Your long form videos like this are so helpful. If I ever need to paint a large mech or tank model I can come here and it covers all the techniques I should use in one video and shows how to put them together. I've seen lots of videos on shading, washes and TMM but putting it all together in the right order can sometimes be overwhelming and confusing. This provides a step-by-step of when to use what. So great!
thanks! sharing is actually the best way to support the channel, because it shows RUclips that this video is worth showing it to others and they will do the same ;)
Thank you! Would you take a minute please and type out what you consider to be the new style/the difference to the other vkdeos? Always trying to inprove and hearing this will probably help me! Thanks in any case!
Thanks very much! I'm just about to paint a redemptor dreadnought. This extremely helpful because I wasn't sure how to paint the large flat panels without just painting them a base colour and edge highlighting. Much appreciated!
@@andrewdaxter318 sure - this way of miniature painting isnt really very "realistic" to begin with, so we might as well increase contrast and make it "interesting" to look at in any way possible. the panels above are the brightest and the edge is very bright too, so i am putting the darkest part next to the brightest parts. this increases the contrast and makes it more interesting.
using a gloss varnish before applying the decals give them a smooth surface to spread out on. then use the micro set/sol combo to apply the decal. they will shrivel up a bunch as the solution works but by the time they are dry they will completely flatten back out and will get into all the surrounding details. then apply a matte varnish to get the desired finish and they will look like they are painted on. it's quite amazing and i have been using this technique for years on scale models.
I found it helpful to take a permanent marker, like a Sharpie, and mark Microset with a 1 on the cap, and 2 on Microsol, as many modelers who are unfamiliar with the products will assume that Microsol is first (since Sol usually means Solvent, to loosen up things) and Microset is second (since Set "obviously" means to settle the decals down). I found an experienced modeler on RUclips who had been doing it backwards for YEARS, since he didn't read the instructions on the bottles because the stores usually put price stickers on that area, and even when they don't, the tiny blue and red letters are extremely difficult to read.
Sorry if this has already been covered, I know yourself and Squid add Citidal paints into better Droppers. How do you do this without lossing loads of paint?
That looks amazing. I am having a go at this model at the moment with mainly contrast paints as I just got back into the hobby. Love the edge highlighting work you did. It's given me some ideas of how to continue once the base coats are done

Out of interest how come you went for Heavy Metal paint on the metal bits rather than one of the Vallejo Metal Colour paints I thought you liked? Do the Metal Colours not look as good on large surfaces?
Is there a specific reason why most painters highlight the main armor prior to painting the second largest part (metal parts in this case)? I feel like I always mess up during filling in of 2nd color so I wait with edge highlight until every main color are painted and shaded. Am I missing out on something big? :O
