One of the first big sponsorships on RUclips was also definitely Rhett and Link's T-shirt War 2 which was sponsored by McDonalds/Coke I think. Those guys had a bunch of huge sponsors weirdly early in RUclips's history compared to most channels
They discussed their early days in their recent Flashback with Smosh episode. That wasn't their first sponsored video, but it was the first that blew up that much They are definitely experts on the subject, having made a lot of early ads
talking about random shit, somehow making it engaging, and putting bullets and octane in the intro. this is why i love this channel. would definitely enjoy more of these alongside whatever larger projects you have.
So the idea of this video is it’s basically a variety show with topic suggested by viewers? Awesome! This would be cool to see as a semi-regular series, maybe in the breaks between long in-depth videos. As for another mini-topic for another of these videos: you mentioned “isekai” is now in the Oxford English Dictionary. How about a short history/catalogue of words that have entered the English vernacular from the anime community, especially as anime has become more popular over the years?
Ecchi being simultaneously F tier and S tier is so true! There’s a fine line between it being the most hilarious and entertaining shit…and then there are uninteresting shows that should have just been full hentai since there wasn’t any real effort put into the plot.
I think you'd create a pretty cool video on the topic of "Evolution of video game music" and on how it came to be so popular, who started to heavily invest in it, the meme culture surrounding it and why the heck recent gacha games especially go way harder with this than anyone reasonably should. In other worlds, how did we go from tetris peep peep poop to, well... Nier.
Every "I talk about *stuff*" youtuber should do a tier-list of genres like the one in this vid. Very quick to-the-point summary of the person in question's tastes.
My dude! Even when you're outta ideas, you still make some fire vids! Especially the history of RUclips sponsors was great. Would love a detailed deep dive into that Got a bit weary when it came to the anime genre concept because so many get these wrong but I was pleasantly surprised.
I am almost convinced that the whole reason Dr. Faust exists in DMC5 is because Itsuno got that Capcom mandate to put in microtransactions for Red Orbs, went "Alright, whatever you say lmao", and then came up with the idea for a Hat that lets you farm a million orbs within 2 minutes, so you'd never even feel the mildest temptation towards actually spending real money

I think this is in some way, the developers attempt at getting their way with the product. Some of those suggestions sound like people didn't do their "100 channels" homework! Also, I barely watch any anime to get most of the tier list, but for the anthology demographics you left out "seinen but in yellow." They adapt those into anime sometimes, I think.
Today, i learned: transformers Shattered glass is an isakai comic (some of the issues follows main earth cliffjumper as he goes through a world where the morality of all the characters you know are flipped)
You're really good at tracing the history behind components of media. What about the histories of specific anime and video game tropes? Or go the other way, and trace how "Journey to the West" and the like have bled into the modern media landscape.
Video Idea, now reinforced by your initial indifference to the glory and horror of the isekai genre: a complete history of the isekai genre in anime and what the evolution of its tropes says about us and our social norms, values, anxieties, etc., over the span of its existence.
The mecha genre is split up into several subgenres: Super Robo: The show is about how awesome humans are and how nothing can ever break their will. Real Robo: The show is about how awful humans are and how nothing can ever stop their thirst for war. Giant Robo: The show was made before April 4th 1979. Evangelion: It's just Neon Genesis Evangelion, also known as the only mecha show that your friends have watched, and also possibly not a mecha.
Lex, the demographics you listed are also definitely genres and both happen to be the same word because the genre took it's name from that target demographic. But because it's confusing people usually want to be more specific in naming a subgenre like battle shonen to avoid any vagueness. But they are definitely genres onto themselves. The closest analogy off the top of my head would be drum and bass shares it's name with and comes from the instruments, but you can have a band with just those 2 instruments and not be playing music that is the drum and bass genre. So you can use the word josei to refer to either the demographic or the genre. My dog can be named Spot and spots are a thing my dog named Spot can have.
So, while im a bit late to the video idea thing i still have a suggestion, but its not for a specific idea. just a method to find some. maybe. I'd look at your interests, hobbies, etc. and think about what questions you had when you first got into them, and see if any of those questions can turn into video ideas. example: i like computers, and one of the first things that i learned about was cores, and how CPU's are structured. So maybe a video on how we went from single to multi core processors could be cool. or maybe how programs evolved to use multiple cores rather than just one and how that affected the market.
was the skyrim background for the "single player microtransactions" section deliberate? the creation club is the peak of single player transactions; the integration in the world is awful (notably arcane accessories having all the spell tomes in a chest in a dungeon), many of the items ruin the progression of the game if you choose to use them (notably bow of shadows giving you permanent invisibility when you're sneaking that can be obtained at level 1) and the best part? bethesda didn't even make it, they outsourced it to other people before the "anniversary edition" came out, it would have cost hundreds to buy, and the fact they felt the need to put it up for £20 is hilarious, if a bit sad
almost every single anime demographic/troupe ranking felt like getting whiplash. i fr had no idea where to expect you to rank anything 😭😭 very refeshing tho ! “sci fi is like fantasy except with tech instead of magic and they over explain it………s tier”

example: i like computers, and one of the first things that i learned about was cores, and how CPU's are structured. So maybe a video on how we went from single to multi core processors could be cool. or maybe how programs evolved to use multiple cores rather than just one and how that affected the market.
was the skyrim background for the "single player microtransactions" section deliberate? the creation club is the peak of single player transactions; the integration in the world is awful (notably arcane accessories having all the spell tomes in a chest in a dungeon), many of the items ruin the progression of the game if you choose to use them (notably bow of shadows giving you permanent invisibility when you're sneaking that can be obtained at level 1) and the best part? bethesda didn't even make it, they outsourced it to other people
before the "anniversary edition" came out, it would have cost hundreds to buy, and the fact they felt the need to put it up for £20 is hilarious, if a bit sad
I like that you actually grew and then kept the beard. It looks good.
almost every single anime demographic/troupe ranking felt like getting whiplash. i fr had no idea where to expect you to rank anything 😭😭 very refeshing tho !
“sci fi is like fantasy except with tech instead of magic and they over explain it………s tier”
11:52 does that mean that A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court counts as an isekai too?
I swear the SMTIV soundtrack lives rent free in damn near every RUclips video and i love it.
DUDE! PLEASE do a follow-up to the Matrix Bad on Purpose video! Now that they're making a sequel it's like WTF are they thinking?!
you fucking psyched me out AGAIN right at the end w the raycon thing i literally automatically skipped ahead LOL
The RUclips sponsorship segment feels like it could have been its own video as is!
12:58 Love how you put this genre in F tier.
Nice video, I wasn't expecting to learn so much but I'm a changed man now!
I've got to look up that anime that transcended your tier list haha
12:55 there is an English equivalent called royal road with just as long titles. You basically but the description in the title to grab attention
Damn, shout out to John Green for responding lol. I actually remember that Carl's Jr. sponsorship too
You could probably correlate how ad blocker usage went up along with their and I think it would be another indicator, yeah?
Harem genre is like polygamy without actual realistic, grounded, dark and gritty parts and sides of polygamy.
Just keep making random anime videos with the wheel. I love those.
One of those first comments gave a great idea I hope you don't ignore. Same comment that said to use comments for ideas had the idea of talking about music licensing in games (which would cover the rise and fall of music games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band). PLEASE DO THAT
i found you one video ago, your matrix commentary, i dont think you have lost any of your great qualities.
