😊
Also worried about the run-time a bit... but I sat through Schindler's List and Titanic a few times so I reckon I'll be fine. Yorgos is such a creative talented film-maker... Poor Things just blew me away and is easily one of my favourite movies of the year! Also Dogtoothe is a modern classic IMO. Great review Emma, thanks. I will go see this when I have my holiday from work next week 👍
Love your Colorado sweatshirt! I’m very lucky to live there, best state in the US! Emma, have you seen The Curse? I don’t remember seeing you comment on it before, so if you have forgive me. It stars Emma Stone and is the epitome of cringe and awkward. The last episode stayed with me for days!
I love Yorgos's films, The Lobster is my favorite, followed by Killing of a Sacred Deer. This might be third on my list, I need to see it again though.
Just like with 'Poor Things', Yorgos give us 3 stories for weirdness, crazy, and bizarre humor. Only people like yourself and I will enjoy this type of film, Emma.
Omg the Todd Solondz representation! I think a lot of modern black comedy wouldn’t be possible without him. Even his later stuff like Weiner Dog is hilarious and so upsetting
Finally got around to this one, and I find it an interesting approach to identity, conditioning and control, and with all the exploitation that goes with it (be it violent or sexual). Every character/actor incarnation was distinct, and I enjoyed segment three the most. I can see why some would be frustrated that the approach of these segments are obscure parables that link only thematically, but I respect that the film is unabashedly weird and let's you form your own viewpoints. I'm happy to give it an 8/10.
You work so hard on these reviews, Emma, and do such a great job. You’re personable and funny and you definitely know your craft. It’s crazy that you don’t have 1 million subscribers or even 500K. When I see some really lame channels have 5 million subscribers it pisses me off. No justice for real artists! ☹️
The second part could definitely be considered horror. I actually went in to this thinking there were 4 parts for some reason, which I think made it seem shorter because I was mentally anticipating another segment. It wasn't until I first checked my watch with 10 minutes left that I realized there must only be 3. 😆
I made the 1,000th like! I absolutely love your reviews of horror films. I come to your page all the time to get ideas of what I need to see! And for the most part we have similar tastes when it comes to horror films. So appreciate your thoughts!! ❤ All the way over here in Maine US
Don't know if this is in your wheelhouse, or whether you have reviewed it before, but there is an Argentine film that sounds similar called _Wild Tales._ It's an anthology of tales, some of which are _very_ dark, but some of which are also funny. It's in Spanish (of course), but it's a lot of fun if you're up to reading the subs or you speak the language. BTW, I also saw _In a Violent Nature_ and I really liked it. Even thought it is very much my cup of tea, though, I did find it a little tedious at the wrap-up. I get why that scene went on as long as it did, but it did go long after the point had been made. Still, I loved that one kill about halfway through (you know the one). I know it made some people physically ill, but I thought it was gloriously funny, in a weird sort of way. It made me laugh. This is probably the only forum in which I would admit that because I know this community gets it.
@@wingflanaganglad I’m not the only one who does this. Get so excited about a film that I end up recommending it to the very person who told me about it in the first place! 😂

I've only watched The Lobster and Poor Things, I didn't really enjoyed Lobster and although I liked Poor Things it was not one of my favorites, so I'll probably take a look on Alps before seeing this one to see if it'll be my kind of movie
I would want Yorgos to direct a live action little mermaid based on the original dark story with maybe Hunter Schaefer as the mermaid. If Emma Stone hasss to be there maybe she is the human queen or Ursula
The people who do not like the length of this movie do not know how to watch a movie. I enjoy long movies as long as they are engaging and interesting, which this film definitely was.
I actually loved this freaky lil thing; didn't mind the runtime, although it was a tad fatiguing I almost didn't want it to end and even wanted another story tbh!! For some reason I enjoyed living in this miserable world lol
I didn't read the synopsis and only saw the teaser trailer once and I think that was my mistake. I don't know why but I was expecting more of a comedy and finding out the tone was completely different just threw me off. Also these types of movies just go over my head. I never really felt I got the point of what was being told. I do agree the anthology made the run time feel less but this is one I don't think I'll ever revisit.
Sounds a little bit like Beau Is Afraid. Think I'll wait to rent this on blu-ray to watch each segment separately. By the way, that looks like a very old-timey theater like what I went to as a kid. What was with the dancing before the movie?
If you are interested in bleak and dark comedy you may want to give "Inside Number 9" a watch. It is a British anthology series that is running on streaming services, Amazon Prime and Britbox for example.
Omg I left the theater after the first storyline to go to the bathroom and was texting my partner idk wtf I am watching I should have read a description or seen a trailer.
Thanks for the review, Emma. I've seen a couple of Yorgos' films, but like Cronenberg, they are not to my taste. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the film, which means Yorgos is still at the top of his game.
Have you seen the anthology series Room 104? It's not exactly it, but kinda fits the bill of an awkward cringe anthology. It's a Duplass joint, so not exactly the same vibe, and as with all anthologies, episodes are hit or miss, but some are really really great.
This was lite Yorgos for me. I felt the payoffs for the runtimes wasn't justified but I still enjoyed it just fine. I think the theme is right there in the title. There's 3 kinds of kindness, 1 shown in each short. And they're all sort of subversions on what kindness is.
@@spookyastronauts please why do you keep calling him only by the first name?? Thanks so much for what you do.
