YES!!!!! Another video. Last night I opened my closet door and just stared at the shelf with all my models and smiled. I drive a city bus I listened to your videos to help keep me calm thank you have a great day
I do really like this effect. I'll be adding this to my arsenal now I've picked up some of those brushes. Thank you for showing me another use for them.
I appreciate that! That really makes me feel good - knowing that the work I do is helpful to fellow modelers! Thanks so much for your continued support of my work, and as always, thank you for watching and commenting! Happy day to you John!
As always a big thank you Jon! I wish i had a tutorial like this almost 1 year ago. But i did the miniature in another way but this is way much simple! Thank you 🙏
I personally use a similar technique, but I find using a flat coat of metal actually looks better than the speckled one. It's something I want to play a little more around with though, I think experimenting with different washes or maybe even shades could be fun. IMO the main goal is to take the clean metalic model and use different coloured pigments to take away the metallic sheen which you don't see in most weathered metal. Thanks for the vid tho jon, these are always a pleasure to watch and always give me new ideas and inspiration
Looks great Jon, I am curious to see where you are going to take this paintjob in the coming weeks. Also makes me want to paint some vehicles in stead of minis.
Awesome video! It's actually eerie how similar our process is for painting distressed metals. I use Black Templar contrast instead of Black Ink and also stipple some Typhus Corrosion for some weathered texturing. Having said that, I'm a little less refined in my application! Might need to practice a bit more xD
Thanks so much for your kind words! There are a lot of ways to make it work! Sounds like you've got a good line on it. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Jon! Another awesome video! One thing I do miss from my COVID leave from work, was watching these within minutes of their drop! I used to see all the new release updates on the Facebook, but it seems you left the platform? I hope all is well, Jon. Keep ‘em coming!
Yeah, I decided to leave Facebook, though not for hobby related reasons. It just got to be a problem for me, just too much of a time killer and a frustration. After trying for a few months to just "let it go", I finally realized I had to get off the platform. I've been much happier and productive since doing so - far more than I would have realized! I do post notices on Instagram (@jonbius), and of course on Patreon. Thank you so much for your kind words, and for watching my work. I am quite grateful for it. Happy day to you friend!
Do you feel like the type of sponge makes a difference? I am getting ready to chip a tank and then some Star wars models. Never done it before. If so where should I get them?
Actually, yes - I really do! The foam I use is from shipments of Harry and David pears and apples we get occasionally. :) It has a "tight" pattern. Not hard, per se, but a very fine, small pattern. Much finer than say a kitchen sponge. We get a shipment of apples/pears as a gift every Christmas, and I have saved the packing foam for years. Other stuff works, but I've not found a foam that I like as well as this stuff. (Plus I get to eat tasty apples and pears!) Thanks for watching and commenting!
RUclips has pretty much stopped putting your videos in my suggestion box even though i leave a comment for the algorithm EVERY week. Come on Susan. She only has one job
Hey Jon if you sell the final model make sure to let us know! Nice video - next time you forget the mic you should dub it but in a Darth Vader or maybe the Chipmunks? voice😂

Good information! Experimentation is the key. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Very interesting technique Jon, I can see using that for detailing storage tanks and metal structures in my n-scale model railroad hobby.
It really does have extensive cross-genre application. Have fun with it - and thanks for watching and commenting!
Enjoyed this. I might try this on another of my Project Obsolete mechas.
Thanks so much! I think it would work quite well for those.

It will go up on Ebay once the series is complete. And the voice over idea is priceless!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Yea! Stompy robots. I have a 1/144 30MM Bandai kit that I am going to give your technique a try on. Thanks Jon.
That would work great. Have fun with it! Thanks for watching and commenting!
