- In this video, I share step-by-step how to adjust the MTU settings when connecting your PS4 to your internet router or LAN connection online. Along the way I explain if certain MTU settings are better than others and how you can dial in and test the best number that works for you. Stick around because I also share one cool trick I discovered with a certain MTU setting that allowed me to boost my productivity in GTA Online, and could very well work in other games too!

Also loved the GTA tip. We used to just bounce around until we got a solo but they are so hard to get now, have regularly bounced for over an hour and still no solo. Your trick was very helpful indeed.

And it’s just you gotta stay there and spend almost 2 or 1 hours to get a solo idk why but it works for me I’ve gotten 9 solos some far this month

If you go to low in some games you will be by yourself in games like gta this works, personally I use 1473 for my mtu and I normally get 9 with dps and im getting 13 with

I allways go down to 800 or 750 to be playing alone in Solo lobbies since they have patch the other metode with the NAT glitch

I’m currently using the ps5 and none of y’all may not know the answer to this but I’m still having trouble finding my optimum mtu because there is no question or statement that pops up saying my packets can’t be fragmented which makes it harder for me to decide what mtu I should use and how far down I should go because what I do is I start a 1500 and go down 10 each time but I’m still confused on how far down I should even go.or if I should change this setting on my ps5 at all so anyone that has the ps5 with the feedback to answer this question let me know it would be greatly appreciated

Bruh it works and helps btw 800 mtu works on red dead online btw ppl won't join you but you can't join them your friends can and sometimes ppl can join you is the best to do your stuff in peace it helps alot btw i changed my mtu now to 1400 and wifi is going crazy 15 mbs im used 10 i guess mtu can do little changes

Hi! I had a question and I would really appreciate if you answered. I’m in india and I have a ps4. What dns and mtu would you recommend? My ping is about 60 In fortnite and I would like to get that down! Great vid btw!
Thank you Rishi! I would adjust each one separately, so keep MTU at 1500 and adjust dns to Google or CloudFlare first. If the DNS helps, then start adjusting the MTU a few steps lower (around 1400, 1300, 1200, etc.) and see if that boosts the improvement over the new DNS

The max on a router is 1500 as well you can do a ping check to see if your MTU size is correct and if it’s not you can change it your router gotta check on a PC is DoS, I got 100mbps connection 1500 is fine for me, I sped mine up by buying a way better router, to change it nat type 1 you gotta make you PS the DMZ port

Im rly surprised I haven't seen any posts from anyone about how opening up ports or changing NAT Types can cause critical failures n possibility of vulnerabilities to attacks much easier, i would advise doing a 20 min video explaining the theory behind what your having many gamers to do. Do your own research!!!

I can’t go over 1500
MTU max transmission units the amount of bytes it can deliver in packets to each end device on the connected server through proxies higher the more data you can send to lessen lag lower less packets to other end devices hence solo lobbies your connection self terminates others connections without sacrificing the server connection due to it only being sending that is retarded not the connection

It would take a long time to join and it would probably be laggy. Possibly you wouldn't be able to join

my modem max is 1492 I figured through ping commands, but I lowered it to 1472, my ping is better and I no longer have random disconnects when connected through WIFI

I play with hotspot too and I'm having exactly the same problem on rdo man...and whenever I try to join a friend session or start a matchmaking I always get disconnected. Did you find a solution?

Will this fix IP fragmentation problems? My internet speed is really fast but I get the IP fragmentation message
It might! Try doing small adjustments on this and see if that helps with the fragmentation. If it doesn't you can always change it back to the default
Iiron segev has a great vid on this. He is thetechieguy and explains how to monitor the fragmentation issue by using ping and dropping the mute size by 10 at a time until you see a ping ip that does not say fragmented. Good luck 👍

Hey, I have a question, I changed the MTU settings on my ps4 pro to try and get better speeds. Before I did the change, I experienced zero issues and it worked great. Ever since the change my internet connection on the ps4 pro keeps disconnecting every 30 minutes to an hour. Any idea on how to fix this?

Change the MTU settings back to before the problem occurred.
I had that issue where my connection completely disconnected after, what felt like, every other game. Ever since I moved to LAN cable connection I haven’t had that happen once for a whole year.

It is for me definitely! With any setting change you want to test it compared to the default setting you came from and see whether it helped to further improve your online connection.

MTU settings good for one thing and that's kicking everyone out of a public lobby on GTAV and RDR2
My internet is slow because it's on 2.4ghz if I put it on 5 GHz or auto it will like freeze in the middle of the game
2.4 ghz is if your router is far from you 5ghz is if your router is close to you

Something weird with my wifi or ps4 : like in the afternoon when i test my internet the download speed never went above 60mbps. But in the morning my the speed never went down below 130mbps. (My internet speed i pay for is 200mbps)
