I just can’t find more explanation into the downsides of it or risks. I know you’ll be in the dmz zone of the internet but can’t find a video explaining how you will actually be exposed to malicious attacks.
Just a sidenote since I work at tech support in my local ISP.. after following these great instructions on how to get Nat Type 1.. if you do all these steps and still have Nat Type 3 you have to call your tech support of your ISP and you can request disabling private IP adress or turning the CGNat off. After that you can check your Nat Type and if It's type 2 then you are good to go with these instructions in order to get type 1.

I like your videos but I don't think nat type 1 is safe. Its a lot easier to be hacked on ps4 if you bypass the firewall. So I wouldn't recommend leaving these settings on for extended periods of time. You can always set a static ip for your consol and open specific ports for the game you're playing. Overall I really like your channel! Its straightforward informative content and you're doing an awesome job 😀

I've tried everything..dmz, port forwarding, bridged modem' ECT. Still nat type 3. Ive been trying for a few years, watched countless videos and read many articles, tried all their suggestions, bought a new router, tried all the setting on that, still nat type 3. Called me ISP, they said it wasnt on their end and nothing they can do.. At this point Im just accepting its going to be may type 3
Quickest way to grab the gateway ip is open command prompt in windows and type IPCONFIG and return, it will list all your connections on network usually the gateway ip is listed at bottom of the ip v4 stack
What are you all talking about ??? Your Nat type has nothing to do with your internet connection being good or bad as if it's a podium place. Nat 1 = directly plugged into a modem (1 IP address) Nat 2 = plugged into a modem/router (many IP addresses 192.168.....) Nat 3 = restricted (network problem) I made John Glasscock aware of this yrs ago as the video description was misleading.
I've heard other people having this issue too. Worst case if you can't get the settings to budge to NAT Type 1 is to contact your ISP and ask them how to open the NAT for your PlayStation

Hey John! I followed your steps and enabled DMZ for my PS4's IP address but when I test my connection, Im still showing NAT type 2. I did add port information to my PS4's IP prior, would that prevent the NAT type from changing?

This sounds like it has its drawbacks. Terms like 'public' and 'open gateway' make it seem vulnerable.
I read on Google that says that I might fix disconnection problems but it should never be put in NAT type 1, because of security reasons.
For everyone who doesn't know, you have type 2 because your IP address is a private one and doing this changes your IP to a public one.
So having a NAT1 is bad ?
